I think the plates are real neat but i have made exactly one and it keeps decoupling for no apparent reason and reverting to the default pose instead of the one I made and it is driving me crazy.

Been certainly a bit since I last logged in, tinkered with the adventurer plates a little bit and I pretty much am satisfied with this until they add more options! Made it as close to a tavern theme as possible because of my FC

Ha ha, I couldn't get my character to make quite the right smile so eventually I embraced it and just decided to make it an "imperfect selfie moment" where the camera snapped the shot at not quite the right time. I was channeling the amateurish nature of Selphie's home movie footage from the ending of Final Fantasy VIII.

how do you all get the lighting working so well, i cant for the life of me work out that directional lighting

When you edit your profile image, you have to tabs, one for the profile design, and one for the character image. In one of those are sliders for the light position and the light colour.
Additionally you can "sneak in" another lightsource if you have a shiny weapon and use a position where it is drawn. Then you can position yourself in a way that that weapon itself doesn't show up, only the glow and - ta da! new light source. :) Downside of this method is of course the limitation of the positions because rarely any of these show the weapon.

oh i know that, i've fiddled with the sliders there but cant work out how they work. Is it up/down? or vertical width? etc

I am not sure if my English vocabulary suffices with understanding the nuances of this question, but one slider of the directional light category moves the light source up and down, and the other one left an right, as far as I understood. I hope that helps...?
