The real kicker is gonna be when it turns out the 'gardening' isn't even something that will allow crossbreeding and instead is just for doing daily/weekly quests with special seeds. I'm calling it now.

They really needed to be specific from the onset what Island Sanctuary was. At this point, any player disappointment is entirely of the devs' own making sense they literally left the community to wildly speculate, which is often dangerous as many players will overhype content. Granted, I suspect their hesitation to be forthcoming isn't simply wanting to surprise us but some amount of reservation due to the horrendous reception of Blue Mage when it first released. Either way, they've now backed themselves into a corner. If Island Sanctuary doesn't land. There will be a LOT of backlash.
This could be a copy or variant of WOWs Halfhill farm, which i found was VERY enjoyable.Quote:
Likely a glorified retainer venture that you check once a day for crops and whatnot. Hopefully I'm wrong and it's more substantial than that.
Maybe the devs should have given us more information on this content instead of just saying that we should not get our hopes up. They maybe also shouldnt have put a house in that one picture of it. Instead of being strangely silent about it they could have simply confirmed that it has nothing to do with housing at all.
@OP: I think it will be something between it. I doubt its simply Doman Enclave 2.0. It takes too long for that. But I also really doubt that we get instanced housing with it. I would really love it but I dont see it happening. Right now I just want it to be an instanced place where minions run free and where we can plant some stuff. Maybe we might even design the landscape a bit. Being able to interact and maybe train our chocobos would be great too.
Hopefully its relaxing but also gives us good amount of content to do.
Whatever it ends up being, it better slap, because this has been in development for 3+ years. It's the reason we lost a deep dungeon for 5.x. If it turns out that resources were diverted and content was sacrificed for something that flops on release... oh it will be incredible. Unfortunately this is looking more and more like an inevitability, from the lack of information since the beginning to Yoshida now trying to soften the blow preemptively. Looks like I'll need some fireproof gear!
I'm sorry but "be patient" shouldn't be something that has to be said about basic knowledge over a major feature of this expansion. Don't be obtuse, you know that this is exactly what they were intending. They built hype by announcing it as one of the major features of the expansion that would drop at 6.0, and then went on to say nothing substantial about it. Instead they let us, knowing that it's been in development for so long, create our own hype around it because we had faith in them to deliver something crazy cool after 3 years of development. Now they're backtracking on how major it's going to be because the expectations were becoming too high and they know if they disappoint we won't take it lightly anymore. And people will be upset over the content being disappointing regardless of instanced housing pipe dreams.
Not instanced housing they're stated that. Those expecting it will be disappointed. Many of us are happy to wait for the reveal. Perhaps we'll get some news in the upcoming live letter.
Not being obtuse just pointing out how you should take things with grain of salt instead of a mountain of sugar. If you over Hype something you know nothing about then you deserve a platter full of disppointment!! Guess there are still gamers who have to learn that hardway.
Oh you better believe I no longer have faith in these devs to meet the hype. 6.0 had my faith hanging by a thread, and 6.1 took a sword to that thread. I can still recognize when they're trying to build expectations higher than they should be. This isn't about me, this is about the fact that their portrayal of the content and the reactions were fully intentional. I won't blame anyone for being disappointed, people have every right to be disappointed if this content that's been marketed as a major feature of the expansion ends up being a total flop. The expectations that have been built are that the content will be good, not that it'll be any specific kind of content, except for perhaps the particularly delusional crowd who swore up and down they KNEW it was instanced housing.
Gaming studios want people to be hyped though...they do everything to generate that. Just look at how trailers are often cut so that people discuss the stuff that they see in it. People trying to guess what the content might be is not a problem. Honestly for quite a few of us, the guessing might just be as fun as playing the content itself. Its only going to be a problem if something is overhyped and when people start to believe these overhyped points. BUT even here SE could jump in. Instead of being like "just keep your hopes down" they could have told us what they have planned for it. And what it will 100% not be. So if they never want housing with it then say so. There problem solved.
Maybe instead of calling those of us who disagree with your view children, just try to take the criticism that not everything is always the players fault and that SE has played a part in it.
The devs dont have an obligation to "meet your hype." Just because you got overly excited over something that didn't exist, when they told you not to, doesn't make them the bad guys. They only told you its a place for minions and farming. There might be some mild customization of farm themed buildings. Probably a stable for chocobos. Maybe even something similar to subs or airships.
The more you push that the devs “aren’t obligated” to make good content, the worse the content in this game is going to get. I suppose a community like this deserves that though.
Come to think of it, if island sanctuary was supposed to be a personal housing answer, wouldn't it kinda suck if you had to go through 120 hours of game to experience it?
I think introducing it sooner would be a good idea, like if you could put down some outdoor objects then level 15 seasonal events wouldn't feel like "get them to hold onto them" content like they do now for many players and would if Island Sanctuary was X expansions in, but you might bind certain features to the MSQ. Like with certain renown you're able to expand / etc. Perhaps at ShB once you get a touch of creation magic from the game you're able to make big changes to the island space like skybox, etc, such that if you wanted Amaurot style space you could (and the changes would be a bit lore-backed).
Disagree, I think getting your own island is something that should come with a fair bit of prestige as a prerequisite. Maybe for completing 2.0.
What I don't get is how this can be the same team after 1.0. This should not have reached this point. Lower expectations should not have been said. If someone comes to you and says hey this is whats going on. And yes they must have been given a heads up or we wouldn't have been given a response. Instead of shilling some merchandise like a two bit company, you put down what is going on. No it isn't housing, no you will not be able to use furniture or decorations, yes it is a private instance players have access to several already in game. We are working on a similar path as X (maybe enclave or maybe fairy dailies), there will be X feature at launch (if it is built around a certain thing it better be at launch). Said feature could be gardening or new type of daily, or just a showcase for minions and/or mounts. This is not that hard and if happens six months ago people sigh and go oh well and move on.
If (they aren't) trying to create instance housing. If said feature doesn't inhibit the other features don't mention it. If it pushes back implementation bend the truth like normal server limitations waiting new servers and stability check and re-announce.
CBU3 are too busy on FFXVI now, and have pulled most of the good staff over to that, leaving a bunch of contractors and interns for us.
And it really shows in stuff like the higher number of localisation error, reused assets, Hroth Karen hair, and dodgy assets. A lack of care and professionalism. Stuff like this:
