It's FF 7 for starters, and it's Cloud. People will most certainly buy it. SE knows this.

Yes, tends to be forgotten that YoshiP has a seat on the board of directors with CEO Matsuda.
SE also created the "Blockchain Entertainment Business Division".
Could get strong-armed anytime by the gang of Shinra directors to go along with the program, also SE MMO segment does not produce the most revenue, the mobile games segment does.
Dude, the playerbase didn't care when the cash shop was introduced. They didn't care when patches were becoming leaner and leaner. They didn't care when the story become secondary over cheap tearjerkers. Do you really expect the playerbase to care when NFTs are introduced? Just chill and enjoy the descent and duck out when it gets too dark, lol.
Yoshida will sell healers their DPS abilities back as NFTs
$30 to use Miasma again? What a steal!
I've heard of NFTs before but don't know what they are, I watched the mr happy vid and read some of your comments.
Are NFTs some kind of new cash shop item? are they a digital image that moves or a digital image u can slap onto your other pics, like u can put that image of cloud in a photo taken by your family to look like he was in the pic with your family?
What is an NFT?
tl;dr: It's a digital "ticket" that lets people know a transaction has occurred from one party to another. That's it. You see, items you buy are tied to your account owned by the game company and for some reason cannot be transfered between players in the same system/game. This lets you buy a digital item like a blue chocobo mount from one player to another player. You could say that SE or any company could just create a system to allow this to happen similar to that Valve/Steam marketplace thing but something something, too costly, something something.
If he didn't have some measure of input and the authority that people have to listen to that input, we'd be overrun with cash shop popups everywhere in the game. If you have no authority, it doesn't matter one bit if you give strong evidence or not. The higher ups are going to steam roll you. So we don't know the nature of things, but there does seem to be some measures in place where he can't just be steam rolled.
So it's basically a digital receipt that sais u have purchased the right from said company to sell company items to other players instead of them going to the cash shop to purchase it they can purchase it from you because you purchased the right to sell it to them from said company?
Am I understanding it correctly? sorry for the repeated questions, I comprehend things alot slower then normal people do.
so buy an action figure and instead of a ffxiv emote as the digital bonus you get a worthless digital stamp linking to a picture anyone can just go see anyways?
wonder if they'll realize no one is buying it for the NFT part?
Considering the cost is $30 less expensive if you skip the 'NFT part', I think they'll know immediately ...
For those who think they hate blockchain technologies ... they're no longer connected directly to generating digital coins, so massive 'mining' farms are not required. The technologies are more about corporate governance and less about speculative gambling that <insert least favorite digital coin> is going to keep increasing in price forever.
For video games, this might become 'limited time' purchase of cards you can use in a game -- and an entirely separate headache about pay-to-play. I know at least one online company that sells music has been touting it as a method to actually get money into the hands of artists through direct sale of music using non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The ones you hear about, poorly designed images with little or no speculative value once the creator has sold them all have started crashing big time, as has the speculative market for digital currency. There is a glut of used high-end GPUs on the market now that it costs more to 'mine' digital coins than they're worth.
The Easy Money, plus Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO), is gone from a market where people realize that they're about 12 years too late to be at the top of that particular pyramid.
Still, there are always those who seem to enjoy gambling their money/life savings ...
Tifa or Aerith will be next just u wait.
First of all. Thanks for the awesome name. Evert time I see it I hear Reyn say Now it's Reyn time and You will know our name starts to play.
On topic: Yoshi P might have some sway. Or the store would be worse than it currently is. Unlike what people think XIV isn't as big of a money maker as people think. MMO's maintenance tends to eat at profits and if you look at any of the earnings reports DQX and XIV combined brings in a fraction of what there mobile department does.
I do agree the some of the other post though. Any moderate dip in subscribers or if enough peoples fanaticism for certain brands leads them to buy the NFT's to a level that the bad press is an acceptable loss might be enough for them. Matsuda isn't a fool. He's at a position where profits determine how he is seen by the shareholders.
