People calling au ras lizard/dragon people makes me sad, considering they are neither and we have bangaa in game. Gosh Square give me bangaa you cowards!
Also I will never understand the "we can have humans with X animal feature but you can't have full fledged beast races because that's too furry for me" mentality some people seem to have.
Except this isn't sugar. Your character is literally nothing but a glorified Hyur with a Tamamo Headband. In terms of flavour, you're just adding sugar and milk to coffee and call it special.
There's zero originality in constantly going for human-like races, and even "furry" races have their own appeal if played right.
And I want another small race. I know this is a canine thread, but... still. I already said I wouldn't mind the Lupins, the assets are there and they just need a
polish anyway. And even if they're a beast race, it wouldn't be the first time Square ended up retconning something... But I wouldn't mind another short race. Plus, Square's just the kind of company that would reuse assets, and having another cute race would make use of Lalafell models a bit more.
And if said race had alien skintones, maybe it'd be the new vegetable race :p
Well, there you go most people don't like furry and monster races but they do like human which means you're a minority and therefore get no attention
unfortunately for you this is a japanese company and not netflix
enjoy! :'D

Come on, you can cast better bait than that.
While I agree with the sentiment, it feels like people are just biting low effort b8. Nothing kino about low tier funposts. :/
They already confirmed that female hroth is the gonna be the last race/gender for FFXIV so were probably not gonna get it sadly.
I dont think it was ever 100% that there was never gonna be another race.
They just explained that the process of making one, and fitting armor to the bodies is alot of work and a huge undertaking. So the Viera and Hrothgar "MAY" be the last races. And I think there was mention that if they could find a way to lighten the load, they could consider new races.
I dont remember the whole quote with 100% accuracy. But I dont recall there being a definitive statement that they would never make another race.
Just like how they never said definitively that they wouldn't make the "Missing Genders"
But, if I missed something; like a new statement, then Ill accept being wrong.
Ive said it quite a few times, that Bangaa would be pretty cool. And just like the Lupin, we already have some models in game. Just touch them up/update them, add some customization options. And BOOM.
I think They would be well liked....but of course its a beastrace, so it probably wouldn't have MASSIVE appeal, but it would be great fanservice, and another cool non-human option
First page of the thread:
Me, awaiting the rage storm that will occur when said race will inevitably be missing features like Hrothgar and Viera were/are:

(This was a joke. I know I have to say it clearly because people don't know how to perceive the obvious, and thus they will get offended if I don't)
In all seriousness, if we were to actually get a dog-like race, I think it'd be better if it was more like what the OP wants, one similar to the standard races we already have. SE is too lazy and/or incompetent to do beast-like races properly, as Hrothgars have shown us, so it's for the best if they make a race that'll actually be a complete package and not missing features the other races have.
I wholeheartedly agree.
Even if Burmecians were developed for FFXIV as a player race, they would look completely different from their previous iterations (most likely given a Lalafell body with human hands and feet, claws only being attached to their racial gear). Their chances of getting headgear would be even slimmer than Hrothgar, because of how unique their headshape would be. Also, tails would be regularly cut off, like what we're seeing happen to the other tailed races with certain outfits.
Funny thing to note, Burmecians and Cleyrans aren't short at all. The chibi-esque art direction Final Fantasy 9 uses might give the impression that everyone from that game is short, but Freya is over 6 feet tall. If Zidane was depicted as his actual height in Dissidia instead of staying faithful to FF9's style, he'd be the same height as Cloud.
Like a noodle.

No more beastial races. Hrothgar were/ are a headache to bring in & even now are still very much a limited race. WoW is having an expansion with everything you could want if it's a deal breaker & even have the dog faces many are looking for.

I'll pass on Lupin tyvm.
I'd rather SE stick with what it does best.

Allagan people because someone definitely wants to have all that hi tech lines on their body, clearly
You realize Square is fully capable of doing beast races right? They've done them in multiple games, 14 is just hindered by spaghetti code and, arguably, not wanting to deal with it.
And... did you just tell people to go play WoW if they want beast races? Really?
Anyways, you guys who just want another human with X features baffle me. Seems it'd be more beneficial for you, everyone, and the game if Square would just put the effort for such a race into just improving what we have now. Because let's face it, character creation/customization (outside of glams) isn't exactly stellar.
As far as a practical design standpoint, just add ears and tails options to the character creator and the you can have all sorts of animal types using the bace human or miqote models.
Or add a fashion accessory slot like in lightning returns and they can create all sorts of addon options to the characters to replicate new races or anything
I'd pass on Lupin too if my one and only example was the most unflattering piece of trash I could find on google to illustrate my point.
And sure, we're giving them a headache to improve upon. But they wanted to put the race in themselves, they wouldn't have done it if they weren't on board with it. How do you feel knowing that the only Scion that's a Highlander doesn't even use a Highlander body?
"Stick with what they do best", oh you mean rehashing your character model and slap in features? Being that tasteless?
It's a sarcastic meme reserved for when people defend Square's inability to easily add certain features. Funny thing is, the indie scene has quite the advantage these days; nobody expects the same level of graphical fidelity (plus voice acting) so a lot of what contributes to a ballooning budget and time sink these days can instead be routed towards gameplay.
