To be fair, SE can still make the argument that staying subbed with some leeway gives them reason to keep a particular instanced house around.

I JUST RELOCATED MY F$$$ING FREE COMPANY HOUSE WHEN I MEANT TO BUY A SMALL COTTAGE AS A PRIVATE ESTATE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
So basically, screw anyone who hasn't been around since day 1, since they won't ever have a shot at housing until the several thousand people who played the game even 1 housing cycle before them get one? Not to mention such a system basically forces anyone whose going for a large to be constantly bidding on smalls/mediums in between new ward releases even if they already have a house so they can rack up that loser's protection for when the plot they want actually comes out, causing competition to be massively inflated every round and screwing over people who may be actually wanting the plot.
There's a reason its called a lottery that's equally fair to all and not queue line housing.
Bad luck protection can work in many situations, like the Bozja duels. Housing ain't it.
Was the first to bid on a large Empyreum personal plot only to lose to the person who bid in the last few hours. This system feels really bad. I like the idea of upgrading or instanced. Sounds like a lot of last minute swipers this round… Not okay with this.
They just need to add 5 more wards or whatever every patch. Please! Then maybe I’ll eventually manage to even get a small.
I actually wanted to downgrade my FC house but no luck. It's ok, I'll try again if they add more wards in the future.
I still think they could do better with instanced housing. I haven't seen another soul in my neighborhood in all the years I've been there.
My wife and I both bid on 2 plots, we were the only bidders until the last minute and number 2 won both.
This but also on the thought that all housing should be easily accessible to everyone but then puts extreme limits on quantity.
How many large fc houses get eaten up by tiny FC or shell/personal fc? How many players own multiple personal or multiple fc that defend their gluttony through the excuse "well the original rules didn't say I couldn't"?
The system is complete garbage. A 4 man "fc" has no business being allowed to bid on a large fc house. People who put work into their fc and has the activity to justify a large house get punished by a system that allows anyone to bid on something that has an extremely limited supply.
Our whole Free company pretty much won a house today; (the active members). 2 of them (so far) won their own larges.
It's been a long time coming because since the lottery system came out, a lot of our FC members kept losing bids, so it's nice we all at last won our own personal houses.
Everyone deserves to have the size house they'd like regardless of how many people belong to an FC. If you have the activity and numbers for a large plot then pool money together and claim one as your own with multiple bids. That's how you're supposed to do it. Nobody with half a brain would try to snipe a plot that has 8-10 bids on it from one FC if there are other options available. Even less if you're in a not popular server with multiple options.

I'm...still in shock and some disbelief. Every single round I've placed a bid on to relocate my fc I've lost until today. Had another bidder after I put mine in at the start of the week, and had quite the pit in my stomach thinking I'd lose yet again.
My co-workers were wondering why I looked so pale and was anxious at work today. Holy. Sh*t.
going forward if i was SC i'd ad house every patch not just say 6.3 and 6.4 i'm talking every patch 6.35 ect and i'd add more largess as frist that's what most people want
"better luck next time"
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
nothing ventured nothing gained
Finally decided to leave my small (personal) plot and gamble for a medium.
Won it.
Haven't checked yet. Placed a bid this morning on a no bid small. Went with that since it had better odds since it wasn't one of the preferred houses. Yet not sure if I should have just risked it on one I liked better. It's not bad, just not preferred. Oh well...if I won I could just not claim and maybe see if one of the new servers has something I would want.
It's an FC plot meant for multiple people to use so multiple people can bid on it. Just means you either need to pool money and bids from your own members or just be smart about where you bid if you can only afford one. It's not really any different from multiple members of the FC placard spamming in the old days, just now you have the number in front of you.
I totally forgot to check
Agree completely on this. It SHOULD only be the FC leader. I say this as an FC leader myself. I don't want to have to ask my friends to waste some of the only chances they get to bid on a personal house of any size just to use their one lottery bid per drawing on an FC house that, let's be real, will never feel like "Their" house in the same way it would feel like "My" house.
Yeah I thought that too. But these people actually came to the plot and asked me "are you the one?". I got confused and told them I was the first bidder to the plot and didn't know who the other 7 were. They said the other 7 was their FC. Their FC indeed got the plot (number 8 won). And I then found out FC's can place as many bids as they have the gil for. Isn't it great and fair :-) I never knew this was a thing...
The system sucks but I've won everything I've bid on. This is my best day as a player so far and I'm really happy.
6 out of 8 bids, and still lost. I'd like to think the winner isn't a personal fc gaming the system but it probably is, the same with most bidders.
I am of course salty but I've preached my previous comment before. You cannot say every fc no matter the size deserves the house they'd like and then on that very same hand, limit the supply.
If it were only the fc leader, it would only benefit solo and small fcs. Allowing multiple bids benefits those large fcs who work together towards a common goal, exactly the type of fc who will use a house the most. And fc members can easily level alts to level 15 to bid at least in the first 3 starting city states. Level 60-61 if they are motivated enough to bid in the other two regions.
You can't "out bid", no matter how small an fc is, a single bid can stl win. In our case it was multiple bids and 75% chance to win, hundreds of millions of Gil. Haven't seen who we lost to yet.
Even if we won, the system is complete garbage and only the willfully ignorant would deny it.
Also, your projection is a little weird.
Large in Limsa - 4 bids, I was number 1 and number 2won. So disappointed.
We really need instanced housing. 6 large per ward isn't enough, especially now that the game has players who have had the time to build up enough gil to buy them and sink time into them.
I.... won. Currently in shock.
Large in Goblet, ward 29, plot 13.
I logged off with 5 hours to go with 3 total bids on it. I convinced myself I lost only to wake up a winner.
Won both a large FC house and a large personal. Pretty sweet that people don't bother bidding on houses in the Goblet.
Goblet is my favorite spot by far. It's got great high views and a nice aesthetic, and lots of the housing is turned so you don't need to see what a neighbor put in their yard. And it's one of the easier places to get to for low level roleplayers.
