What special treatment was I asking for again?
A lot of people have issues that they need to deal with on a daily basis. Most people just don't bring them up unless strictly necessary and even then those disinclined to avoid oversharing are liable to keep such things quiet. It's starting to wear a bit thin for me these days. I absolutely sympathise with players who have various issues that they need to deal with and obstacles to overcome. Yet at the end of the day it isn't reasonable for them to expect special treatment at every possible turn. Often it isn't even personal - if someone is not pulling their weight in a group then it's absolutely fine for the other members to decide to not invest further time and energy into that individual.
It isn't necessarily something related to disabilities in particular. Players without disabilities are treated the exact same way if things go awry and they're identified as the weakest link. I'm not seeing where the 'contempt' is coming into play into all of this.
I'm not the one conflating people who are bad at the game with disabled people. No matter what you say to me, I am not ever going to be so low as to assume that just because somebody is not doing well, that they are mentally disabled. That is, in my opinion, beyond insulting. It's akin to asking if someone was dropped on their head as a baby as explanation for poor performance in my eyes. "You ran away with the stack mechanic three times. It's okay though, you probably have severe developmental issues."
No. I'm not going to assume that. If the person who is afflicted wants to say that they are afflicted, I will be softer towards them, but that is on them to decide and not on me to assume.
I’ll give my opinion on the matter.
If I see someone in the dungeon/group that seems to have a hard time with a mechanic on a certain fight, I’ll tell them how it’s done. If they keep repeatedly failing it, I would have to say that it’s their fault for not letting me know they have a disability of some sort. I wouldn’t mind going through several wipes so they learn better, not a big deal. However, just because I feel that way, doesn’t mean other party members will feel the same, and they aren’t obligated to.
To essentially force someone to conform to your moral opinion on a scenario is silly, and other party members have every right to leave, or vote kick.
Fair enough just wanted to say I have never stated that I expect perfection. I am just saying that if someone wants leeway or extra consideration at a base level they are asking for special treatment, and inherently nothing wrong I just wish more people were honest about it.
Not downplaying your issue, I know what it is like to have issues outside of your control hinder performance and thus get that feeling of holding a group back. I respect your view and no need to reply I just wanted to clear up I do not expect perfection.
I don't have time to read this whole thread but did the first page or two. I'm a C5 quadriplegic and as such I have some use of my arms but no use of my fingers. I play by using the sides of my pinky knuckles on a keyboard and touchpad, and I started using a sip/puff switch to help with some repeated actions that were adding a lot to the pain I have in my arm/neck/shoulders. Those actions were holding shift and always pressing numpad 0 a million times. I'm just coming back to this game, I came back after my first hiatus when Garo gear came out and I just had to get some since I love the show, then I quit again right before Stormblood came out. I realized I had gotten all the gear I was capable of, and the mount requirements were beyond what I could accomplish. I don't remember the exact requirements but I think it was a ton of wins in all the PvP modes or something. This was something that was going to be too hard to get both because of my disability and the level of extra time commitment it would have taken me to accomplish because of it. When I played I don't remember any times I was really discriminated against because of my disability. I do recall coming across a mechanic in a dungeon (kiting the Tonberry King) that was my responsibility as a Bard, and because of my disability and that I play with a touchpad I was not able to do. I know my groups failed a few times and may have disbanded a few. But I never got any hate because I couldn't do it, and as soon as I knew the fight required it I would explain the situation and ask if somebody else could and offer to drop if they couldn't. I don't remember anyone ever berating or belittling me because of this, or telling me I shouldn't even be playing it if I couldn't do it. I've never tried to raid for fear that I couldn't pull my weight in a situation like that without being in a group that new any limitations I would have and was willing to compensate for me in situations I might struggle with. Because of that I can't speak on the toxicity or understanding of the endgame community. My recent return to game is under an extremely unique circumstance. I have been able to play the game with only my thoughts via brain implants I have because of a research study. I have posted a video of that in the forums and response to it has been positive, so I'm hoping any negative experiences people with disabilities have had lately are in the minority, and not a huge shift in the community I have dealt with so far.
Here is the video of me playing with my mind: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...brain-implants
I born with Asperger syndrome I haven't found ffxiv community that bad sometime there sometime they aren't.
It's not contempt against people with disabilities, so stop trying to play the victim card. This is a game, that requires skill in the end game. If you can't accomplish said encounters that require a certain skill, then you shouldn't be attempting the content. It's not on the shoulder of everyone else to carry you because you have a disability that prevents you from performing the mechanics. *Gitgud*, or cue for all the other fluff that is in the game for people incapable of harder content.
Agree with you. Some are pretty cold about it. Sad to see but guess very real. Many are like this offline too so stands to reason they wouldn't grow a heart for online games.
I was born with little to no patience, and I don't think a lot of "disabilities" are an excuse for bad play. Or that voicing an opinion on a player's bad play is because of "contempt" for people with a disability. Most people are exaggerating or don't even actually have one in content for this game. I also guarantee you there are people straight up lying about having one, they just want pity points, or an excuse for playing sub-par. When I play sub-par I am just bad. Not naming names, I didn't even read the thread.
this is kinda funny.
what concerning for me is the victim mentality of this community, have you guys play any other game outside xiv?
people wont bother you just because you are aetherically disabled or, pardon my language ... *chuckle* aetherically thicc...
but generally, they will say mean things if you performing badly. in another game i can be top 3 scorer yet the one i carry might still talk shit to me. because you know, its the internet.
