It went back to normal for me at 11pm GMT
It was fine for me from 6:02 PM EST until 6:35 PM EST, when it died again. Then it died again at 6:42 PM EST, and again just a few minutes ago at 7:01 PM EST. I'm keeping an eye on my logs but for now, the game is unplayable.
Edit: it went back to normal from 10:32 PM EST until the following morning at 11:19 AM EST when the same issues started up again.
EU Light here, same issues but funny enough it didn't start from the beginning for 6.3 but about a week ago. So a few days before the 6.35 patch. Aside from the Nvidia driver no other changes were made to my machine and I have since tried rolling back but sadly that did not change anything. Spikes at any time, in pretty much all instances, but particularly noticeable in CC (oddly enough ali raids were surprisingly playable in comparison).
sigh happened tonight again on EU, im more confused than anything else, i dont know if these spikes are even real anymore, all i know is my damn NA char is getting more consistent pings than freaking EU char and i live in Europe, like this is laughable at this point, ive done tracerts enough and gotten friends to point the issue right at SE but knowing square we'll have to wait till another patch before they fix what they've broken as they can't seem to keep their hands off of messing with the network infrastructure
absolute clown show
So I was having severe packet loss every 2 or 3 days after 6.31,
But now after 6.35? I'm having that every. day. Please SE. I cannot do combat content much like this. How am I to enjoy the new patch at this rate???

Its 100% on squares end when hop 14 and 15 work i get 30ms, hop 14 and 15 are squares servers with hop 16 being the DC
same happens on Zodiark as of current being no idea if it is just single account or everyone it happen for or just some...
game freeze 2-4 seconds then works again after it has been up for a while.. it seems like a memory leak or something maybe ons server side?
That's been my experience since about the 4th of March. Pretty much any time of the day, everyday, doesn't matter how long the game has been running for. Freezes for a few seconds then goes on, but it happens so frequently that it makes most content unplayable. Last night it improved dramatically all of a sudden, the freezes disappeared and the lag was barely noticeable. I was able to run a few ali raids, but CC or extremes were still out of the question.
At this point I just wish they'd actually acknowledge that there is an issue and they are working to resolve it.
Same here on Crystal Zalera I'm getting kicked mid pull when im tanking
The issue seems fixed for me, as it's been roughly two days without any latency spikes or disconnects. There seem to be occasional 12-14% latency bumps every so often, but it's not noticeable in-game.
On my end it's still as bad as ever. Been playing less because it's just not fun when shit's buggy and GCDs don't go off, etc.
Issue seems fixed for me too,
I decided to try pinging my server directly rather than the DC and latency now reflects my ping, although i suspect my issue is different
Mine has just been getting worse, and worse, and worse since 6.3 and tragically more worse since 6.35. NA Faerie. Now my skills aren't even going off at all. When you're healing Agalia or Eurphosyne, you really do need to be able to use skills lol.
My connection is fine, it's def not that, it's been fine for years and is fine in other games. Whatever this new network compression protocol thing is they switched to in 6.3 or 6.35 clearly is not quite up to the task for everyone.
Tracert still shows the same results - the last hop before the DC keeps timing out. And one of the intermediaries frequently does too. Normally, before this issue started, there would be something in the range of 35-37 ms on hop 11 and no packet loss. Current packet loss is 5% (in a sample of 100). Sure is lower than a few days ago but still noticeable.
I'm also having issues periodically, seems to be completely random when it happens, most days it's completely fine, but today I'll get random lag spikes and the game is completely unplayable for hours. I'm in the UK using Virgin Media. it's been since 6.35 too, didn't have any issues before 6.35
Still dealing with this. Certain jobs with fast combos like MCH and NIN are borderline unplayable. Players in large scale encounters (24-mans, towns, FL) run in place for several seconds and then all catch up at the last second. GCDs randomly fail to register. I know others dealing with similar issues who don't want to post here and opted to just play less.
Not going to bother replying again until it's fixed one way or another, but didn't want potential staff monitoring this thread to think it'd fixed itself or something.
Just throwing my voice in this as well. I actually unsubbed specifically because of this issue, though the form does not let me tell them sufficiently why. Day after day, group content requiring reliable input is just unplayable due to windows of 1 to 30+ seconds where a small amount of packet loss in an NTT routing node results in the client halting any updates until it eventually fast-forwards up to the current state. No other internet issues present at the time, and previous to 6.35 this did not occur. The times can be correlated to when I detect packet loss on pings to those NTT nodes.
I will be monitoring to see if this ever gets fixed again (reverting to stateless compression), but for now I cannot play reliably and must stop my subscription.
