The real question is why you're unironically using reddit...
why do you care if some person in a game, is offender by your characters? Who cares, the topic is a none-issue.
I remember that my Mentor in the Novice Network was like "But, why...?. Why do you want more than 1 character?". And i told her that, I really need to check the races, in order to find the "right" race for me. Some races are really awesome in terms of animations.
For example: So far, for melee, Fem Highlander is the best!. Second to Roegadyn male. I still have to try Lalafel, Au Ra, Viera and Hrothgar. Fem Roegadyn is also another one, that i still have to try.
Female Elezen is a nice character for Knight (Gladiator/Paladin) and Casters.
If i was you, my reply to people who question me irl and in game, is to question me, you must stand on my level- your inability to comprehend my decision is your failure- reply same to anyone and you will go far, and have less head ackee. That or just ignore them
I am not offended at people who have alts, lol thats pretty dumb. I dont care what anyone else does with their time/account. BUT THAT SAID, I could never imagine making an alt. I am very emotionally attached to my character. The way he looks, his name, who he is, etc. I used the free phantasia at the end of ARR as a joke and quickly changed back down to every last feature my character had originally. I can't imagine ever needing or wanting an alt for me personally.
Maybe, i think they get mad, because they think you are going to play that alt and do EVERYTHING again. While you are actually playing that alt to reach certain level (In my case level 50) and be done with it.
The only reason for me to get that alt to 80 is because i really like the character, otherwise, i would leave him there, just to serve as a mule, trader or gatherer, etc. I even like having alts just for the sake of having a character that fits certain "fantasy role", for example: A female Warrior or Male evil DRK.
I mostly make alts to replay MSQ then delete them.
Why do I have 4 alts (in addition to my main) that I haven't deleted? Because I became attached to them for various reasons while I didn't get attached to the dozen or so others I've deleted.
It is possible to get attached to more than one character.
Sounds fake. How do you know they scream? Adding a bunch of question marks probably only means they're confused, not angry. Someone told you that you don't need alts? A little bit weird, but not offending at all unless they curse at you or being rude.
Reddit is reddit, but honestly I've been there for three years and I never see a comment being downvoted for saying "I have alts".
I don't think the OP or anyone else in this thread who has alts actually cares. We're just commiserating about something common we see. People ask the question and the underlying meaning is "I don't think you should have alts and my opinion should matter to you on the topic."
And it really doesn't. We have alts because we want to have alts for whatever reason. It's nobody else's business but like a lot of things in life, other people think they should get a seat at the table just because they are offended or disagree with something.
I want to be Naruto Cloudstrife on every server! Duh
I have a problem with alts because I can't wrap my head around it that the same person is a different person now. I have a friendship with that Viera, not that Elezen. And it gets worse the more alts the person plays. Plus I get confused with the names.
I never tell someone to stop playing alts. But don't expect me to know who you are or act like we are friends when you are on your alt, lol. For me you are a different person now.
Alts are just uncanny.
misunderstanding the need to have alts is not the same as denial
as well, not caring or not understanding is not the same as being personally offended
so you have alts, you brought it to a forum where people will generally express opinions not your own, not sure what you expected lol. I am personally not offended, just never found a need for them since its not like its easy to share storage space. you do you, thats all anyone can really expect.
I've had a couple friends who (separately) reacted very much the way people sometimes will when you express a love for food they find disgusting. Their feeling about alts seemed to boil down to "Why would you want to do THAT if you don't absolutely have to?" It's been awhile but I'm pretty sure the very first thing one of them said was "You don't need alts". It wasn't judgemental, we came from FFXI where (at the time anyway) they were almost a necessity, but it's a little awkward when someone is in a rush to let you know how great it is that you no longer need to do this thing....that you really love doing.
It was kind of funny though because I feel pretty much the same about both of their play style. Rushing through everything to get to the next thing. That's incompatible with my idea of fun, lol.
They mean how some people in this thread are saying no one ever gets upset or offended by someone having alts and that isn't true. It does happen. I've seen the sentiment on this forums when the subject comes up. Some are like you where it's "I don't get it, but I'm cool" but some are "I don't get it, I don't like it, and you're wrong for doing it".
Because some people have an ego more fragile than a piece of glass. If you all do is compare yourself based on metrics and numbers, you'll eventually end up insane. People of that kind only live for attention and can't grasp that the world does not revolve around them. It's either that or simply the fact you can level all jobs on one character, might be a case of curiosity too.
