Holy s**t are you blind? If time keeps running when they're down for maintenance I suppose it didn't freeze during this downtime.

lol even if your anima was 0 it would be full by now.
I was told by A family member in japan (Tokyo area) that there are scheduled "blackouts" everyday 3 hours in the morning And 3 hours in the evening. they were also told not to use "unnecessary" power... even the Heat if possible! ( most Japanese use electric heaters) So I don't know how SE could put the servers back up with these Nation wide black outs. Unless they make it so the game is only available for certain "blocks" of time each day. So I think we are in for a decent wait. So in the mean time since XIV was free for everyone anyway, and XI is getting monthly fee's waived. consider donating to the Red Cross or another charity that is helping with food and water shortages. Just a thought anyway.
It would be nice but I'm not going to hold my breath.
I am *deep breath*.
Businesses everywhere are encouraged to save electricity. But SE, as others, has to compete on an international level, with businesses that are not affected by the current situation, so I doubt anyone would blame them for not participating (with the servers) further in the voluntary brownout, even because they can still save energy while running the servers (by keeping unnecessary lights off, air conditioning on power saving and so forth).
Many other businesses in the shibuya area compete only on a local stage (malls, shops and such), so they can shorten their business hours and keep most of their electrical equipment off (all the neon lights and large screens on the famous shibuya crossing for instance), without facing the same competition problems SE is facing now.
I'm not in their shoes. So I don't know what they will decide. What I can say is that a reopening of the server sometimes soon seems to be *possible* but it all depends on the ones taking the decisions. And whatever they decide, there are solid reassons supporting both possibilities (turning the servers on or keeping them off), so they can't be blamed.
Sony had their GT5 servers up after 2 days SE using a week+ is simply goodwill from them.
From what I see, no one is saying when they will definitely open up the server.
As for insight, is it really that important?
People are merely commenting about whether the server will be up soon enough.
There are basically 2 groups of opinion here,
1) Speculating and Giving comment that server could be up soon.
2) Furious with group1 that they speculate without sparing a thought for the situation that Japan are in.
Let's have peace, Group 1 only speculate without putting harsh words or threatening SE to put the server up.
I believe everyone or most of group 1 will still support SE if they are having difficulties in opening up the server soon.
So let's just see what is going to happen next, that's the only thing which we can do. Despite the difference, let's just
enjoy the chat and accept differences as no one is exactly the same.
The problem with this discussion is that there are two kinds of opinions. One is right in their way morally and the other is right in their practicality.
It may sound cold to you, but some people are just explaining the conditions that need to be met for the servers to ready for relaunch. Which is not running on emotion, so, I think those of you who think otherwise are taking it the wrong way.
Some people are saying, and they are correct, that the severs are just a power conservation issue. When that issue is squared away, the servers will come back regardless of tragedy around lost lives and unstable reactors. These things don't have as much to do with the servers coming down than the black outs. The tragedy only affects development... understandably so.
I agree that there should be some respect for the people who have lost their lives or for those who lost their homes, liveliness/businesses, ect, but they're at the point where they are thinking how can we go on from here? Making the choice to go back to work, whether it's for a video game company or not, is for themselves and not for us. People who are mourning shouldn't have to stop what they do in order to reassure us that they are doing fine by "mourning correctly". Only time can do that and getting back to what they do will help them not feel detached from their daily lives. Something you have to watch out for in mourning. People think since it's such a large scale tragedy, they need to mourn longer or mourn bigger. That's not healthy.
It's bad that Tsunami hit Japan and country is suffering. Also having nuclear disaster isn't helping with the rescue efforts and recovery plans that should've went into plan by now. Something I don't understand is irrational people saying "how can you worry about video game and such and such when people are suffering". In order to rebuild and help the refuge the government need to generate cash. It's best in SE's interest (not to mention other global international companies) to go back into normal business operation ASAP. Longer it takes for Japanese business to generate cash it needs to support recovery plan harder it'll be for refugee to settle back into their life. People shouldn't forget the Tsunami victims, but life must go on for those who survived, and that includes any and all jobs that Japanese business can provide.
they will be up when its safe for them to be up. end of line
while it would be nice for them to be up soon, i aint stressing it one bit. besides the longer the servers stay down the higher the probability that we will start up again with a patch.
I completly agree with you. Japan is an amazing country and the Japanese are an amazing people. Maybe some people in Japan would like to get ffxiv back up as a way of escaping from there current troubles. The Japanese work very hard and if FFXIV or FFXI helps them let their hair down then it's a good thing as long as it's not impacting the electricity supply.