Oh no, NFTs!
It's only a receipt. That's it. That's all an NFT is.
If Squeenix (or anyone else) wanted cash shop purchases to be resellable to other players, they can already do that without involving NFTs. As of a while ago, you have already been fully capable of buying, say, rare dyes (Jet Black, etc.) through the cash shop and putting them on the marketboard for other players to buy for gil.
100% of the things that cryptobros are claiming "u need nfts for this" or "blockchain technology can make this happen" are things that are entirely possible to implement without any NFT involvement whatsoever.
Such disappointment
Is not their intention.
Did someone say Blockchain?
There are three ways to obtain the 'rare' dyes at this point.
(1) Purchase them from the Mog store. These are Untradeable, so you will not be able to sell them on the Marketboard.
(2) Purchase them using Silver Feathers you get as part of the Friend campaign. Again, these are Untradeable.
(3) Obtain them from your retainers. They're sometimes (rarely) in the Venture Containers that show up. These are the ones you see on the Marketboard, as they are fully Tradeable.
The age of "crypto" as the Next Best Thing is indeed coming to a close. Corporations, however, have started to find that blockchain technologies do have a place in corporate governance, so those aren't going away any time soon.
I expect Square Enix's venture into "NFTs" is going to be limited to "here's this neat thing you got in our game X that you can actually utilize in game Y" because they wrote both games.
I note that Roblox has had a relatively robust trade in 'skins' and other items without ever using the "NFT" acronym (although the underlying technology might indeed be blockchain, or some other verification technology). A fascinating view of the speculative market this has engendered can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTMF6xEiAaY (start at 19:40 for Collectibles/28:41 for Black Market)

♪ NFTS are a scam! you don't own anything real! Crypto currency is a stupid investment! ♪♫
Pretty sure that if Steam shuttered as a company tomorrow, you would be left with no access to games you had purchased but not yet bothered to download/install locally yet.
Of course, the same applies to Square Enix and FFXIV. If the company goes poof tomorrow, everything we've spent the last 9 years doing would be gone forever.
What's actually troubling is the platform they are using; "Enjin" which used to be a forum/gaming hub, and technically it still is; but it is very VERY much a dead/unused forum hub.
Enjin now today is primarily a crypto-coin marketing community and has it's own coin-base called of course: "Enjin Coin", and while it's Discord is fairly active; it's very heavily streamed towards Crypto.
You have to have a Enjin-wallet with funds to make the digital edition purchase; because (and this may just be either SE testing the waters, or them going in with caution) but this NFT(which won't exist until Nov 2023 btw) swims within Enjin's ecosystem; so not a great sign- as it's not a popular or valuable coin-base.
Long story short; people should just buy the normal physical edition of the action figure and pretend the digital edition does not exist; because it very well may not exist in the future; as stated in the cautionary fine print SE distributed.
shame to see it.
Seeing how GameStop is failing epically with NFTs and Minecraft outright banning the crap from their game, it won't be long before SE gets the message that NFTs are not the way to go. Unless they double down and try to keep pushing anyway. xD
Doubtful. They're more likely to get excited and steer into it because "Other people are dropping out which means that we have a better chance at succeeding!"
They SOLD GAMING STUDIOS to get into this. They're not going to give up on it. If the statue fails, they'll try something else, if that fails, they'll try something else. It's going to take A LOT for them to realize they made a mistake....a lot.
Coming to a mog station near you
when i said "nfts are shit amiibos without the little statue" i didnt expect them to be taking notes
Ah, and look who heard about it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNBgny7Ow2Q
They really get the point, about how much sqenix does NOT get the point about ff7.
I would say they are sort of the same thing consider both are needed to download dl-, ah, fun side content! I would be down with amiibos a bit more if they functioned like skylanders in the sense where I can put my Link amiibo on my switch while playing pokemon and my trainer is Link or where I can put a splatoon creature on the switch while i'm playing Oddesy and I get to run around as the stinkling with all it's powers in said game.