This has been affecting me since 6.35 as well (UK-based). Last hop before the data centre on a traceroute always times out. It's usually playable, but it's clear there's some lag (I currently get better pings to the US datacentres than I do to the EU ones). But sometimes everything in game freezes for 1-20 seconds, even if the rest of the internet connection remains online and perfectly stable - there's then a 50/50 chance that either the game catches back up, or boots me from the server. I've already had two solo Eureka Orthos runs ended by such disconnects, which is always fun.
Complete lack of acknowledgement is a bit worrying now - not even a note to say it's being investigated or worked on. Genuinely worried this will ruin raiding if it persists until the new tier in 6.4.
Well gonna throw my voice in as well. I have the problems for almost 7 months for now. It dissapoints me that this issue is still not fixed. You get the feeling the opposite is the matter that it only gets worse. Especially in the evening times and on Sundays this game has become unplayable for me becuase of just lagging around + input lag.
I can confirm that this issue is especially affecting the content we can and can't do (well lots of cant do's). And SE's ignorance on this topic in general for the last year is starting to get fricking annoying. I can understand everyone who is canceling their sub because of this issue not being fixed or at least acknowledged and being addressed. All I have seen so far is the pointless copy&paste reply that doesn't help at all and blatantly ignoring the fact that only ffxiv is affected, not to mention said Moderator simply stops responding to topics when the copy&paste reply is not the solution.
Even tho I am thankfully almost not affected anymore by this issue since i moved to an optical fibre connection around 6 months ago there are still days when i get extreme high ping on EU with constant 10-20% packet loss and sometimes even more eventually resulting in random disconnects.
Took a couple of days off because I couldn't be bothered to play with it like that, and now I'm experiencing my first lag-free day since 6.35 started. Here's hoping it holds. \o/
I've been having issues since patch 6.3. Every hour I get at least one connection hiccup where everyone in the screen stops moving for 1 or 2 seconds, then it comes back in fast forward speed just like the topic creator described, and this problem has caused several wipes during my TOP progression. It's making me quite depressed.
I've swapped ethernet cables and my modem but nothing seems to work. I thought it could be my PC but I don't have internet problems anywhere else, just in this game. I'm considering changing my ISP even though I don't think it will fix the problem.
Please SE, do something about this!
After 6.35 the game is literally unplayable. Freezes for 5 straight mins every. game. session! I can't participate in a duties, hunt trains and many other activities. Heck, I can't even browse an internet while the game is freezed because all memory is occupied. I'm forced to suspend my subscribtion because SE refuses to fix or even acknowledge the issue.
+1ing because I saw it pop in the new posts.
I only just returned to the game in the past few weeks so to be fair my experience isn't really comparable to any long period of having no issues, to be clear, but I DO know that I'm losing connectivity on a regular basis in-game without having network issues (I have a second monitor and there's a time-waster idling game I "play" that will IMMEDIATELY lose connection if my network even momentarily hiccups).
Ever since the function of transferring to another Data Center has been added into the game via Aetheryte, i have been having the packet loss issues everyone else here is talking about.
But for me, it's not every few minutes, or every hour, no, it's every 5 seconds!
Which means that, from my point of view, the game freezes for 2 seconds, fast forwards for 2 seconds, and repeads itself once up to 5 seconds have passed.
Because of this, i can literally not play Ninja anymore, it's impossible!
Healing becomes close to impossible because every 5 seconds i brace for 4 seconds of blindness.
No other game, no other application, no other software has any issues with my internet connection or with packet loss whatsoever, it has exclusively been Final Fantasy XIV for months now, and i am sick of it.
On weekends, there is a big chance that i won't be able to play at all, while on weekdays, the lags only start occurring at rush hour, and proceed into the night.
No matter how i look at this, this is an issue caused by player population and the fact that you developers have allowed everyone to switch servers around as if changing socks, and naturally, alot of people are having issues because of it.
When so many people travel from one data center to the other, and in the next moment just travel to another, or return to their initial one, of course this puts a heavy load on your servers and their capacities, and in turn, this makes the experience for alot of actual players literally unplayable.
I've been on FF XIV since 2014 February in total, and not once did i consider taking a break or quitting, but i am considering leaving this dumbster fire behind now.
The developers have stopped paying attention to the things that matter, i mean just look into these forum pages, not a single moderator is giving a fart about these issues.
There are countless entries about these specific lags occuring since 6.3, but not a single SE person or moderator is actually bothering to leave a statement.
i've stayed quiet for so long, but i'm at the end of my wit.
Been a long time since I posted about my lag here; While the situation has improved, I was previously unable to play the game at all at 6.3, I am still having packet loss in 6.35.
I am currently progging TOP and having these issues continuing to persist for a fight with such tight dps/heal check is a massive pain. I play SGE and my GCDs skills, especially Eukrasia and Phlegma, still get refunded and don’t register correctly very often. Sometimes my slidecast refuses to work, or I can see my party members freeze and then zoom forward to catch up to mechs due to lag. These are some examples of the lag related issues I still see.
