You know I don't think Balmung reputation came out of nowhere. Can't say if it's reputation as the (E)RP center of NA DCs is well deserved or not but it's there. Not everyone in Balmung is responsible for it yes but the billboard "campaign" was made by an ERP FC operating there and not "travelers". Hell even the blockade is the playful take on this since the guards are all cargirls using chest revealing Uraeus Coat as their uniforms. It is what it is. Give it week or two and tourist enthusiasm will fade. Yes Balmung won't be miraculously purged off ERP or any other form of RP but that's just how things are

It should stabilize after a while. Just a lot of players wanting to try out the new feature and if people are harassing report them as usual.

With hundreds of "roleplayers" on the streets of ul'dah selling erp fo gil...idk if Balmungs standard for quality can be lowered even if millions of trolls breach the gates. Everyone besides you is probably really happy right now, cause they get more customers i guess. <shrugs>

You don't have to go to Ul dah where most of this is taking place. I have a number of characters there and only went to the city for the first time yesterday. It's fun and entertaining and I've been in Balmung for years.

Foster such a reputation and this happens. Who would've thought it.

Balmung was once a RP capital for all NA servers.

Now, it's still a capital but for a slighly different type of RP (chuckles)

A solution for "true RPers" around is to move to another server and there make their on stuff. RP is not a Balmung exclusive thing. We can see RPers in a lot of servers.
Maybe the best way is to leave Balmung to be this eternal carnival and do RP somewhere else? :)

I mean, eventually they'll get banned or suspended if they keep it up.

But I guess some safety measures on travel should be considered.

I think people blow that reputation out of perportion, acting like its the last days of Rome, when in reality it's a pretty normal server outside of Ul'dah also people from other servers act all high and mighty but goddam I've been to some of your Limsa's and it felt like home.

from ym understanding Balmung was the "unofficial RP Server" back in 1.0 day. so it was away highly popped for that reason. and now that people can visit yes some want to see if the memes and all the "ERP" stuff is true. some my want to visit friends. personaly i'd like just to see how an RP server work you know. there is some rp on mine but not world wiled you know. so maybe if quiets down can pop voer see, but I'm not there to ruin your fun. and tot he "trolls" being A holes to the people of Balmung just stop.

Almost! The unofficial rp servers from 1.0 (Fabul and Besaid iirc) were rolled into Balmung come 2.0, so the old 1.0 roleplayers stayed there. It was a highpop server from it being a Legacy server as well, on top of the rp aspect. I was on one of the old 1.0 servers from my brief time in 1.0 so Balmung was where my legacy character was dropped. I also rp so it was perfect for me, but all the crap about my server is 100% overblown and has been since 2013. The "haha funny erp server" jokes were old in 2013, it's mummified and ancient now nearly a decade later.

Honestly, right after the servers opened after maint, I saw a lot if Balmungians with their glowsticks and happy emotes at the aetheryte plaza to welcome people. We don't mind the visitors as long as they are respectful. People coming over to see the non-club rp scene (they are wildly different entities) is fine, asking if you can sit in at an event to see how it works is also fine, but disrupting and harassment is what we don't want and are sick of and will result in a report. Yes, erp happens, but we're far from the only server it happens on, we're just hypertargeted because we're the oldest unofficial rp server.

Fun fact, Gilgamesh was the old sister rp server. :) Mateus was the overflow following Balmung being locked down shortly after Stormblood for having too many people on it and being big-c Congested, after a lot of discussion on where people could go if they couldn't get on Balmung.

I've always loved the fact that given that Balmung and Mateus are the big RP/ERP spots on Crystal, what happens when you slip a simple blank space into the names, and what words are formed when you do so. Because it's just so laughably fitting for what the servers have become.
