Saying there is stuff to do in FFXIV's overworld is a huge overstatement.

Better question is when will fans turn off Yoshi-P
A guide on how to kill your game in one easy step!
This will never happen. SE knows that the "Second Life" players are the ones that are still subscribed to the game through Endwalkers' extreme content drought, while Mods/DC Travel is what's keeping savage raiding going almost 5 months later (and why this game even has a raiding scene in the first place).
I will say that one thing WoW has kind of gotten right since Legion (maybe less so in Shadowlands) is the ability to draw people to particular areas for a certain period of time of the day, like via Assaults etc. Hunts and FATEs dont have the same kind of gravity and duration as a particular area being bombarded by an invasion for a few hours with either certain objectives to be done for higher level gear or even for accelerated EXP rates (even if its only like doing objectives for a big chunk of exp once per assault type).
Depends on your perspective. They were aware of this problem and added some things to the open world to give you things to do back in ARR and have continued to add it in each expansion:Which added to the already existing open world content:
- Hunts (hunt trains, chance-based S rank spawn conditions, hunt board hunting)
- Treasure maps
- Sightseeing logs
It's not necessarily nothing. Like always, just because you don't engage with content doesn't mean that it doesn't exist or isn't fun for many people. These activities are extremely popular and done by lots of people.
- FATEs
- Gathering nodes
- Beast tribe quests
- Quests generally
FATEs are farmed for relics, beast tribes and gemstones and boss FATEs like Odin for their rewards. At lower levels, sprouts do FATEs for leveling because they don't know much about the game yet. Gathering and S rank spawning can be a rabbit hole of their own. Beast tribes take you to certain zones daily for the daily quests. You see map parties all the time if you fly around areas enough and hunt trains are pretty common as well if you wait in an area for up to several hours.
Could it be better or have more? Sure, but it's wrong to say there is nothing just because you don't personally engage with it or enjoy it.
Dude did an amazing job turning the game around, but now days he is too set in his way, too unwilling to try new things, too secure to add new features that are meaningful group content.
If he can't continue to grow the way the game needs, then it may be time for him to step aside for a new dev so he can continue on to other projects, maybe continue on with the mainline series of FF games.
I don't hate him never will, but i dont think he is all powerful and without flaws.
The game has to grow, and for that to happen the staff has to grow with it.
Already turned on him when he ruined Monk and Paladin.
May 24th 2025. I got that from reliable sources.
Have you looked at the Japanese forums and/or social media platforms? They have different ways of going about it, but they roast the dude just as much as we do. The vocal portion Japan's player-base is not pleased with the current state of affairs. So nah, I don't think he listens to them either.
I don't think Yoshi-P listen to any of the players on what they want.
