But the new job isn't even original.

I think almost everyone predicted a melee scouting job way back in like 2021, but as soon as I saw Derplander on the ship I thought "yeah ok, Assassin's Creed Black Flag?"... I never thought it'd be so spot on.
I mean I'm not against it, but it's kinda painfully obvious what this job is attempting to emulate.
I wish it had been a little bit less...generic? I guess is the word. Or more theme than "generic assassin that's not ninja".
Like he said though, this is what a lot of people have been asking for. I remember many people over the years being kind of disappointed when the more grounded Rogue class eventually changes into Ninja rather than something like Thief.
Viper looks flashier than what you'd imagine a Thief would be, but it's still a lot closer to what some people were asking for rather than only being pigeonholed into the sort of Ninja mysticism if you want to play a dual wielding blade job.
I will definitely be playing this. It's straight up Zidane and I can't not play a Zidane-inspired class.
That's exactly what it is. I remember in the lead up to Sage's reveal, the fanbase (Here, reddit, other forums, half my FC.) had all convinced themselves the healer was going to be Chemist. A potion chucking healer with a plague doctor style artifact gear. And when I say 'convinced themselves' I mean, actively spreading misinformation that yoshi-p had basically come out and vocally confirmed it'll be Chemist. And if you dared to suggest it was going to be something other then Chemist, you got shouted at, told you were on copium, all the usual jazz.
Then Sage got revealed. And all those people went DEAD. SILENT. Then slowly came out of the woodwork huffing the highest grade copium. "Oh, this is just a modernization of Chemist." "Ah, it's basically Chemist." "Just magitek Chemist." while others were basically doing what a lot of folks here are.
I am curious about the "ancient hunters" spirits idea. That seems to be connected to the new region, especially with the snake motif, but the aesthetics of the job gear and weapons don't seem to fit either the region OR the idea of hunting. I wonder how they're going to thematically connect them.
This is probably really silly, but it came to mind and I couldn't help myself. Not a theory, just a silly.

Like why do some of you all still play even? There are so many ppl on here, that all they do is complain and say how bad the game is or has become. If you hate it or disappointed that much, find a new game. Does the name Viper seem overly simplistic? yes. Is the reveal trailer amazing? No. But then none of the previous ones have been all that exciting. Is any job just horrible and no fun to play? No, they are all enjoyable to some extent. So how about we wait till we actually play the job or see more than 60 secs of it before passing judgement.
Thank Halone it's not Corsair. I was accepting of it at first, but I'm glad to get this instead. Been clamoring for a real dual sword DPS, sword on the back and fast paced.
Funny that the TMNT shirt was just Leonardo as the hint, though he could of wore a shirt with a viper on it.
looks interesting but like how other have mentioned seems stiff.
It looks clean. Now the cons:
- Feels too much like reaper. Maybe how it plays will change this but it gave me major reaper vibes.
- They can call a self buff just because? Seriously? I find that so disappointing given the location. I assumed it would have something to do with the location but it's a generic blue aura because soul crystal uhh...it feels like reaper but without the voidsent lore.
It really does feel like an odd choice for the second scouting job to be another dual-sword-wielding job, especially when ninja's daggers have gotten so big that there's little apparent difference except for stance.
Talking of stance, it seems oddly stiff. I don't know if it's still a work in progress but it feels off. I think it might have worked better with the dual blade as their default stance and then sometimes split it into separate blades for attacks. They could still stow it as two blades and then assemble it with the unsheathe animation.
It also seems odd that it's described as a Turali discipline and yet the job gear is very pirate-looking.
Beyond that, I'm mostly withholding judgement until we actually see it in the game.
*inserted Randy Orton meme*
I think it looks pretty cool. I just hope it won't just be a kind of ninja/reaper mix or idk. I hope it has it's own identity.
I was appalled at the fact that the catboy in the trailer had no ears and was bald, wtf was up with that lmao
worst case scenario the PvP version will still be different at least. I don't know if I'm still high from shiny toy syndrome or what but honestly? so long as it's not a Reaper clone then it gets a pass from me. that is quite literally the only thing I am asking SE to do regarding Viper.
We didn't saw much tbh but the name is kind of weird, i wonder if it has something to do with localization or if it will be the same name no matter what client you'll have.
I do like the fact that it'll probably be nicknamed VIP though :D
Y’all complain too damn much
Looks interesting. Here's hoping it's not a bloated nightmare rotation. I want one melee job that i can just vibe to.
I think it might be an Asian thing. I remember waaaaaay back in 2008 when Maplestory was announced to be getting two new classes which were both pirates, while the names of them here was Buccaneer and Corsair. Over in Korea where the game is made, the Buccaneer was called Viper. I'm assuming its just a cultural thing that a pirate related job is called Viper.
I'm so glad it isn't corsair . It's kinda what I hoped for in that it's a duel wielding weapon specialist with fast gcds and lots of ogcds from what it sounds like. I love NInja but have been maining it since StB and it'll be nice to have it something else to play especially since nin is always busted at the beginning of each expansion and it'll go well with alot of my scouting glams :D . Now I get my choice of melee/combo caster or just pure weaponary YaY!! Now I just wonder if it'll be pure dps or will it have some sort of utility to keep sam/blm at the top of dps hmmm
This forum sometimes is so weird
Not sure if I'm reading it right, if for VIP or against.
Text isn't always best at expressing the feeling or intent.
Almost read it as stating an obvious detail about subjective wants as if it Affected anything that the Development team wants. when all I really did was give more credence to the precedent of older jobs having names/job lettering being the first three letters than spaced out letters.
Yeah, same. Thought as soon as I sent my previous comment how funny WRR would be for WAR.
Yet it was so obvious in the eng language what it would be.
Brings to mind how are they named in other regions or languages. is Whitemage(WHM) WMG(weissmagier).
and true on the blue mage thing. but idk, blue was always special in just being out there. with its Blue.
Though I guess out there classes like WAR are the same.
I'm excited! Glad it's not a gun tbh. I hope the job plays more like RPR than the other melees. NIN and MNK in particular are complete garbage. My MSQ job will probably be RPR, VIP or the new caster, depending on their playstyles.
I don't know until i see it's rotation.
I like duel wielding but meh, i wanted to be a ye old pirate.
