Petition: Don't implement Content Finder!

If we have to have a content finder I wish it wouldn't be cross-server.
I would be interested to see something work only within the server.
I would rather make friends here. I won't bother talking to those from other servers who I may end up liking then won't get to be friends with. I would rather see our server community socializing and helping each other.

So we'd get to play with our communities.. and then when the content is perhaps less popular people still have an easy time finding others. I like it. Server first, then others for back up later.

This is almost as bad as the anima removal NPC thread lololol

It makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside when someone makes one of those "petition against [x]" or "implement this now!!!1" threads, thinking they have a great idea, only to have the entire community make them look like a complete idiot, because in reality their idea is terrible. Seriously. It brightens up my day. Especially since I see it coming 99% of the time.

If this is anything like the one in wow, FFXIV will become a lets sit in town and Queue, exploring the world and playing the game is to much work, so in town we craft and use it as a chat room while we wait for the game.

It is the stupiest thing in the world. Players never leave town in wow they don't do anything but sit on their mounts and fly back and forth from the AH to the bank. If there is going to be a Content search at least make people run out to the content. Thank you for reading.

What would be the difference between using the content finder and sitting in town /sh for "LFM <insert dungeon/raid here> need tanks/DD's/healers pst"? At least with the content finder you can leave town while searching or trying to find one to join. W/O it your grounded in town waiting.

Part of the problem is, when you go and form parties with players on your server, it builds community, you know your players, you know their skill, you know who they are, you know if they are jerks or whatnot. When you group of with random players, a lot of players don't care how they act, are complete jerk because they figure they will never see you again. They vote kick if you question then and most of the time the vote is passed because people don't care they just want to hurry up and get it over with. You want to play with a good community, and to build this I would stick with players from my own server.

The immersion aspect is also important, it is kind of lame when your Queue pops and you just appear in the instance ready to fight and get gear. In wow so many people have no idea where instances are any more, they know if they just press the dungeon finder button they get easy loot. When you don't get auto teleported around players explore the world.
MMOs are like theme parks, and if they have an option that lazy players are willing to skip to save some time, the world becomes a lot smaller to them.

They are cheated themselves out of the MMO experience by not playing the game because they are "too lazy".


I hope that makes sense I do understand a content find is what a lot of mmos are moving toward, in theory it is good, but in practice it stagnates the world.

It does make sense and I do agree with you mostly on those aspects. But the FF community is not like WoW's, most of us tend to be more cultured and mature. Just because WoW content finder is how it is doesn't mean FFXIV's will be the same. There can be options to check to join a fresh raid or enter one thats already in progress. Maybe they can implement a sort of log to display that raids progress etc... WoW is the fast food of MMO's thats why it is how it is, but it doesnt mean FFXIV and other MMO's will be like that if they implement similar things such as the content finder.

If SE added something like realID we could chat cross server and party up again if we felt like it.

Technology is always moving forward and new cross server techniques are being found, its down to SE how far they want to take this idea.

Screw some stupid content finder. You know what content finder is? It's a tool for scrubs and losers who have no friends and are too anti social to join a decent linkshell to still be able to go on a dungeon run. If your life is that bad you need to fing do something besides play a game you obviously fail at.

Seriously I absolutely refuse to run dungeons with randoms. Why in the hell would I want a feature that pairs me up with randoms from another server? Add it to the game if you want, but don't be surprised if you get laughed at for using it. And defintely don't qq about all the scrub parties you get from it.

Its kinda funny how something such as a content finder will mess somebodies day up so bad they have no choice but to get all nerd rage about it in a forum.. Its amazing how an online video game and aspects of it can effect somebodies real life emotions like that lmao.. So your saying that you would like to be placed in a dungeon queue with no idea who your getting paired up with? Even if you actually wanna complete whatever content your queing for? Even if people use content finder just to troll other servers because they are bored and play bad on purpose? Even though you might literally get paired with the 7 most idiotic people in the universe?