Fingers crossed they'll be up tonight!
I'm not so sure the server will be back up tomorrow, but at the same time I figured they'd tell us now rather than waiting till last minute to keep them down longer. If they don't come up, I can already see the flood of tears people are going to cry about how unfair it is to keep us on hold like this, but if that is what SE needs to do, I'm not going to be upset. I've been enjoying the stressfree time off. I hate having to worry about falling behind. /laugh
I'm curious to see the status of things in the SE office, but I don't think anyone will be playing XIV or XI tomorrow. I am often in the business of being wrong though it seems.
I am somewhat enjoying the break myself though. Doing all the stuff I would usually put off with final fantasy as an alternative time killer. Catching up on my glamefly Q, drawings, schoolwork, not so much the last one.
and I highly doubt anyone would leave this community permanently if they decided to stay in low power mode for a few more weeks
will anyone want to put the ID on the line with me, will SE start the game tomorrow or not? I bet they will not
Like I said before, servers don't run on emotions. They run on electricity.
guys i think we are over reacting.
if SE can get their servers back up soon it will be better for SE as the business and the employees and their families. thin in turn is better for the country. we have to realize that business is all about making money. it is not that SE does not care for the poeple suffering in japan and has actually given 10mil yen to help out with the repair. with that and the free to play games in xiv and xi(for april), the amount i am sure they are paying the server even though they are not running atm, and other fees they have to pay just to stay in business they are losing alot right now. the best thing for them is to get up as soon as they can. this may be tomorrow and soon as they can may be 3 months from now. this is the same for all companies trying to get back on their feet as soon as they possibly can. they have to get back to receiving revenue as soon as they possibly can.
i don't think anyone in here has said they better this or better that because it is heartless, but yes we do want the games back as soon as possible. we look at it that we may leave and find another game if they are down too long. honestly, i probably won't because i like none of the games out now, but alot are looking at new stuff thinking of leaving.
that being said whenever se gets the servers up and back to business it will be when it is the time they feel best to do so.
True... Almost all the video games I played nowadays are made in the USA (AMERICA, F YEAH!). And I agree with anime being generally bad in the past few years... What happened to the awesome stuff. Then again, like you said, I'm starting to think it was never that great and I was just extra bored when I did like it. Though I do still love Black Lagoon and Last Exile. I own both, and I watch them as often as I watch my collection of Futurama DVD's (pretty often).
Though more on topic... I'm pretty sure the servers won't be back up tomorrow. I think they'd give us a bit of a heads up instead of waiting for the last moment, flipping them on, then posting a message saying "Surprise!" I'm sure tomorrow (today if you live in the states, since it'll probably be in 8 hours or so when we get the update status) we will get a message saying "Shit's too bad, we can't put the game online" or "the game will come back online at this date."
Some of Nissan's and Sony's factories are partially up and running again as of today, so I figure there's a good chance that SE will be as well, considering how much energy must be required for a car or electronics factory as opposed to a server farm. Especially given the fact that the Shibuya district (which is where SE's HQ are at) has apparently been exempt from the blackouts.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
and you think they will stop, place hands on chest and
remain in mourning for a long time? japan is going through various situations
including the more worrying when it is radiation
they lost many things .. and thus will want to come back as fast as possible to
active .. need to recover to earn money .. many things have cost, and get back your power
re-active is not a matter of cowardice ... As many commented "Square Enix has no heart, no care for the victims" No?! is a matter of honor .. that despite having beaten his knees on the ground are rising! and helping the country get up!!

all power to the japan!
If there was one country that can recover from a major disaster or catastrophe, it would be Japan. They practically define the word perseverance.
Furthermore, they are a first world economy that is the third largest in the world, after the U.S. and China. A shattered coastline isn't going to cripple them beyond a timely recovery.
EVERYONE, CROSS YOUR FINGERS!
Id be happy if SE just let the servers stay down a little longer so they could do one big content patch.
BRING ON ISHGARD! KEEP THE SERVERS DOWN FOR ISHGARD!
DO IT FOR ISHGARD!
Ahhh I have to get all my school work done before FFXIV eats my life again!!
10:00am in Japan!!
..What time do they go into work at SE? ....
They are going to re-evaluate and post the situation today....not at the start of the day, but today in general
so expect to see it by the end of their business day. Right now im sure there is a meeting going on discussing what they are going to do and we will hear something within the next few hours(few as in 7 or so)
Hey what time is this update they are giving its 6pm in usa already.
