I worry about people who feel the need for excessive gore and violence >.>. It serves no real purpose. And if you enjoy seeing people with flying body parts and gallons of blood go watch Quentin Tarantino or Saw XX or what not.
Gore for the sake of gore is immature, pointless, or unveils a questionable aspect of one's psychology.
Violence and blood for the sake of telling an important story or making an important point is perfectly fine.
If I have to kill 1000 beastmen to get a key, I do not want to see blood and limbs being scattered 1000 times. That's pointless.
If I have to engage in a quest where I defeat a major boss then it's perfectly fine if there is necessary blood & violence in the cutscenes.
It's when you cross the line from artistic merit to gratiutiy that it becomes an issue.
As for there being blood & violence in war... well, if I just wanted to stare at that all day I would go play one of the bazillion violent games out there. Surely there is enough options out there for people who enjoy that sort of thing, and enough room in our world for FFXIV to not have to resort to that?
Bloody Sephiroth, ff7....teen rating http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/65552557/9367987

If they did it in the 90's, why not now?
I do not really see a need... blood does not really add to the immersion, if anything it takes away because it will always fade away or such other unrealistic things...
I will say no to blood and yes to all those other things we need instead... like this http://andriasang.com/con1d3/ffxiv_i...2406v/full.jpg
Keep in mind WHEN they did it? In one of the most pivotal scenes in that story? In a scene that is still remebered to this day?
It is one thing to show violence and blood in a very critical point in a story so that years later one still remembers it.
It is a totally different thing to show violence and blood every 5 seconds just for the sake of doing so.
I hope that all can appreciate the difference between the two.
Who's talking about excessive gore? More or less everyone who is for blood in this thread also states that they want it to be just small amounts, not mortal kombat amounts.
I think it would look nice if my clothes got a few blood stains here and there after an epic battle, but it shouldn't be gallons upon gallons of blood pouring out of my character's body.
In XI, some weird purple stuff comes out of you when you get hit. But other than that, yea, can't really think of any other legitimate time you haven't already mentioned.
type-0 is the only game that have blood.
What's blood? I thought we all had glitter inside of us.
this thread is still alive? daaaang. oh hey, so blood is one thing, but can we get a more intense critical hit animation. in XI i remember, a critical would make this satisfy crunch/crack sound and you could tell the mob was really suffering.
And people often making statements like this are most likely part of the religious right.
I believe we did have a talk about this in the linkshell, yesterday.
I'll say it again: there is nothing immature nor psychologically wrong with gore for the sake of gore per-se and if it's pointless - that's not for you to wonder about since it's going to be a toggle anyways.
It won't be an issue because you'll be able to toggle it on and off.Quote:

I don't think it's immature or wrong for blood and gore but there are lines that are crossed take for example horror movies now a days it's how much blood and gore can we put into this to make everyone puke their guts out. Blood is fine gore can be fine too but nothing over bored. Final Fantasy isn't about the blood and gore it contains none of them have been it's been about the story and the characters and game play and sometimes graphics. but that's it.
I recall XI has purple blood effects in battle...
As for people delving into deep philosophical or religious arguments for and against it, I consider it more simple than that. Basic mechanics. Wanting it in as an on or off option in the game is a part of making fighting more realistic and it can contribute to immersion. Little things like having the weapon actually appear to make contact with the mob is more realistic to me than seeing the character strike at empty space. To me, adding blood relates to the feeling of a battle and its consequences.
It is no more unorthodox to add blood effects than it is to make the character cry out when he/she is struck in battle.
Final Fantasy Type 0 is filled with blood...LOTS OF IT...COVERs much of screen in some scenes...
That said I don't really care for too much blood...it doesn't need it...and if they do ever add it...I hope it can toggle off to explosions or dematerializations...
I think blood should show up subtly on the characters and mobs the longer the fight goes on and more when you get crit. then after fight it slowly disappears.
No thanks. If you want blood, diablo has a lot inside the dungeons.
as long as the blood wasn't in the same manner as say.... god of war, i think i wouldn't mind. injuries happen in combat, even in fantasy settings where magic can make you all better even after the worse case of the Malboro-aids.