Really hope they can address these persisting issues, or at least make a comment on this soon. The silence is very frustrating.
Well atm I need to reconnect to my ISP at least once a day again in order to get a route that isn't fucked up because SE simply refuses to acknowledge that the issue is on their ISP's end. I am starting to consider canceling my sub since they seemingly dont care anyways and I don't see it as solution to reconnect my entire connection or even use a paid VPN because of ONE Service that is not working right while everything else is working.
It's already annoying af that I had to setup a VPN-Tunnel to my router for my friend so that the game is even playable for her in the evening and sunday in it's entirety. -.-
I highly assume the issue will continue to be ignored like it has been the case for over 7 months now.
Been a while since I posted here and am sad that there still isn't any changes to this situation for every single player here. I hope SE and the mods start to pull it together and fix that darn issue that is occurring for me since patch 6.3 for many of us players.
Still getting some package losses and lags here, thankfully no DC's for now but I'm still worried about it tbh. Am mostly doing overworld things since I can't really level up my tank classes in Dungeons and Raids, nor can I really play healer because having blind moments like these where you don't even know if you end up being hit by an AOE that you can't see or not is very, very annoying and frustrating.
More issues tonight on BT, having to use Exitlag to get around this problem - a subscription I don't want to have to pay for to play this game.
This thrice-damned error makes me want to uninstall and never return. No amount of troubleshooting fixes this pos error and it's never addressed when a patch unleashes it on everyone.
impossible for me to play like this. 90006 error all day, freezes and lag spikes. Internet is fine because i tried other games and no problem.
Also having problems since 6.35.
I commented on the other thread linked earlier in this one about the memory leaks and almost a month later, I am still experiencing the same issues. It seems to be totally random and is happening across many different zones and instances. Some days I can play totally fine, others I cannot.
Game locks up, memory usage spikes to 99%, then either recovers after 20s-1 min or does not, and either crashes or I am forced to hard restart the game. No 3rd party tools, my FPS is locked to 60 and my settings are below what I know my machine can handle.
Please at least acknowledge this is a problem, Square!
Seems worse for me since the 6.38 patch. i am seeing people freeze more often outside of duties, and GCDs also are not registering once again…
So annoying. :/
Thing got even worse after the patch. Memory leaks every few minutes. Gj SE, you make everything to people can't play your game.
Dear mods, do us a favor and show up in this thread.
I've been having connection issues with Crystal and Dynamis data centers since Saturday. So that's 3 days prior to the 6.38 update. Tracert has been indicating it's ntt.net or the data centers themselves. At first I thought maybe some preliminary work was being done prior to the big server upgrades, but nothing has changed after the upgrade. Every single time I connect to Crystal or Dynamis I get constant lag spikes. The red pokeball is now a minion that checks on me every 10-20 seconds. It doesn't matter what time of day, it appears to be packet losses happening all the time. Dungeons, trials, and raids are very unpleasant because I miss half of what's going on. Frontline is worse because the game actually drops connection about once a minute.
Standard stuff: only FFXIV, experiencing no connection issues with any other online game or any other internet content, when = genuinely always since the beginning of April.
This issue had fixed itself before the 6.38 patch, and as of today it's actually back, so that's great.
edit: In this case (unlike the 6.35 case) using mudfish actually resolved the issue. Makes me think it's routing through a bad node or something, w/e. Leaving this here in case it helps someone else.
Having this issue too. Did trace route to neolobby06.ffxiv.com and got node which is consistently timing out:

So this is definitely issue on SE end. Game is quite unplayable now, can't even do one dungeon w/o disconnecting.
Tho I guess you can't really blame this small indie game company for messing up their networking/infrastructure (:
Experiencing it quite a bit once more on Aether, especially in instances (e.g. Raids, dungeons, PvP).
First post here since I've been getting constant lag and wanted to see if others have the same problem. Glad I'm not the only one who is experiencing this. I'm from Primal and it was completely fine since 6.3 and 6.35. But two weeks prior to 6.38 was when I got the lag. It wasn't too bad and when they announce new hardware change, I thought it would've been fine, but it actually got worse. Lag was frequent especially in raids and hunts, and it got to the point where sound was also cutting off. I thought it was on my end, but after playing other online games, switching wifi to wired, and from this thread, this has to be on their end. Not to mention I'm close from the data server (west coast) if that even matters. I submitted a form, so hopefully some action takes place regards to this.
I too have been experiencing the sound cutting off. Things freeze for more than 10 seconds and then catch up all at once.
ARaids are powerpoint presentations now. It's impossible to play this while it's in this state right now.
I am from Aether - Faerie. I really hope that some action is taken to fix this.
