I suspect that one would sell very well indeed!
I'll admit, I'd buy it!

That outfit screams "we reached the point where we don't care because you'll buy it anyways". Trust me, there's no coming back.
Reddit is also making fun of the attire, but the comments are mostly "It's bad but not THAT bad and $12 is cheap!". The situation isn't going to improve.
Dont buy this. Actual waste of money.
I bought it AND the lunar whale because I REALLY want to give them all my money.
4 is definitely a great game. Lunar Whale had me excited. Price made me think "Do I want to buy a mount so I can carry people I can't stand or do I want to spend that money on a Divinity Original Sin game that I'll actually enjoy?"
I had the same thought process. I do spend maybe $10 a year on Mog Shop stuff I get some enjoyment out of...but $40 for a mount I won't even always use is a really steep asking price for one item. I'd rather have a whole new experience than some side item.
That $10 a year includes money I wasted on fantasia-ing and then changing my mind about it and needing another one to go back, lol.
Because all it'll turn into is yet another Mogstation Bad post. Everyone already know MS has shade. You've been here since 2014 surely you already know this. And my "end of discussion" means there's nothing else to discuss. It's been done 100 times already. Folks who find MOG stuff worth will pay, folks who don't won't. Tbe store is going nowhere
Whlie I agree with the basic concept of "Some people will pay if they find it worth it, other's wont...store not going anywhere" - I'm more troubled by the lack of effort of this release. It just feels more predatory than some dramatic new mount that probably took enough dev time to at least justify being in the mog shop.
$12 for what this release is just feels like a bad trend, and something I'd want to discourage. I'm not someone who is 100% adverse to cash shops either. But if it feels like gouging (in particular players who may not realize how close they can create this outfit entirely for free in game)...well, I don't want to see that.
I guess it's just not something that bothers me. There's plenty on the Mogstation I'd never buy. Some folks are so into the cosplay space that they'd buy the coined characters outfit instead of just making it. Sure that group is small but I'd think the lack of sales would show them this doesn't work. Hence why I hold by "don't like it don't buy it". As I said I'm not paying a cent for it I encourage others to do the same if they don't like this
I have a guide on how to get this gear for free. Hear me out.
1.) Do PvP like once, get the old level 50 caster top and dye it blue.
2.) Either get some more of the gear from there or run dungeons with the same model (lvl15 caster gear, for example)
3.)?????
4.) Profit

And that's totally fair, but for me I just dislike gaming companies test the boundaries of what they can get away with when it starts feeling gross. I know cash shops are just a fact of life now, but some practices with them I think are worth speaking out against.
For example, I'll always speak strongly against loot boxes. This isn't quite on that level, but if this is tipping their toes in to see how much less effort they can get away with and get people to throw money at it - no thanks. They need a smack on the hand.
If only it had the hairstyle... litterally the only major thing this could've had going for it.
If only DoM got half the glam options DoW has...
I disagree, mostly. I want to see more character costumes released, even the ones like this that are 90% available in the game. The model exists and the work has already been done to adapt the model for other races, so why not give players access to it if they want it?
I want them to put more of these up, not necessarily expecting people to buy them, but still making them available for those that are after that very specific piece or want it to be non-class-locked. I don't care about cash shop stuff being "high effort" or "low effort", so long as it is priced high or low accordingly.
That said, I agree with you on this one being overpriced. It (and the other things I'm wishing for) should be at the same price point as the ARR Scion sets. Still, they have put it at the newer standard NPC price point and the marketing team is probably not up on the intricacies of why the oldest sets are priced differently.
On the subject of players who don't realise you can recreate something like it in-game... how much of the population is that? It just seems natural to me to look around every part of the game for what glamours I can get, and these are not exactly obscure. The gloves and boots come from multiple sources at level 15 and are one of the first really nice in-game glamours you get access to, and the coat can be found on the marketboard. I immediately recognised that Ysayle was wearing reused player gear, just like every other character at that phase in the life of the game.
Do people really have that little awareness of common glamour items while also caring about glamour enough to pay for it? Honest question; it's just outside of how I've always approached the game.
(And is this why people keep repeating "healers get nothing but white robes" and "there's no good dancer gear"?)
Edit: not a direct dig at the post above which appeared while I was writing this.
I'm still reading it as Lady Iceberg every time.
The white belt makes it a much better piece than the plain ones already in game.
My memory may fail me but isnt it just some WHM robe colored blue? Mogstation, more like Mugstation, a station where you can go to in order to get mugged.
