Never had dx11 launch issues until the day 5.5 launched. I tried everything. What finally worked for me was a combination of reinstalling the game and opening the ffXIV.cfg file and changing the Screenmode from "0" to "2" for borderless windowed.
After changing back to windowed mode and shutting down my pc and rebooting this morning, i got Dx11 errors again. Changing the .dfg file to be Screenmode 2 for a second time fixed the launch issue.
Helo!
I have the same problem. And today looking for a solution in a group on Facebook, I saw that more people with the same problem.
We tried to help each other, but we couldn't solve it.
We tried to reinstall the game. Update everything. To set up. Clean. Everything.
The problem started while I was flying for a mission. Since then, after selecting the character, the game closes.
I tried to create a new character and the game opened. I can't understand what's going on.
I would love a solution from Square Enix.

Hello, I'm having the same issue I get to the character select screen and my game just randomly closes out I tried fresh reinstall and everything but still closes out. The couple times I was able to make it online I got errors for dx 11. I tried changing it to dx 9 to see if it was an 11 error only but it's not. I don't know what else to do I can't play the game at all.
I had a little hope that 5.5 could have resolved this issue for me somewhat, since it was when 5.45 dropped that I started having dx11 errors in Bozja Southern Front mainly, and other places more frequently as well, but alas, nothing has changed.
Yesterday I had to fiddle with my configuration for half an hour to try and be able to login and teleport away at least. Funnily enough, switching to Fullscreen mode did the trick this time.
Again, from the lowest graphics settings to the highest, it did not matter what I set it as. These dx11 errors are wayy too arbitrary to pinpoint them to any kind of thing in my view.
At least it has not gotten worse so far, that's a good thing, right? Right? :(
Same here.

:(
Same here.
I get thoese dx11 crashes and can't log in.
It allways needs a few logins until I can login again.
Once while porting to Gridania and one time in the center of crystarium....
i am also experiencing the same issue, it made it so i couldn't participate in firmament fetes. now i am unable to log back on AT ALL since as soon as i try to load into the game it crashes
Got that to with another char.
Couldn't log in for two days with that char.
I deinstalled FFXIV and installed it over night.
That worked for that char.
I will see it today evening after work if the crashes come back :/
I have been having these dx11 issues since I began playing this game over a month ago. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to when and why they happen. I could be playing for 3 plus hours and not get one but then get a whole string every 2 to 3 min. I have tried multiple recommendations from multiple sources to try and resolve the issue. From what I can say is that its most likely not on our side. That being said I don't believe the devs have any intention of working towards a resolution on this. As there is no response to these threads except for the same cookie cutter "try this out", which never seems to work for anyone.
It is a frustrating game breaking issue that makes me want to flip my desk over in rage. I want to enjoy this game but this is making it very hard to do so. I have 20 days left of my sub. Unfortunately I know I'm probably talking to a wall as no SE employee will ever read any of this. The frustration of this issue isn't worth a monthly fee to me.
Got mine fixed. I just borrowed a working copy of the game. Just overwrite (or delete/uninstall the non working folder where the game is installed) it with a working copy (from someone you know). Not sure if this will work with everyone, so might as well as back up the original copy of the game.
Not going to let this thread die. Having the same. Same as everyone.
Update from me. After running out of stuff I wanted to do yesterday, I decided to back up my settings and stuff and uninstall the game to redownload it for the third time.
I had low expectations from the beginning, since, didn't help the last two times, however, when it was done and ready to go again, I immediately hopped on to test it out.
Normally I would get a crash as soon as I got near a Skirmish in Bozja Southern Front, I was pretty surprised when it did not crash. After 15 minutes with no issues there I decided to go to the North Shroud, where these crashes sort of started/were most common.
After flying around like crazy for another 15 minutes (it was pretty late and I was very tired), still no crash! Normally I would have had a bunch of crashes in the North Shroud, especially around Fallgourd Float.
So I am hoping that this third reinstallation of the game fixed my errors, because I have not had one so far today, which has not happened in a long time. It could also just be a coincidence.
I am halfway sure they will return at some point, but I am quite happy about this situation right now.
After coming back to play the game with the new patch, I was first hit with being dropped to desktop with no error message when trying to enter Sigmascape specifically. Reinstalling fixed that issue until I decided to get caught up on my edenverse questline, the game crashed me with this error after beating the boss and it loading up the cinematic, logged back in, finished and left the raid instance. Then when talking to the quest npc it goes to load a cinematic again and boom, the same error happened again. Only thing thats changed about my hardware is reinstalling on a fresh SSD but even then didn't get any issues otherwise until this latest patch.

The only crash I've been getting is the DirectX Error (11000002). And I don't know how to fix it.
Kinda new to the game, WoW refuge.. and no matter how much I hated Blizzard -- I have to admit that their overall service was more up to date, from forums, UI, engine, and the list goes on. It's quite sad that I keep getting these errors lately, it has quite literally ruined my experience with the game multiple times. Not to mention that the game should have DX12 support by now, having quite terrible performance with AMD cards.
p.s. and just FYI, Nvidia performs better with DX11 CPU-bound games such as FFXIV.
1. I'm using an Nvidia card and still have constant crashes.
2. Can't let this tread die!
3. It seems like there are a lot of other threads like this one on the forum too. Glad to see SE is working hard to fix this game breaking issue.
DX crashes several times a day, never use to have this issue. Since I came back it happens constantly.
Third day. So far the reinstalling the game seems to make it playable until I hop off the first time, come back to it the next day, then, specifically when loading into a raid, trial and now area it will just drop me to desktop. Todays problem is the Tempest. I'm starting to think you guys need to invest into some way for the launcher to scan the install for corrupted or badly installed files and repair.
Quick question for the thread: Are you running it from a HDD or SSD?
This just started happening for me today. It seems to only pop up when I'm in a dungeon which is odd because I ran my dailies yesterday with no issues.
I haven't had any updates to windows in the past 24 hours or updates to anything else pop up. I'm just fine outside of dungeons but a minute or two after I enter a dungeon (daily, random, or explore) I get hit with