I guess if your a masochist then you might enjoy that. Personally I would rather invite people I KNOW on my server, who I have at least partied with before, or something, and even if they aren't that great can invest some time into helping them improve. Randoming with possible derps that i might never see again to clear dungeon x is not my idea of fun.

These are things that are not unique to a content finder. You can run across all of these people by playing on your own server as well. You can kick them, you can leave, or you can try to educate them; same as you would without cross-realm play. Are you that much of a cynical, anti-social clod that you can't take the occasional bad player in your groups? How do you function in real life, man?

And what would stop you from doing that with content finder implemented? It's not like they're throwing out the current ways of finding groups.

I like the concept of a content finder. Ever spent 1+ hours just trying to find 4 people for a quest that literally takes minutes to accomplish? Or tried gathering 8 people for an af run that also would be finished within a couple of minutes? Did you ever ask for help in all your linkshells and received no answer, not even a "sorry, no time", because everyone is too occupied with his own stuff to help you? I've had way too much of it~ Having to beg and wait most of your playtime every day is... mildly said annoying. I do prefer some events with people i know, but between those , i just want to play.
It won't change the community as much as you think by the way. It is really hard to get order into a group of strangers, and it's way easier to accomplish things with your own team. Random groups will be more likely to fail in grand fights. Players will always prefer the company of their friends and linkshell mates over strangers from elsewhere, whenever the opportunity arises.

No I haven't. But then again I have a good Linkshell with a wide range of members in different time zones that are online a lot and don't mind helping others. I recommend you find one of those after the merge.

Content finder for me would be used to fill spots that I couldn't find a 7th or 8th person for.

You are right that I would always choose Linkshell and Friends before using a content finder, yes thats just common sense, but in some situations maybe I can't find a full party or nobody is on at the time I'm playing.

In WoW I used to get as many Guild members together and then join the Content Finder to find the last person/s, not everyone wants to wait around for 3-4 hours shouting Ul'dah ya know.

P.s. I wasn't really replying to what you said, more the way you said it.

Edit:- Oh yea I forgot to mention that not all random players are nubs, every time I shout in Ul'dah there is a high chance I could meet an idiot player.

I think content finder. As well as other such tools are a very good idea. I think one thing that sucked about XI was trying to find people to do things with. tools such as these help get rid of that bad building block.

I think the main isssue here is either low server population or lack of decent social skills. Because seriously... I have one linkshell. ONE. We help each other out. We stay up late or don't sleep sometimes to help members out. Is there no linkshell like that on your servers? If so that is sad indeed. You really need to look around and try to find a helpful LS. As far as needing an 8th for something... at least if you find that person on YOUR SERVER you can befriend them and they can join your shell and come with you regularly. Why would you want to pick up some completely random person from server x and HOPE that A) They speak your language, B)Have a Job/Class you need, C)Are not a total idiot who happened to wonder into someones house and is facerolling the keyboard, D) Have stable neough connection to not DC during whatever...etc??????

I cannot possibly comprehend why anyone would want to subject themselves to the plethera of crap that is more likely to wrong then right.

Current searches already allow you to filter by language spoken and class; why would it be any different for content finder? Can you not wrap your shriveled pea brain around these ideas?

In my time playng WoW (yes I know I mention this game far too much) I met plenty of friendly and capable people using content finder, sure there were bad eggs also but you just take the rough with the smooth.

You sound like a capable person.. Friendly not so much.. I'm not sure I would want to be stuck in a party with someone barking orders at me, I've had that happen a few times, its just as bad as someone who can't play for shit.

There are issues, you're right. However if you don't want to deal with any of that, as I'm sure you don't, then you simply don't use it. I know I don't even like randoms on my own server so I stick with my LS. I'm fortunate enough to be in a good, active LS. Not everyone is. That said, I simply wouldn't ever use the content finder, however its existence does not detract from my enjoyment of the game.

It would be there for those who want to use it or take those chances. It is an option and as long as it is not forced upon anyone, it being there isn't hurting anyone.

