Flavor, style, impact.

It makes it feel better to press and unique compared to every other melee and that's why people enjoy it. It doesn't need to be magical for it to have a cast time, I find that to be incredibly restrictive.

Without the cast time it just feels like any ordinary GCD, with the cast time it feels like something unique that's a part of what makes Samurai what it is. I feel like Tsubame Gaeshi would lose its luster as well, as that is the instant cast and it feels better since the only method of doing so is casting an iaijutsu to begin with.

a reasonable reply ty, however i feel we will just have to agree to disagree i still feel that Samurai is better off with a different form of expressing their power without the need for still casting in one place. the still casting thing already belongs to many jobs already classified as "casting" and Magical Ranged and there is really no need to dispute them having a cast bar because thats how it has always been in works of fiction for mages,wizards, sorcerers and so on.

but to me my definition of a Samurai in specific has always been a swordsman with incredible skill and incredible efficiency with the blade thats what i've come to know and its what i grew up with. don't get me wrong there are cool character with magically imbued blades or massive amounts of stored up energy to represent their power but there are equally exciting character's who are just as cool who don't have any charge ups or massive power releases as well character's who are just extremely skilled at their craft and do not need to charge up or harness anything.

When you examine something in the overworld for MSQ and it fills up a castbar are you casting a spell?

??? i am very confused by your query here or insinuation we are discussing job design not quest design, what you're referring to is a progress meter when we're asked to complete such tasks the meter fills up to signify our character in a roleplay sense has finished performing a task or an action.

if you were equating that to what's on samurai then that just makes it sound even more ridiculous why its on samurai lol if you had a blade especially an extremely strong blade that can cut thru armor or wood you're not gunna just hold it in place while actively in combat that would just be nonesense XD you're gunna swing it to attack your attacker or to defend yourself from them etc

So if the cast bar was renamed a charge bar or something would that fix the problem?

a renaming won't solve my grip with it no lol but if they make it to where the "cast" "charge" whatever you call it is insignificant to how the job plays or they make it in a way to where its no longer dependent on standing still in one location then i will compromise

even better it would be great if like reapers spell it can be casted outside combat for an instant cast which can then be saved up for when you enter combat like lets say iajutsu action can be pressed outside of combat to store up one charge of the first iajutsu to be used wether thats higanbana or tenka goken or midare setsugekka etc.

How? SAM is pretty much exactly the same except now you can't use tsubame gaeshi when you want, it's baked into Meikyo Shisui. And all of that have been known since the media tour.

in regards to this thread i made is more so what i referring too but i do share in your grievance with the meikyo shisui change.. its odd to say they least.

but to give you some context if you hadn't read thru all these pages here: some of us made some suggestions on how to make the feel of samurai casting function differently and feel more rewarding so what they've done here for this first round of job adjustments is raised potencies for iajutsu abilities and they added a minor but still much appreciated buff to the shifu and oka cast reductions which effect not just weapon skills and actions but now also the spells themselves from iajutsu :D

I mean, I guess it's cool to have more iaijutsu animations but mechanically it all function basically the same. Also Fuka haste effect was already 13% so no changes there.
I get why they tied tsubame gaeshi to meikyo shisui since now there's no point to not use the gaeshi on the stronger version of the iaijutsus triggered by meikyo but my main grievance with that is no more higanbana gaeshi for those few times where there's two bosses on the arena.
Otherwise it's still pretty much the exact same gameplay. Just more flashy iaijutsu after Meikyo Shisui, Weaving Zanshin instead of Senei between Ogi namikiri and Namikiri Kaeshi and every minute replacing a Shinten with Senei.
All of it is mostly cosmetic with bigger damage numbers.

SAM is still the third caster of the BLM, RDM and SAM. Maybe PIC will be cast heavy too depends on how often we will be using those oGCDs.

i see how disappointing :/ well guess my main point will remain standing then the cast bars need more changing up! or we need better compensation and reward for being stuck in place for an amount of time. (bigger damage pool for iaijutsu or a parry/deflect buff)

Poster who at the slightest pushback starts screeching about "weebs" aghast people don't respond with kindness, news at 11.

all drama aside i will look forward to samurai either by the end of dawntrail's life or the beginning of 8.0 since they did say moving forward and at 8.0 they'll be pushing job flavor and identity to the front some more over balancing and the like to make everything play the same.
