I died 3 times each and in a row at the circle aoe and counting phase at the second boss of Lapis Manalis. Does this now mean that I am using tools that were not updated at that time because I died to casual content?

To be completely fair, boss fights in FF XIV are a dance. If you learn the moves well enough, you usually find yourself responding to specific visual or audio ques by moving ahead of time to avoid taking damage. That's not to say that there isn't some heavy add-on use happening. I'm sure there is. However, just because someone is preemptively moving in response to a mechanic, doesn't always mean that they are using a 3rd party tool. I do this a lot and I play exclusively on PS5, which has no add-on or mod accessibility.
