I'm still going to go in there on BLM and win.
Even with my 300 ms ping handicap.
And my victory will taste so sweet, sweeter than Ifrit's tears.
This is the same grp that beat ifrit doing a AV speed. Dedicated to those that are always rambling on about class/job stacking.

They are a pretty impressive team, cleared CC in under 13m as well. Big congrats to them.
So now that people are starting to get relics, that brings us to the next question.
What kind of materia would I get from one?
Congratulations, great job! :)
grats guys
you need to do hamlet more the drop rate is quite high if you hit 60K +, almost 100%. lots of people in my shell are getting close to being done with hamlet and we don't even play hardcore. The only true luck based part is the double meld which indeed sucks but all double melding sucks to perform.
Grats on First Relics!!! (Thanks for the video too. Was exciting to watch)
Yeah, that's fairly accurate. (Stares down "Troll Chest")
Although you could end up with 6-7 seals from 10 chests as well.
You can usually end up with 3 seals a night (5 hour span) even without a top 20.
I hope they make it so you can trade in 20 Militia Barbuts for a seal though. (jk since it's Rare/Exclusive)
People are still complaining about the seals drop rate?
What about SE still having speed runs for content? After everyone complained about it, they still add it. SMH.
congrats to the them though. I for one will not be getting these.
Ifrit extreme looks very tame compared to even most hard mode fights in WoW.. The only hard part or skill involved is having people that know how to deal with the lag, now before your eyes glow red and you start raging and tell me how much skill you have. I didn't say it doesn't take skill, but it should come from game mechanics, not fighting against poor latency.
In any other game with a decent ping everything in this fight is very standard and basic crap that has been rehashed in other mmos over and over and over. Don't stand in the fire blah blah blah..
What I want to know is... How many people got Dark Matter?
I don't really understand this, if you're talking about latency, it's slightly less shit JPs have to deal with, but it's not as if their servers are 100% responsive either. The lag really isn't that bad to where NA/EU/AUS have a blatant disadvantage. 70% of the time, it's just bad players, or being unlucky.
a group on Ridii got rilic whm snd 2 war completed got pic of whm but not sure how to post pic.
I am starting to think that there needs to be a lesson built into the SE website so people can realize what affect this ping has and how FOS you are when it comes to saying you are severely handicapped.
1. Most games are designed with some latency in mind.
2. Try doing a ping to various area in the US and Japan. Obviously you will quickly realize that from the US to Japan the ping is really not much or no more than if you were connected to a server across the US from where you are.
3. The high latency numbers you see are mostly your crap ISP not the connection to Japan.
Examples.
I am on the game right this second in Uldah near the crystal where pretty much everyone collects and the shouts.
My Send is fluctuating from 38-52, my receive even while moving around and waiting for the many many people to pop is 98-180 (I only seem to hit the 180ish area when I first zone in and it is loading the players and npcs).
When I exist the mega busy area of Uldah and move to the center area next to the water fixture and the house. I am pinging 72-138 varying.
When I go to Thanalan it goes even lower, if I go to the market wards onces again it goes even lower.
If you are pinging 300 MS then you have a local problem that a new server south of Los Angeles (where the FFXI server is) won't fix.
I did some tests using Speedtest dot net.
to Rochester NY (not NYC) I get ping of 107
to Los Angeles my ping is about 85ish
to Tokyo (busy city) to a slower server I ping 128, to the faster one in Tokyo I ping 109
The difference between NY and Tokyo is negligible at best
I am not running a powerhouse computer either.
I have a Core 2 Duo with a Gforce 460 (768MB) and 8GB of Ram.
Try doing a netstat while the game is running and ACTUALLY ping the server or at least the gateway that the game server is running from. Right now i am getting 172 from the game server and 184 from the login.
When you use speedtest .net you are usually pinging backbones or major ISP speedtest servers, not the internal server for a company. Although your conclusion is correct, you came about it completely wrong. check the server address for you. hint, ports are 54994 and 54992. also, the numbers up top in the game for send and receive are NOT your latency.
So uh...
Does the bow play songs or not?
No, it's just decorative. It's worth pointing out that the quiver is also a flute of sorts.
so is there a list of steps for newbies like me so i can look cool as well?
First off, I'm in the UK, in Europe. That means I'm not pinging 300MS with a problem on my end, it's actual data travel time across the Atlantic, through America, and to Japan, or whichever way it goes.
Secondly, that means that cracks/mobs/weaponskills happen THREE FULL SECONDS before it even registers on my computer screen. When Ifrit summons the infernal nails you can watch the time count on the instance timer three seconds after he does the hand movement/chatlog updates before they appear visually, and you can target them about a second after that. If its not a handicap that a plume/crack has been under my feet for three seconds already before I even see it then I don't know what is. If you were driving a car in real life and couldn't see what would happen three seconds in front of you, you'd crash.
Thirdly my 'crappy' connection, suits me fine for every other video game I play, streaming videos, downloads etc. It's a real surprise that everyone in the EU has the same ISP problems relating to this game. Thanks for staying classy though.
I'm glad someone actually understand what's going on.
@cloverkitty
Please look at these tests and tell me it's my "crappy ISP's backbone" that is the problem, when none of these servers are even in my own country (thus, outside of my ISPs backbone), yet they all perform much better than any of the servers in Japan.
I'm not going to say "lol japan internet sucks", because no matter how good the backbone in japan is, it can't send data faster than the speed of light (or in the case of optical fibers, more like 70% of the speed of light), and it cannot get around the fact that each network node in between adds a bit of lag too. This stuff is just an inherent limitation in how the laws of physics work.
A US west coast player might not notice a lot of difference between Tokyo and New York, but I can assure you that a New York player or European player will.
The fact that you think your s/r is ping alone is a strong indicator that you do not really know a lot about this topic. If it was, it would not only mean that your lag would vary by a factor of several hundred percents over the course of just minutes (which would be very worrying), but also that your ping in one direction could sometimes be up to ten times higher than in the other direction.
That said, I'm sure European players will still get relics, even if they have more ping to take into account. S-E can't be oblivious to how lag works, especially not after having run FF11 for over a decade, so they're probably making fights in a way that makes them winnable even with lots of lag. That does however not mean that it won't be even easier for Japanese players.
