Ah. I haven't looked at it too closely. Then again, I never saw it on males and I'm male now.
What's started to annoy me is that gear is very much reused among the Jobs. Like NIN gear will just be BRD/MCH/DNC gear but with the tail coats from say PLD/DRK/WAR/GNB. It's very lazy and very noticeable. It's bad enough that we have two magic sets, one for caster dps and one for healers and they're basically just one's black and the others white.
Also another set that's pathetic is the ShB PvP set. We got one, ONE god damn set of armor through out the entire expansion and they couldn't even make different looking sets for the dps.
Well it's clear there some problem beyond simple run out of ideas, they can use modern clothes. Then they got lots of good ones from what players made in the past. One problem I see is them going out of they're way to make hear not to crazy. Thing is we don't see me gear set any where. Not much new in lvl be it crafted or dungeon drop ,not from events and not even cash shop. Like when was the last cash shop set? Last event that got a set?
I just hope something changes. I said this in shadowbringers though, and thought the increase of earnings would change things but we actually got less so far this expansion so…i don’t know. Hard to be hopeful when i just constantly see it getting worse and worse.
I do agree with you in all honesty. I've been saying to my FC friends that way too much of this expansion is copy pasted reused assets compared to previous ones. Half of the tome gear is literally just one of the dungeon sets recoloured for example. It is really strange in an expansion that released a whole 5 months later than the usual schedule to be seeing this when it was never really the case before.
If I remember right, wasn't Yoshida and a few of his crew pulled away to work on 16?
Perhaps that along with Covid didn't allow them to put the effort into nice things they wanted while also telling the story they wanted with all the extra cut scenes and whatnot.
The money to make the really lengthy MSQ had to come from somewhere. /s but not really.
Honestly don't see the problem. Game has basically Infinite glamor choices already.
It has some of the best story and music so far and we have a lot of patches to go.
You also have a new pvp thing, islands, housing an ultimate with new stuff likely. Raid tier gear and next tombstone stuff and new crafted sets coming it's really not Doom and gloom with all the choices already on game.
Your already hard pressed to even hold all the stuff anyways.
Man I feel like these forums people make a mountain out of a mole hill. Obviously it got made during a pandemic your going to have some faults.
We have some of the best towns here since ARR.
We get less, and that's okay! /s
It really doesn't with role restrictions and getting the same gear for the same roles multiple times now. Also, with dye channels on gear being very limited and lots of things just dying strangely, many things just don't work together. Less is not more in this case, less is just less.
It's nice that you like the MSQ but the game needs a lot of little things to keep players interested for the months between a few cutscenes. Glams are one of those things.
For the amount of money you have to pay (monthly) the new content/updates are pretty much "miserable" I love this game but its already outdated in so many ways.
New expansion for 40 bucks but;
-No open world ( loading screens everywhere)
-No textures updates
-No new character creator (No new faces, accessories , hairs , tails , ears w.e )
-Nothing from ARR/HW/SB has changed, same zones.
-Old content gets nothing, not even an update for like .. a new zone or new NPCs, nothing Limsa/Gridania/Uldah have been exactly the same city since ARR.
-MSQ still not fully voiced.
-No cinematics outside of the trailer.
-Invisible walls everywhere.
This is hands down, by far, my biggest complaint about EW. ShB had a ton of unique gear, and was literally one of my standing points of quality over WoW when trying to convince my friends to come over. That point is not only just gone, it has been obliterated with EW.
Having almost no new cosmetics really....really hurts. Considering I care more about how I look, over how powerful I am in any game I've played.
I agree with this completely. Getting geared up in this game takes no time at all. And in a few months when the next patch comes you'll have to grind again for the new gear. Then again and again. And if you take time off or anything and miss a couple patches? That's okay, you can gear up just as quickly regardless of not playing for so much time while others have continued playing solidly.
So there's no gear chase or working towards getting stronger outside of the repeat cycle of tome grinding and/or raiding.
