No wonder all the male Hrothgar players are gay. It was nice of square to think of them :D
We have enough "human with Halloween animal ears on" races already.
It's definitely nice to have some actual beast-like races available. As much as I have my qualms with how the game has changed since its release, Guild Wars 2 did such a good job with the Charr. They barely have any human traits at all and even run on all-fours. I miss that. It would be cool to have something like that in this game, but I understand why it can't.
Well, they backed themselves in a corner by making Mithra here just Josie and the Pussycats and calling it miqo'te.
XI Mithra had a very feminine look, if they had been more true to the origin race, we'd have a very feminine cat race. But they had already basically made humes with tails, so the only way we were getting a cat race is if they brought in Ronso, and at least this time they were pretty true to the original design. I think they did a decent job with both them and the Galka. No, they aren't your standard fare anime waif twirling her hair on one hand and holding a lolipop in the other, but they are very atmosphere appropriate, I think.
Agreed. We have no shortage of options if you want a character that looks super feminine. And I mean, people do get face 4 if they want a female hrothgar with more human features. In WoW I primarily play a female mag'har orc, but I play a ton of different races on the horde side, which are well, they're mostly either beastial or big and tough looking. I have a ton of options to make drastically different looking characters in that game. Whereas in FF14 I get mostly humans that are tall, short, or have animal ears to look different. It's nice to have at least one non human race.
From an actual artistic stand point the way they went about the female hrothgar faces was the better option. Typically in animated movies or games you'll see male animal characters looking like a normal animal, but then they'll make the females really weird looking with eyelashes, makeup, etc. which looks really silly. This was actually an issue with female worgen when they first came out back in Cataclysm. Everyone dunked on Blizzard for it because males were these big ferocious wolves and females looked like they came from an old Dreamworks movie. This is what I expected would happen with female hrothgar but I was pleasantly surprised. Most of them except face 4 just look like cats and that's what most people were asking for.
I'm not sure what the OP is on about. Looks plenty feminine to me.

Anyways, found this thread when looking to see if there was a thread about the post regarding a benchmark update and boy some of the replies are sooo condescending(isn't it funny how those posts are just from one person, too?)Anybuns, I think the hrothgar females look very cute and definitely feminine and nothing needs to be changed except giving that cute ponytail hairstyle from face 4 to all of the faces

Every time i see a hrothgal's big arms and broad shoulders it feels as though a white mage cast regen on me.
Recognizing that I don't have to like every race that gets added if there are people who want to play as them, I'm still gonna say my piece.
The female hrothgar look way better in their promotional art than the models...
The models are uncanny nightmare fuel.
To be fair, everyone looks better in their promotional art material. If anything, they just need wider hips, just a little bit, maybe.
Oh, Mao gonna has to gets more brushes! Is gonna be lots Fuzzy Cats in DT for Mao to do the brushings!
Gotta say the tiger links are too funny but in all seriousness this game isn't african lion safari and the female hrothgar should have at least one option that is very feminine leaning. I would like to add that if such option existed it would also be the most chosen IMHO.
I feel the female Hrothgar I quickly put together looks nice and feminine. Obviously it's all rather subjective but. *shrug*

Pretty sure we call those Miqo'te :p
In all seriousness though, we really do deserve a race where the female versions aren't just regular women with animal ears or are a whopping two feet smaller at their maximum height than the males are. It's nice to have this more beastial leaning one. It really wouldn't make sense for the male Hrothgar to be beastly looking while the female Hrothgar are a Miqo'te but taller. It's nice to have these beefy, big cat looking girls.
I actually think the f!Hroths look plenty feminine, and actually would even be okay with them being a bit more bestial / hunched / bulky than they are. When it comes to variety of options, Lalas are the only race that don't have an insurmountable height/build difference between the male/female models--all of the other races have some degree of unmistakable dimorphism, several of them extremely pronounced. It's nice to have variety to choose from, and I'm happy that the differences between the male and female Hroths aren't more extreme than they are.
I think it's fine that some of the f!Hroth faces are quite feminine/dainty in comparison to the male models, but I like that they are (mostly) still decidedly leonine. And while there are lots of other options in the game to play *very* traditionally feminine looking characters, I enjoy having options for female characters that are broader, stronger, bigger, and tougher in appearance.
I'm sure I won't be arguing anyone into feeling differently about it than they do, but I just figured I'd chime in and lend my support to the big buff f!Hroth design.
The keyword here is "subjective", some people will like it, some people won't. Ultimately, the current iteration of female Hrothgar is what SE envisioned, and it's what's gonna stay going forward. If some don't like it, it's perfectly valid opinion, and there's plenty of other races to choose from. I just disagree with person A bashing on person B for liking it, it's a childish behavior at best.
some people truly want this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

