This guy gets it.

A lot of us aren't even all that keen on content creators in the first place, though we're pleased to see them discuss the game critically and repeat talking points that we have been bringing to the table many times already.

To say nothing of the fact that a lot of us have been stalked and sent credible threats for daring to offer critical feedback in the first place. So seeing streamers join the chorus is certain a major confidence boost for those of us who regularly have to deal with the extremely unpleasant and cult-like elements of this game's fanbase.

So what you're saying is we cant agree with a streamer because then we dont have an opinion of our own

So if I share an opinion with Zepla for example, or MrHappy or whoever else, that means I cant get an opinion for myself

I can respect this position. It's generally good practice to list out some discussion points along with the link or, as various posters have done in the past, bring up those discussion points from one's own perspective.

Sadly despite people doing this there's been a lot of attempts at derailment and people who simply do not wish to engage in topics about the game's issues in good faith. I would say that some do feel a sense of security in that these higher profile personalities are now openly discussing the lacklustre state of things after having been made to feel silenced or backed into a corner for so long.

I suppose that's largely where I fall into, as the things these content creators have only barely begun to discuss are things that have been on my mind for quite some time. As an ARR vet I've been through the game through all its highs and lows bar 1.0 - and this feels off on a whole other level compared to the past.

This too. I'm speaking as someone who loves/loved FFXIV but having to weather the sort of backlash I've gotten for expressing my distate at the current state of things does take it's toll, albeit slowly. I take the position of if you care about something, you should speak about it's issues and how it can improve. The people who seem to want things to stay this way seem to do so because they don't like seeing the game being criticized. But if such changes were to be given official sanction, I have a hard time believing they'd be against them.

I'm not blind to the fact that the folks on this forum are distressed at the direction the game is headed in, but I confess I never considered that maybe having a streamer "in your field" would bolster the opinions of the worried or shy.

My problems are not with Zepla, or with the feeling that the game is failing. That sentiment is present on every single forum of every single game ever, ever.

Verde hit the nail on the head. The ... disgust comes from seeing people willingly suborn their own intelligence to be the "first" to offer up a streamers newest... "content" in place of their *own* ideas.

Yeah yeah, I know you can agree with the streamer. In those cases, one doesn't *usually* need to try to absorb reflected gloss by obsessively linking/discussing/posting about the streamer. Post your opinion.

This gets forums and content creators kinda backwards. People dont become fans of content creators to have someone tell them what to think, they go to content creators that think like them. The complainers post so much about the recent zepla videos because she agrees with them on some points. If she hadnt, they wouldnt post about her as much.

You should be aware by now that streamers will exclusively own all ideas they share with the larger community, even if those ideas predate their own considerations or were shared in lieu of their own engagement with the actual topics.

Once a content creator then shares your post on a given idea, or even just ends up concurring by their own reasoning, it is and was always their idea, and theirs alone. /s


Though, at the same time, some further notes as to what may differ in our suggestions/conclusions or how we reached them would probably be useful, as opposed to than solely throwing up "<Name>: <category of talking points>".

No it means you post your own opinion and put it in words instead of linking a 30 minute video and saying "this, I agree with this".
It's the laziest way to argue anything imaginable. If you think something then just say it. Don't make 12 threads saying "well zepla thinks", just say "I think" and say what you think.

No offense, but i'm not listening to a content creator talk about something as complex as Netcode like it's something that only a content creator has the ability of pointing out.

Thats like working at a IT department and going to a Starbucks to ask for help with your computer, well sorta, the spirit of it anyway.

I thought it funny that Asmongold made a video the other day touching base that devs shouldn't listen to content creators asking for more content because they are not regular players. Their entire job depends and revolves around the game and when they run out of things to stream, they blame the devs for having nothing to do.

It sounds like u think that a content creator gonna rewrite the "Netcode". And you don't have to be some super IT dude, to figure out, that something is outdated with this "netcode", like lagging macros, visible delays between game responses (like when u use an action 1 second before of a boss cast, and game does not take ur used action in account, or when people takes aoe damage from boss AOE in random order some times with big delays, or when person is laggin u wont able to rescue them). Small datacenters from late 2000s (wow having 1 datacenter for Europe is so not cool), with 1 and half players in duty finder, so if u manage to login in game in not prime time - say goodbye to ur duty finder, play solo. I still even cant send and recieve /tell messages while I am in a duty, I have always to say "brb queue pop" instead of just continue to talk while in duty.

furthermore, he hasn't been playing FF14 since level 60, which is at the very beginning of Stormblood.

He has no right to make such statements when he doesn't play the game and doesn't know which direction the game is heading.

I mean hes not completely wrong with thr graphics comment.

The base game looks way too washed out that many people use basic external shaders to make the colors pop more. Theres also a lot more jarring low quality, pixalated textures in a lot of places that gives the game feel outdated.

The reason why WoW's graphics tend to be more favorable is because its art style is alot more colorful and pronounced than FFXIV's where it has that odd blend of anime and realism which usually doesnt look too good.

So I can understand where hes coming from..i still prefer the FFXIV art style (really hoping that 7.0 polishes things)

I would love to get paid a few hundred dollars for having some of the same opinions as content creators. But a lot of them are most likely farming likes and views when the community has been discussing these issues since endwalkers came out or since at least 6.1

"Yeah, but you see, FF14 is a game that's 10 years old and was originally on the PS3 with an engine that had significant limitations.

He knows very well that the game will receive a graphical update in 7.0, although I don't think we should expect a complete overhaul right away because the devs have mentioned it will be a gradual process in multiple parts.

I think everyone agrees that the graphics are a bit dated, but to say he would play it if the game looked like FF16,
knowing it's clearly impossible for a cross-platform MMO that doesn't consume the same amount of resources as a solo game to resemble it without requiring an extremely high-end PC,
is somewhat utopian.

Plus, he had previously stated that graphics weren't important, so it's contradictory.

Opinions are nice to have if people in fact dialogue them, not make thread after thread linked to a video to farm views/likes. Half the time, these creators are just regurgitating threads on reddit anyway.....But hey, "dont hate the player, hate the game" I guess.