So what is there to work on outside that? Sure there are a bunch of classes to level, but it's all the same content over and over. Yeah you can craft or gather, but same thing goes there too.
One of the things that gives you reasons to go all over the place and participate in content across the span of the ENTIRE game and its content are the cosmetic options. It's the same reason people play Destiny 2 or Warframe. Cosmetics. Making your character look cool.
And that's one of the absolute biggest draws for me in FFXIV. I prefer roleplaying over the other content that I think is boring and formulaic(not to mention WAY too easy). And I crave cosmetics, housing items/houses, mounts, etc.
And this expansion cheaped out on pretty much everything other than having a ton of story that everyone will play through once, scratch their head over the insanity in it, and then move on.
It makes me sad how exactly right you are. And the fact that the rest of the community really loves the cosmetics. Here I was hoping that EW would expand on the glam storage, or reinvent it to be more like WoW's glam storage (Which is infinitely superior). Instead, we just got less of literally everything but story.
It's casual gearing in a largely casual MMO. Unless someone does Savage and Extreme trials regularly, they are probably gearing up this way. Welcome to FF XIV? Also, they did say that they would be looking into expanding the glamour dresser if they could at some point in the Endwalker patch cycle. That could mean soon or years from now, but it was mentioned. But yeah, storage is one of FF XIV's most glaring flaws in my opinion. That much I can agree with, and I hope it gets addressed sooner rather than later.
I do hope they intend to make versions of the Vanaspati glams that are not job-locked considering that we mostly see civilians wearing them.
That would be nice but i’m not holding my breath. I expected them at least to role swap gear they’re reusing and they can’t even do that. Taking off job locks for some glams just seems out of the question for some reason it’s crazy. We make so much money and have such an influx of players yet somehow this is the expansion with the worst of it when it comes to reusing assets and glams. Where’s our money going? The one time done msq?
That was also something that disappointed me, I was looking forward to new dungeon sets but it was all recolours so I was not impressed at all. The story is still a 10/10 for me but I lost that hype of oh new dungeon new glam that I had in other expansions.
I'm generally pretty okay with gear re-use, especially when it offers something new like switching roles (since they refuse to allow to cross class glam) or different dye patterns or something. That said, I agree this expansion seems excessive so far.
Hopefully the new gear in the raid patch is nice, at least.
They mostly stopped taking racial features into account, we get tons and tons of reused gear, they don't role swap the reused gear, quality control seems to be all over the place, and the reaper form is universal and removes all racial features of the various races - a full on job, not even just glamour. You actually can't make it up. Please, for the love of God SE, with the increased success can we please see the quality of the game actually increase as well?
Out of the 8 new dungeons and new crafting recipes we got in total negating AF and Moonward:
2 new sets….literally only 2. We’ve gotten more sets from freaking patches! 81 and 87 recycles crap from Swallows compass and Hero’s Gauntlet and there isn’t even any 89 loot.
80 is From Gymlit dark
82 is from Shire tomes
84 Is From sunken city of Skalla
86 is atrocious from PVP of all resources
88 is Neo ishgardian
This is hella appalling, blame Covid all you want, they delayed this twice to try to give us the best product, yet it’s all familiar
Yep, this is basically my entire point. People continue blaming covid for the lack of content but they literally delayed this game SEVEN MONTHS, specifically so that things would be done. Instead we got an expansion with the least amount of unique gear sets, but not only that they even reused a damn dungeon theme for one of the expert dungeons. I really wish people would notice that we’re slowly getting less over time despite the game getting more successful. Remember when samurai and red mage got 50/60/70 primal weapons on release? Yeah Gnb and Dnc got 2. Sage and Reaper don’t have any so far. Where is all that effort going cuz it’s clearly not on gear. This really needs to be brought to attention and get some raised awareness because something just doesn’t add up. More money and more players=less content?
The thing that really bugs me with the recycled sets isn't just that they're recycled, but recycled without a single instance of shuffling which gear models go to which roles.
