Honestly, it's kind of a microcosm of SE's problem with FF. The series has been plagued for a long time with devs who are clearly tired of making FF games, but ever since SE stopped seriously investing in new IPs after the 90s, have little outlet except either leaving the company or just putting weird shit in FF games.
I get the same kind of vibe from how they are starting to treat the jobs in FF14. They don't want to design these jobs anymore. You can see it in gameplay, and now it's really creeping in to aesthetic too, going wildly off-road with things like angel Jesus scholars and mecha-bahamuts.
They really should hire new people in the job design team, for everyone's sake. You ironically sometimes need fresh perspectives to stay on track.
WHM's divine caress (New lvl 100 shield skill combo after temperance's) animation has glowing angelic feathers falling down under pillars of light.
I don't know about the "angel theme is clearly a sch thing".
Scholar has MARINE SOUL.
As a military tactician, this white robe suits WHM as well.
And the small stiff wing looks like a cheap fashion item.
Making an on/off text command for the appearance transformation is the solution, I think.
Seraphism is disgusting and it honestly baffles me that they’d have thought it acceptable in any way.
Literally 95% of FFXIV is purely aesthetics. Dressing your character up in gear you like, using the job you like the look of most (not like there’s enough variations in gameplay for that to matter lol), with all your flashy fireworks abilities.
They created a skill that literally overwrites the entirety of these aesthetics…and replaces it them with the aesthetics of another job .
The biggest slap in the face? The Seraphism outfit doesn’t even account for head display settings . You can have helmet display completely turned off, but if you use Seraphism well, you will take your ugly ass veil and you will LIKE it
Honestly, I don’t say this lightly, but whoever thought this was a good idea should maybe be encourage to like, retire early.
Literally the only good thing about Seraphism is that Manifestation and Accession have cool animations. But when it’s a hideous Angel monstrosity that replaces my character doing the animations, suddenly any enjoyment I may have had is gone. SE literally won’t even let us enjoy the game’s aesthetics anymore. And I mean, what else are we going to enjoy? The gameplay? lol
I didn't like it when they previewed it and now that I've seen it in game, I still do not like it. Chiming in to either change it or let us toggle it off. Please.
Just want to chime in and voice my opinion that I would also like the ability to opt out of the outfit change.

I hate how it gets rid of my ears and tail. Same with other racial characteristics. I can still see my face poking out from underneath the veil, so why are my ears and tail missing?
If we are the fairy healer, why do we transform into an angel? Can't we at least transform into Titania?

I've been whining about this ability since the expansion came out. Who the fudge at square thinks scholar was an angel healer waifu class and not a debuffing shielding healer is so out of touch with what a lot of players liked about the job. I should have know when scholar got its dots gutted in shadowbringers in exchange for seraph that it was all down hill from there. They think all healer players are uwu cuties who play in pink bunny slippers all day and only want new healing sparkles instead of content that requires us to use heals or cool dps combos. I get so mad every time I think of my history with the job post shadowbringers. This is the most ruined job in the entire game for me. At least Seraphism felt good mechanically but the visuals are disgusting like solar bahamuts ugly chandelier looking ahh.
FFXIV devs: ‘let’s make character customisation and aesthetics/cosmetics one of the central focus points of the game to the point we’ll charge real money for outfits’
Also FFXIV devs: ‘let’s make an ability that completely overwrites the users entire visual / aesthetic identity and replace it with generic slop’
FFXIV: the only MMO you can spend real money on a modern day virtual outfit…that is instantly deleted against your will if you make the grave mistake of *checks notes* playing Scholar. Probably
Like, someone make it make sense. Why have we had to put up with this for so long? They genuinely want to tell scholars ‘we hate you’ with their chests at this point
Scholar has so many themes. It has butterflies, fairies, carbuncle, angels, poison, technology flavored animations for Chain Strat and Art of War, fire themes for Broil, literary notes like tearing pages out of your book for Recitation, and powerful speech names on most of the abilities. It's an Orator, Green Mage, Summoner, Holy Priest, Battle Tactician, Tech Enthusiast... Like I really just want them to pick a lane and flesh it out. I want the fairy to stay a fairy and use butterfly themed magic while I stay a battle tactician that used poison and techno barriers and magic. I would love to get the angels out the class all together and use spells that make more sense for a more concentrated theme. Why are butterflies coming out of Expedient? Why does our Limit Break 3 show Seraph raising the party but when we do a single target revive the fairy doesn't care. The theming is so chaotic and weird and the spell animations make zero sense. Why does Chain Strat pull out digital screens? I have been a Scholar main since ARR but I really wish that Identity was more concrete and less haphazard with every new skill they add. Seraphism is just the latest wtf moment.
Seraphism is mechanically so good but the aesthetic is awful
Simplest solution to this, is to just create a new action, that is learned at the same time as Seraphism, that has the same effect, CD, everything as Seraphism, and shares a CD with Seraphism. That way, the players that DO like Seraphism's VFX can still have it, and people who don't, have a different action with a different VFX that they can choose to use

Its such a weird design choice and they're never gonna fix it without removing the cool gameplay elements first. Clown Enix has a track record of being genies who do what we ask in the worst or most obtuse way possible.