- ok ok, you are valid too, but consider the number of options you have for human-like, petite, pretty female characters
and the number of options the other side has
see the difference now?
I'd say the options are representative of the demand. As far as females go. I wouldn't make it sound like they don't exist, or even that they are underrepresented. Even without female Hrothgar, this isn't true as both Highlander and Roe females are anything but danty princesses. With female Hrothgar, this brings the ratio of petite/cute females to burly less feminine females to 5:3 if we are to also include the Elezen and exclude Lalafell. If you rounded up 10 random gamers both male and female and asked them if they prefer females like Eve from Stellar Blade, or she-beasts, I think getting at least two to three in favor for the latter option is pretty feasible. But let's be real, most would choose Eve.
I often ponder how many among the playerbase would love a true dwarf race. All they have are Lalafell, which are very childlike. There are a lot of Gimli and Willow fans out there who have ZERO options in FFXIV.
They phoned it in with female Hrothgar. They took the fem Roe body, made a stance alteration and slapped on the fur, tail and cat head. Then, like the males, locked each face to only two racial hairstyles with alternate versions that change one minor aspect such as an extra strand of hair.
Ngl I'd love a LoTR/WoW style dwarf, or even something like gnomes/halflings from DnD. Vox Machina nailed it with characters that are short but still very clearly adults

But, it's far more likely we'd end up with something like ...the Elin
https://oyster.ignimgs.com/mediawiki.../c/c4/Elin.png
Unfortunately since the first already has "dwarves" we're likely not going to see them in the game (yeah yeah it could be handwaved by just naming swaps but I don't see it)
Plus, with the niche that we're missing it should be a little (demi)beast race.
For humans & (demi)beasts we've got:
The average and basic: Hyur/Miqo'te
The elegant, and long of leg/ear: Elezen/viera
The big and bulky: Roegadyn/Hrothgar
The small and spritely: Lalafell/???
I would've said hummingway would've fit there, but then lopporits happened~
Au ra are outliers adn should not be counted.
(maybe since their designs are supposed to be closer to voidsent/tieflings than dragons, maybe give them a counterpart that's more sineater/aasimar inspired? With a reversed dramatic sexual dimorphism? Have the females look like that one sineater that [REDACTED] that one npc in THAT scene, and then have the males resemble male miqo'te/viera with wings for ears? Could take feather design from pheonixes so they can get confused for another animal too :])
I remember hearing a story about the Elin, how the Japanese fans asked for a school swimsuit and the devs were like 'uh..really?' and they made it, and it sold like hotcakes.

Lalafells already look quite a bit like the Elin. And there absolutely are freaks who are into them in all the wrong ways. I have stumbled upon that kind of content when searching something completely different a few times before and it left me deeply disturbed. And that's not even getting into all the thirst for Alisae...
Better take a closer look at it. It's not the female Roe body. It's the female Highlander body scaled up in size.
I think that plus the racial attire minimizing the appearance of the breast size is what's making some players refer to as a second male Hrothgar. If we took the time to view it in armor that's a little more friendly to female curves, there would be less concern.
There are enough freaks in this world that just about everything have someone into them in all the wrong ways.
For people who've been playing the game for a decade, Alisaie should be an adult by now. This weird time bubble/"everything is done in a single year" is awkward.
Yeah but like, it was omnipresent in Tera. You could be off in some zone with 20 people in it, glance over at at your muted global chat channels out of morbid curiosity, and still find people being weird about elins in the public channels. I've seen that happen here on occasion but like.... 3 times total in 10 years as opposed to near daily in Tera.