Shadowbringers has a lot of recycled gear too, from memory, but it still felt exciting. Aiming got those two healer gearsets I wanted for my dancer! Caster got the tank coat from the Arboretum! A whole list of new things per class even though the models were already in the game.
Here it's just multiple rounds of "that thing I could already equip, in a different colour". Which is sometimes an exciting thing in itself, but not for every single tier of reused gear in the whole expansion.
And we didn't get anything at all from either the level 89 or 90 dungeons. Just recycled Omega jewellery.
To be fair, it was the winner of a costume design contest for melee DPS, so it's not exactly strange for all the melee DPS to get that design.
Overall the gear series has three outfit designs (melee, tank/ranged, mages) which is all we ever get except in rare circumstances.
The Vanaspati/Palaka gear is basically seven variants of a single design already. Different sleeves, different lengths but all the same core top and pants.
Covid is a piss poor excuse people hide behind to mask shitty work. Sorry to be blunt but it's true, if this were 1995 I could buy covid as an excuse but it's not it was 2019-2021 where we have a plethora of programs to use. Programs that let you talk to 1000 people at once, screen share, hell you can control peoples computers from another when you're on the other side of the planet so the idea that covid is to blame in this line of work is laughable.
I expect a lot more and for them to do a lot better going forward in terms of gear. EW has shown me just how lazy they've been not only with the current expac but all the previous ones as well.
Yeah this needs to be said. The people who keep using this excuse over and over again just seems deluded tbh. Using it as a deflection to avoid criticism for their beloved game lol. Fact is the game is far from perfect and each expansion it seems like we get less when we should be getting more.
They also reuse models for enemies and only some bosses have unique models. I think the 3 new trials do but I could be wrong. But I do recognize the models instantly for overworld enemies or quest enemies like the healer role quest level 90 had a level 90 titan model. I get that the models are different enough and game development is hard and this is probably the smartest route to take but it has never been any different in any expansion. Now that we are at the end... it won't change and neither will the reuse of gear sets.
The thing is, it’s never been this bad, and we should be seeing it less considering the game is making more and more money, and is getting more players. Instead we’re seeing the opposite which is lazy devs. I guess this is what happens when you don’t have competition though and you have a fan base that worships you and denies all criticism. You can afford to be lazy and give less.
I just realized today that male viera got the same hempen underwear that midlander males get.
And the recolors arguably dye significantly worse than the originals. The recolor of the Bonewicca caster set is atrocious as the embellishments of the top are silver while the pants's embellishments are gold. And that set dyes shimmery instead of matte like the original which completely kills off what little works with it.
Here's to another 3 years of using the same 4 Stormblood pieces of glamour gear that I have been using since 4.1
Other than Neo-Ish (as it was so recent).
This one is the most annoying because that's the third Shire gear now. Remember Anamnesis gear was also Shire.
Skallic I understand. As farming that dungeon was always cancer with the low drop rate. That's the one some were glad to get a recolor of.
Female Viera and male Hrothgar are in the same situation (with female Midlander and male Roegadyn body models respectively) and I gather it's because they're just modifying the bodies from those to begin with.
Interesting (and rather disappointing) to hear that male Viera have Midlander gear though. I was certain it was going to be Miqo'te, but then their previous awful posture was from that model as well, so maybe instead of trying to re-pose it they just ditched it entirely and started over again with the Midlander model.
I still haven't started my Viera alt but I was looking forward to using the Miqo'te hempen top on him (not all the time but for something) because it's a kind of cool design that neither of my Miqo'te characters would wear. Bah.
It's not quite that bad, and we do have another... 5 dungeons, 3 raid tiers, 3 tome tiers, 5 crafted glamours, 1 PVP... most of which at least by precedent should be new designs.
Still, there's not much I'm feeling like I can upgrade with at the moment.
On the dye recolourings, one that did come off much better is the female version of the Neo-Ishgardian striking top. The original version has an undyeable blouse in a rather unflattering pink, but now it changes colour. A lot of the colour schemes feel "off" though, at least the pieces I played around with.
I would have liked to see the designs reassigned to different groups though.
