Do you want instanced housing?

Yes, I would like to have instanced houses, with yards, an increased item limit and in a choice of locations (all with nice views). I really cannot see any other way they can meet demand.
I definitely don't subscribe to the notion that houses should continue to be very limited so that if I win the lottery and get a personal, I'll feel like I achieved something.

And you're twisting what posters are talking about.

We're not talking about cash shop monetization (not to mention that ESO's subscription give subscription holders double the item limits). We're talking what features housing in other MMOs offer would improve the housing system here.

Worried about item limits? Let's look at RIFT's Dimensions instead. Base item limits start between 100 and 400 depending on Dimension size. Players can use in game currency to increase their item limits to 1000 -2000, or real money to increase them to 1600-2800.

As for ward activity, when you're in a FC that's near max member cap then of course it's going to seem active when you have members hanging out at your house. But if you move to the other side of the ward where your FC can't be seen, does it feel active on that side also? How much time does your FC spend wandering through your ward instead of sticking to the FC house and maybe the nearby marketboard?

I don't have much to add here but to say that instanced housing would be a great addition to the game, and it's shocking to me that they have not yet added a system like this to the game.

In comparison to MMOs people reference FFXIV's output is quite poor.

300 for a large? Holy lowball.

If you're a sub in ESO (which again I feel it is very fair to assume, given we're a sub game...)- you have:

700 Traditional furnishings
10 special furnishings
110 collectible furnishings
10 special collectibles

830...

In FFXIV you get 400 inside and 40 outside. . . . By you get I mean you /don't/ get because lol, good luck getting a large. It's likely not going to be happening.

Even if you're without a sub ESO is:

415... f2p game, no cash required... guaranteed available for you if you wanted it

And you don't even have to use real money to buy the house nor sub to the game (as there are mansions available in game via non-cash currency routes), its available- no praying needed.

Then of course you could simply earn the largest size house being subbed to the game for 12 months... just by existing you can earn a house, the largest size house. Not saying that's my favorite solution, but it very fair to say you wont earn a large house in FFXIV in twelve months- and potentially ever.. even if you wanted one.

If you were a simple / low-maint. type of person you could get multiple houses right away from your sub. MULTIPLE, right away! Considering this in the grand scheme of things now we're talking multi-thousands more slots than FFXIV if you count cross housing. Jesus... Besides the fact there are quite a few early game places, via in game mechanics, that are not too hard to get (of course they've got those early game slot #s).

Yes, ESO has some predatory mechanics in their cash shop (loot box, some FOMO). But even with that predatory system, including it not including it, both ways it makes FFXIV's house 'system' look like a joke. If the worst thing that happened to housing in FFXIV is we could earn some for free over an extended period of time given sub-time, some we'd have to purchase if we wanted to own /all of them/ quickly, and many of any of the available sizes (like ESO) can be earned in game via gil and quests... Oh no, woe is me-- where do I sign up for this better world? Because I'm signing up.... and an alternative point to that- I don't see why I wouldn't want SE to add the houses, and even if they added some in the mog shop just ask them not to use FOMO ("I see most houses are available in the game that have feature parity and are also not neglected in their beauty, I see you've given me a free currency to slowly get some purchase houses if I wanted..., I see some in the cash shop that might take me a whole year to earn passively.... I understand it would be unlikely to passively earn all the houses unless we are talking many years.. even if I don't.. I'm not left out of content.." ... "I am okay with this").

Which isn't even the only housing system people are referencing here.. Jojoya mentioning the multi thousand slots in Rift. Wild star was multi thousand as well (and very very consumer friendly!). GW2 technically has a sort of garrison for players but you can be part of multiple guilds that each have their own large space, garrison like mechanics, AND 2000 slot decoration (though I'd have liked to have my own space lol, which is why I don't frequently reference that.. I think there are good ideas, and for F2P game it's not bad at all, but I'd prefer we go Wild Star, ESO, and the like). Rift is a little bit akin to Wild Star, I think Wild Star's was better though- but Rift is still alive lol (however Wild Star's housing is probably the main reason why it didn't implode right on launch, due to many factors from bad publisher support, to too much hardcore focus at end game- especially weird because the most favorite feature of the game was casual.. so they made a huge mistake by catering so much to hardcore when the most popular feature they had was a casual feature lol, etc). There is a reason why the game that's dead is still held as a trophy for housing (doesn't mean it couldn't be improved, but the reason is obvious and is exceptionally consistent comment from people who have experienced or seen it in action).

Honestly If WoW got it's... Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker out of the kodo's stern and gave people housing, probably would make FFXIV look like a little kid too. Given their glamour system is multi-thousands of slots, and they've already got Garrisons, I doubt they couldn't do something similar to housing if they gave it an actual try. This is something they're potentially investigating now too, since they said it in a semi-recent interview- so this may become a reality in an upcoming expansion (not Dragonflight, they said this themselves).

I tend to reference Wild Star as I think its a fantastic inspiration point that would leave players with a friendly system, ESO has a lot of really cool locations but of course is a bit more 'money plz' lol. If somehow they achieved high gameplay progression and mechanics of a Garrison like system (Island Sanctuary, I assume) and then the creative potential and instanced power of a Wild Star system and bound it into one solution. Spank me with the aether paddle because I'm in!