The things you are describing are the worst-case scenarios. You're just as likely to get someone who does speak your language, has the class/job you need, is a competent player and not a complete asshole. That is the reality of dealing with people in general, there are a lot of unknowns. Can't damn everyone because of a few people though.

No, I have a basic grasp on the English language, so I can generally tell what someone means when they say something. It's not difficult.

Maybe you can wrap YOUR shriveled pea brain around this: What's stopping me from selecting that I speak EN, JP, FR, etc...? Becuase that is what the search goes by: What each individual CLAIMS as languages they speak. Just because you use search for say EN players, doesn't mean they all speak EN. They may only think they know enough to get by.

In FFXI I flagged myself as EN/JP for search because it helped me get parties during JP peak hours. I didn't speak a lick of JP. But if that flag wasn't up I wouldn't have gotten those invites.

And furthermore: some content requires one person to have multiple classes/jobs. The search function isn't that good.

Next time why don't you think before you type. maybe you won't make yourself look like an idiot when try to talk down to someone who already thought three steps ahead of you.

How is this a content-finder unique problem? You can do this now and suffer the consequences later when you get in a group.

Are you saying it's also impossible that with the content finder, the search system will be re-done to allow you to flag multiple classes that you want to use (hint: WOW lets you do this)? Are you saying that they'd implement the content finder with everything as-is? Are you that dumb?

As for finding the right LS - if it was that simple, people wouldn't need those search functions. But i've played enough different MMo's to know that there's always a big percentage that just can't find a place for themselves.

I have been reading these forums every day for a few months now. After 1.21, I finally resubscribed to the game (quit shortly after launch). After reading this thread, I finally felt so compelled to respond that I set up my forum account and am making my first post! :)

First of all, I want to say that I don't understand why everyone gives Rokien such a hard time. I've read a ton of his threads and honestly agree with most of them - not all, but most. He's just trying to get his opinion out there people. We all know the devs have an uncanny inclination to incorporate player feedback, so out of all the MMOs I've played I think this is definitely the most important place to make your voice heard! Besides, there's nothing wrong with desiring immersion in your gaming experience, and YES things like Anima and Content Finder DO INDEED hurt the immersion factor.

All that being said, I love the concept of Content Finder. It really is a staple of the modern MMO and it should be included in FFXIV as well. HOWEVER, they need to be very careful how it's implemented imho.

Primarily, my concern would be that automatically porting from town (or wherever) straight to the dungeon/instance/whatever absolutely destroys the immersion and lore of the world...it just doesn't make any sense! I would prefer to just be able to find a group, then {Gather Together} the old fashioned way. Even cross server, perhaps we would just get a dedicated chat channel with the other members, then be able to form a party once we reach the instance. MAYBE they could help this factor by having some sort of MAS - Moogle Adventuring Society - whose members across Eorzea seek to help us find friends with whom to adventure! Just let them know what you would like to do and they will do their best to locate others, using their extensive communication network, then tap into your aether and send you all to the location in question. Maybe this would be a cool way to keep the concept of anima, but move it away from its current focus (you can only utilize the MAS direct-portal a limited number of times). Oh lord, now I'm rambling...:)

ANYWAY tl;dr, OF COURSE it's good to help us find groups and experience content in a more streamlined fashion. Nobody agrees with this more than me, with a busy schedule and limited playtime. But at the same time, I would not want to go the WoW route where I recently leveled a new character to 60 with my wife WITHOUT EVER LEAVING EXODAR (after lvl ~20 of course). This is just lame and personally does not inspire my sense of adventure whatsoever.

I also think the content finder should incorporate lots of additional functionality, like being able to specify a specific zone or quest for LFP. Like, I'm seeking experience points party in Nophica's Wells, or I'm seeking a party for Parley on the High Ground, etc.

I dislike the idea of content-finder aswell.
The counter "dont use it if you don't like it" doesn't work that easily...
If all ppl using this system you dont have another choice but to use it.
