Square Enix telling us all to spoil DT story for ourselves is totally unacceptable.

Dare I say it solves your issue, I'm a Partnered streamer on twitch in the ffxiv category and I stream in the golden saucer the first 2-3 hours of my stream(ALWAYS) just chatting and looking at glamour in towns. Whether its me or not there are creators who actually create content for the game beyond running MSQ down mid. If your afraid of spoilers, I've solved your specific issue with 2 rounds of sitting in my stream and never needing to watch it again. If you're afraid of other people being spoiled, that's their own Situation and making sure someone else has the "Best Possible Experience" is not necessary, Worry about yourself and not other peoples experiences, they have their own voice and this seems to not be a hotly contended problem. Getting more eyes on ffxiv content especially at the beginning of dawntrail is only a benefit for the game at the end of the day, there is zero problem with what they're doing and if you don't like it then just don't participate.

My plan is to set a stream up to play while I sleep then mute the tab. Just close the tab when I get up, bam - spoiler free.

Personally, I'm so anti-Twitch and anti-streaming that I don't think there are any rewards that could get me to watch "content creators" (*rolls eyes*) do anything. BUT, for those who are into streaming or at least want the rewards, another option if you're concerned about things like muting tabs not "counting" is to just turn the volume on your speakers down...if I was going to do this, I'd just find a time in my day when I wouldn't be playing, load up a stream, turn my speakers off, and then go do some work, watch some TV, read a book, whatever, and just pop back periodically and scroll or something to remain "active." It's surprisingly easy to not actually look at what's happening on the screen while doing that.

At least you admit that the problem is you not liking content creators which I'm pretty sure the majority of the people complaining about these types of events actually want to say but know they wont get any traction behind their grievances and reddit threads.

I personally just use Windows sound mixer to turn the volume down on the stream and leave it running in the background while I play the game. I turn it back up when I'm done. I do this all the time when playing Goose Goose Duck with my friends who also stream to avoid stream sniping but also help them get more viewers by boosting their viewer count.

Pretty sure you can put on the stream and mute it.

How are they claiming you cannot do this?

Unless Twitch had some major update I do not believe Twitch can tell if you muted it or not. I can mute their ads and they don't notice.

You can also just not participate since the mount is the same one from the butterfinger campaign and 10 aetheryte tickets is one weekly mark's worth.

Its more than likely with promotions like this that a few channels will just leave the game running and do nothing just so people can farm the drops.

I'm not really a Twitch user but I have gotten drops just by opening a window and leaving everything on mute while doing something else, I don't think this will be any different.

this is what i did with other multiplayer games that do the twitch rewards drop. hop on the stream and just mute the stuff and go about my day XD

Yeah, you mute tab (or site) rather than the stream itself.

"Don't you guys have phones?" - finally a good quote from Blizzard. Start a stream on mobile, almost mute it or put it in another rooms, use headphones for your game and get that loot.