So I spent a lot of time on ESO, but my preference would still be towards a the Wild Star like experience with a lot of actual gameplay content related to it as well (akin to a Garrison), but if someone said FFXIV or ESO system pick only one.. There would be no delay in thought (though I prefer not purging the ward system for those that like it, I just really don't care about the features it offers and don't think they're that great.. meanwhile the rest of the game is suffering feature opportunity because of them including things as simple as "can a player even own a house they want" to which the resounding answer is "no").

Why are some people incapable of comprehending that asking for instanced housing is not asking for the removal of existing wards? Why is this so extremely difficult to understand?

I'd like to see apartments expanded to small, medium and large with multiple layouts. I'd also like to see gardening and workshops decoupled from FC and home ownership so everyone can have access to that content.

We already have instanced housing though, they are called apartments and FC chambers.

Instead of devoting a ton of resources and man-hours rehauling the entire housing system which would end up alienating those who prefer the ward system, why not improve apartments instead which is less resource intensive and yet already available to all players with no fear of auto demolition?

Absolutely yes.

It should have been instanced to begin with to be honest. Their excuse for not having instanced housing was some nonsense about keeping the neighborhoods "alive" and having it feel "lived" in.
Meanwhile, my housing ward is always empty. I think I've seen another person once in the past six months. xD

Instanced housing all the way!

I play on I think the most populated server on Primal and have never seen another player in any ward since I started playing over a year ago who wasn't in my FC.

You are talking about the same people who thought wards 19-24 meant 5 wards for personal use.

Statistically, a large chunk of them will also believe that man and dinosaurs lived at the same time.

I mean, a lot of people are asking for that as well. If they made apartments actually equivalent to houses through spending gil to upgrade them to add more rooms, an outside area, etc, then I'd be fine with that as well. I think the majority of the people wanting instanced housing don't want any changes to the ward system and still let people have the opportunity to join that if they so please. As for the auto-demolitions, I disagree with the concept of them as a whole because it is essentially a FOMO system built into the game as a means of "fixing" supply issues at the cost of punishing players who want to take a break. I personally think you should be able to just sell your plot back to an NPC for the cost of purchasing it if you don't want the plot anymore and would rather have the gil.

As for the waste of dev resources, if Island Sanctuaries turn into a glorified mini-game I'm sure a lot of people will ask why SE wasted countless man-hours on creating a whole new system of an instanced island instead of figuring out how to make instanced houses instead.

You can still have the ward system. If anything, instanced housing might actually lessen demand in the ward system, so more players could get what they want.

If you improve apartments to the point that they offer the same features as housing, do you know what we would call that? INSTANCED HOUSING!

One aspect i would enjoy is something i found in an old game (Phantasy Star Online) The option to hang out in a dudgeon after completion. Should Instanced housing be a thing as proposed, one could see the use of in game dungeon assets as areas for homes/ scenery. Imagine being able to set a theme to your home in Dun Scaith, The Crystal Tower, or The Anti Tower.

I think most people just.. want.. a house that has good creative feature parity lol. But your post is where my dream of dream lies, dream of dreams- my greatest desires.

FFXIV is LOADED with absolutely amazing locations. If they could allow us area control, either via ESO like formats or Wild Star or Rift like... Oh my lord.

By loaded I mean loaded. SO many amazing locations and assets, and if you could foreseeably plop a house down in many of those (even if by lore it's a mirage, for some locations)----- freaking incredible.

I've wanted this for a decade at this point lol. Plz.... Which I would add for people who are say 'you need to say what you want, etc, not just vaguely mutter' - I've posts on posts on posts with very high details of what I'd love to see, dating back essentially 10 years and they're quite consistent too so it's not like I'm uncertain (and usually incorporate honest feedback on potential compromises or long term paths to desires, which can include bringing apartment system up to greater speed or utilizing the Island Sanctuaries).

The other extra tenant I have is that if everyone can have a house we can add more features and have a greater identity of impact, like currently many are annoyed at gardens, FC crafting, or whatever being locked behind the limited system, obviously getting a proper instanced system could fix that. But then, we could have 'more'. Like Wildstar did, or in some ways as I suggested earlier in the thread you might even consider it like Garrisons and Wild Star had a brain child. Also a dream desire of mine.

So I think most commonly I see for people it's like 1. Fix the limited supply, instanced housing so we have infinite supply (at least per human) 2. Empower whatever system you use so it doesn't feel like a conciliatory reward (like making apartments equal to ward houses in features and creative expression).

Then for myself, and some others, particularly those who've tasted the greener grass (which is greener, for housing systems at least- perhaps not for other things lol. Am here for a reason :P), is like 3. Add a way to control location either via multiple locations or via high powered customizations (like ESO vs Wild Star), and 4. Now that everyone can have one, add cool features to it, maybe it's not /mandatory/ but its gameplay backed value on top of emotional value.

For me it would be ideal to have wards like the current style as well as an instanced option with identical functionality. People who like the community aspect could get a ward house while not preventing people that just want gardening, stables etc without the limitations of apartments to get a private house too.