Taledeji Aledeji isn't the worst FFXIV villain. It's Squeenix CEO san. I didn't like it when that guy in a suit interrupted Yoshi P at some point near EW launch by going up the stage, explaining about PS5 support and joking by asking him for deadlines and stuffs. That's not funny, you're not cool, stop trying to be one. Greedy upper managements are why the game industry is dying. Microtransactions in a game with monthly subs is a corporation greed in it's purest form.
They took FFXIV producer to work two jobs with FFXVI while keep putting subpar items on mogstation for extra money. And when it's finally a good item (which is just a reskin of good models), they maks it expensive af. This game keeps Squeenix alive with stable revenues and this is how they treat the game instead of actually improving it to retain revenue. I wonder what would happen if sub numbers start to drop massively, maybe they will prioritize XIV again. Rinse and repeat. Typical really.
Remember when people thought this game was different than WoW? the saviour of MMO? when there were a lot of people coming from WoW? Well once XIV get big, they become greedier and start putting focus on the wrong places. One lesson we can take is, no matter the corporation, they need rivals to keep them on their toes. Otherwise theyre just gonna keep milking players knowing there arent better alternatives out there.
At this rate I dont have a big hope for next expansion.
It's a bad joke. The turn the game is taking is discouraging. No wonder most people I know quitted the game until 7.0 I would do the same if not for ultimate.
Had to do a second take when I saw this. At first I figured they were doing the usual scummy thing of forcibly selling an outfit few people want (or even can use) with a hairstyle, then realized it's just the outfit that can basically be replicated in game.
This one feels pretty desperate, imo.
Honestly, it just feels......late. If it'd been released around late Heavensward to early Stormblood, when Ysayle's story was still fresh in players' minds, it might've made more sense (and more sales, for that matter). Why wait so long?
I agree, but I still think it's better late than never.
I want more of these NPC releases. Things like Moenbryda and G'raha's outfits, and maybe even later ones like Alphinaud and Alisaie's Shadowbringers outfits (in pieces).
If they don't want to give away job gear copies to other jobs, they could release things like Thancred and Urianger's outfits as still job-locked (and fork out the money to get them some actually unique costumes next time). Urianger's red-gemmed version of the AST gear is really nice.
More NPC weapons as well.
It shouldn't be withheld just because it's "low effort". The model is there, it works, why not make it available so people can have it if they want it?
If only they also make the outfits Dyeable, and not make them 1 whole Gear Piece so we can mix and match.
Also, I went into Dreamfitting or whatever its called to look at this....and, I actually think its Lazy and Scummy. I can get behind the idea and appeal of this!....IF it came with the Hair.
But on its own, its JUST an NPC specific Recolor of another Gear set.
From my memory, everybody else has a Unique 1 or a Kind outfit. But not Ysayle. So this being on sale WITHOUT the Hair, is just awful. I dont even like Ysayle, and I can look at this and get angry.
Waste of money since it doesn't have her hair
Plus, you can already get the coat in an ARR dungeon
Isn't Moenbryda's outfit already available? I forgot what it was called, though. Unless you're asking for the thigh tattoo as well.
Making it available isn't the problem here, though (to me: I can't speak for others). It's charging $12/USD for something that could be easily replicated in game for free. They could have made the purchase worthwhile by packaging the hair with it, but they decided not to for some reason.
i genuinly feel like they DONT actually want money. because where is emet/zenos or crystal exarchs outfits.. those would be flying off the shelf in hours... even i would buy zenos STB armour.. it looks amazing.. or yotsuyos robe or gods even tsukiyomi... but its like.. why are they waiting.. what are they holding back for... just give people what they want.. and the money would fly in... i buy mog stuff... i bought the magitech attire because it reminds me of nomuras style.. im not against it.. i WANT to indulge it.. but they are not appealing to the correct audience or using a slither of effort
The outfit cannot be "replicated" in the game. It can be approximated fairly closely, so long as you're willing to play caster, but it's not directly the same.
Most uses of the robe that I have seen so far on Eorzea Collection are specifically tying in with the pretty sash that does not exist on the other versions of the robe.
And yes, Moenbryda's outfit is available for DoW classes but not DoM. I'm not sure that I'd buy it now, but I definitely would have if it was available when I was at an earlier stage in the game. It's still a design that I really like.
Likewise for G'raha's outfit from the Crystal Tower raids – it was all gear you can get elsewhere, but not for all classes or in the exact colours, and with unique embellishments.
The Scions' older basically-in-the-game-already outfits have been like this in the shop for literal years and nobody kicks up a fuss, but as soon as they add to the collection, everyone reacts like the sky is falling.
And yes, it would be nice if we could just get them directly in the game, but it's long established at this point that Mog Station is *the* place where NPC outfits are made available. So again, given that there is unlikely to be any other way of acquiring these particular items, I would rather them be released than withheld.