I have been having this issue since October, ontop of other issues. Even after having a new laptop, upgraded graphics card, and reinstalling the game twice now I am still having this same issue. It's beyond frustrating that SE hasn't been able to address this yet when its been going on for months now. I have been doing everything people are suggesting to do and I am still getting the same errors and crashes from it. Love the game but this makes me just want to throw my computer against a wall ><
I've been getting fatal directx errors recently. I've had a few in the past, but they were very few and far between each other. Since 5.5 update, I've had these crashes trigger very consistently. It started with cutscenes. It would trigger very consistently during the MSQ cutscene after Paglth'an, when Nanamo would start talking. It also happend in the short cutscene after I reached lv100 PotD and killed the final boss.
I tried numerous things to try to fix the issue: changing settings, update drivers, reinstall, but nothing worked.
Today, I was running Tsuki EX with some FC mates, and when we killed her I crashed again during the following cutscene. We ran it again, and this time I crashed when she transitioned to her final phase. Ran it again, this time crashed some 30 seconds into the fight. Went to the inn in Kugane, and went to test some setting with the cutscenes, and now I crash just from logging into the game while my character is getting out of bed.
I've also tried Dx9, and tbh it runs worse. The game stutters, and graphics bug out, and it still crashes.
The only luck I have had is resetting the system settings via the launcher, but changing any of the window sizes, regardless of fullscreen, borderless, or windowed, seems to quicken the rate of the crash.
Tbh, I'm not sure what to do. I am currently trying to redownload the game again to see if that fixes anything.
EDIT:
Problem persists after reinstall. Turning down the graphics to Standard(Desktop) helps some, but I really can't do much with out it crashing. Can't even run a dungeon without crashing at every pull. I have noticed that my GPU is frequently hitting 100% usage when playing, maybe that is a factor?
EDIT 2:
It looks like the frequent crashing has also been happening to other games. Perhaps it is my graphics card going bad? It is like 5 years old...
Since last update on this Thursday, I have similar DX11 crashes :(
Just so I can hopefully establish a common thread here, how are people running the game? Steam? PC? Console? Through the native drive or an external? etc.
The game is constantly crashing. No errors, just crashes or reboots. Crashes only at DX11. At DX9, it works fine. Everything is fine with the temperature, with the memory and SSD, too. I reinstalled the game 2 times.
Are you reinstalling it to the same drive? I actually noticed an earlier post how someone copied someone else's "working" game folder was their fix and attempted a parallel installation on my C drive, since I usually run off my SSD external.
It turns out my own problem was that there were corruptions somewhere within the executable or supporting file structure. So deleting the "bad" folder and replacing it with the "good" one that I installed completely separate on my default drive, after testing the "good" one on said default drive, fixed my issues.
Try that and see if it stabilizes things for you. Hope otherwise you get your fix soon.
Just had the weirdest crash on my alt character, and I finally experienced the DX11 crash as well.
Game stopped recognizing me as a playable character, and marked me as an NPC. I also could see all MSQ quests that would occur in the near vicinity to myself.

After like five minutes of this, I experienced the DX11 crash.

Edit: bear in mind on this character I've yet to meet alphinaud and tataru.
Hello everyone. I was experiencing a lot of DX11 and DX9 crashes as well as BSOD. Mainly with FFXIV and AC Valhalla. I tried everything I could to find the cause. I changed drivers, reinstalled windows, reinstalled FFXIV. Non of it worked. I was contemplating quitting FFXIV since it was almost unplayable. I ran across a thread somewhere that mentioned that it could be a CPU issue. I did some testing of my CPU which was a Ryzen 5 3600 and found that 1 of the cores was not working properly and causing some errors. I replaced my CPU with a Ryzen 9 5900X and I haven't had a single crash on any game. I know that isn't what's wrong with everyone's PC but don't overlook a possible dying CPU as the cause.
Updating, though at this point and with the amount of dx error threads it's pretty obvious that the NA GMs either don't care or don't have the rank to communicate this issue to the devs.
After 2 months of not running DR at all I thought the issue had fixed itself, I was able to play for hours on end and even leave the game running and come back to 0 crashes. But with the new relic step, I went back to do Bozja, DR and Zadnor and the crashes came back at the 1-2 hour mark. Just stepping into any of these zones is enough to trigger a crash after 1-2 hours, even if I immediately step out and go to my house or another area.
So after turning my 2nd monitor off and running it full screen I have not had a single DX 11000002 error in 140 hours of game play. Before I was getting at least one crash every 5 hours (once per evening). It looks like I fixed the issue myself.
To recap I am also running as the following spec - even though I got crashes with the below config. - Turning my 2nd monitor off really made the difference.
Running no extra gfx mods
Nvidia drivers v466.27
Windows 10 build 20H2 (19042.985)
1440p resolution on a gsync 144Hz monitor
Gsync turned on
Steam and discord and nvidia overlays disabled
Hardware Specs
RTX 3090
32GB DDR4 RAM
Ryzen 9 5950x
