Nope. DRK, SMN and DRG are still my 3 of choice. Instead of acting like a baby and making an arse of myself I actually took the time to learn what the jobs could do now.

This post should be titled: "The Official Forum in a nutshell" or something like that... It's just too good, it has everything. It insults people who switched jobs and those who made suggestions, it tries to be elitist, it lacks both the knowledge to realize DRG stands at the top of the positive feedback charts and the one to recognize the flaws is SMN rotation, it has the perfect negative tone.
It's a masterpiece of a post.
Mained both physical ranged throughout HW and SB. I'm switching to DRK now.
In ARR I mained a SCH, in HW and SB I mained AST, and now in ShB, I main DNC.
I really enjoy DNC's fluidity, proc-based gameplay, and the support it brings.
I'm leveling SCH now but I do miss the Green DPS lifestyle (not to say that its all bad). >w>
Not so much. I was hoping to switch my tank from WAR to GNB, but the queues got a bit irritating. So, I stuck with my former main, SCH, because a healer was/is always still in need. And I really only am able to play 2 times a week. Going to go back to leveling WAR soon. So, nothing really changed besides the usual flip-flop between Tank and Heal that I do.
Switched to BLM because I felt like it mechanically played the smoothest out of every job in the game then when back to SMN because BLM is incredibly boring, you just sit there and cast Fire4.
War and Drg in the beginning, and Drk mainly from HW on, though with the recent changes, I'm looking elsewhere. Really dislike what they did to Drk, feels so boring and stale now, mana management is a thing of the past. Probably just going to main a dps like Sam, though I have time to decide while my friends catch up to me.
Did I say I didn't see any flaws with SMN? Unless there's some text hidden in there somewhere I don't think that I did. And I don't see an edit message so...yeah. Obviously it has some issues. I just said I stuck with it. And pardon the seven hells out of me that I don't hold 'suggestions' that equate to 'go back to how the job was' that also just so happen to ignore what these same people were complaining about then with much weight. Far as DRG goes, that's a bonus. I can't see into the future and tell what job is gonna go over well and play that.
And what can I say? The community's years of asinine posts, crybaby topics about stuff like bunny suits for men (and a twitch chat full of man children going on about Male Viera while a visibly exhausted Yoshi was announcing new content) and throwing a fit about every little thing like the bunch of entitled, whiny brats they are has left me with little but contempt for the group as a whole save for the lorists. The fanbase is literally the worst part of any piece of media.
Mained ninja in Stormblood and loved every second of it. Ninja was my soulmate job, and I still have a soft spot for it in Shadowbringers and will keep being a ninja for story content. But, for savage and extreme content, I'm going to switch to monk. Not only does Ninja feels like lots of work for no reward to me now, but my ping and lagtastic internet just loves to mess my precious mudras and clip my gcds. So, I am currently leveling monk with the intent to switch to it because it is more ping friendly than ninja, but keeps that quick paced, busy gameplay that I love once you have your 3 stacks, and is a melee class.
Summoner to Machinist. Originally I was a Machinist, was my first class to 70, but it was such a clunky mess that I switched to Summoner. And now I switched from Summoner to Machinist because Summoner became the clunky mess.
AST / SCH now switched to WHM due to irreconcilable differences, but will still mess around on SCH at the least since I find it still a good healer, just not as enjoyable. (Here's hoping AST gets reverted sooner than later)
Coming back in stormblood I am maining ranger, erm bard. Picked up BLM too which is fun, only 68 atm
I'm still trying to decide. My main was NIN before, but I'm waiting to see if they make any balance adjustments. I leveled it to 80 through the MSQ and I still enjoy it, but it seems excessively busy now while getting just moderate damage for all that work.
I also leveled Machinist to 80 and it's the top contender that I may switch to. It's busy, but not punishing. I really enjoy the updates to the job. I started leveling Summoner, got to 75 and it's not doing it for me. I've also been focusing on getting Black Mage to 80. It was my main in 1.x days and I just never got that into it in ARR. I love that it's a complete DPS beast, but I also miss having any form of support.
Honestly don't know if SMN was play tested. Definitely doesn't feel like it. SMN has been my go-to DPS since ARR and now its too much of a convoluted hodge-podge to deal with. Sticking with RDM as my default DPS job now.
I use to play astro and scholar but I don't really like their changes so I leveled some dps classes. summoner, bard, and samurai. I have cleared titania on my bard but don't feel right maining a dps. I'm trying but it just doesn't feel like me. Add to that I'm on ps4 and can't parse myself so I feel a lil in the dark about my performance even with the stone, sky, sea things.
I might try to level a healer but honestly idk I may just go play something else. I love the story in XIV Shadowbringers but the jobs feel meh. I want to like them but they just feel unfun to me.
BDO comes out for ps4 soon I may just go play that awhile and check back on xiv later after some changes have been made.
I wanted to play SMN, but had such a bad experience with mine that I'm not touching it until they make some heavy changes on the class.
In the meanwhile, playing WAR and really liking it.
Was an Astrologian, now a Dancer. Primarily because of the loss of card individuality and drawing a good vs bad card RNG nature of the cards.
Sad part is I like healing more than dps but there's no way they'd do anything more than potency buffs for all of 5.X which isn't my main issue. For the most part enjoy the overall direction of the new abilities (Horoscope is like having another Earthly Star but being able to store a 20 second AoE Essential Dignity) and even the cards focus on single target buffs is sweet, but I legitimately dread using Sleeve Draw atm and not caring about what card I draw sucks a lot.
It feels like annoying busy work. Maybe potency buffs will make them feel a lot better along with the reduced CD on Divination, but unless they give it something crazy like a 1 minute CD you'll still have long downtimes where all you are doing is drawing a card and immediately Crowning it because none of the cards matter once you have the seals.
AST to DNC. Having my heals be nerfed is one thing..having my heals be nerfed and the card system I really enjoyed gutted..I couldn't deal with it. In terms of healing class though, I did level WHM..
Switching from SMN to BLM. Cleared UWU, Sigma/Alphascape Savage with SMN.
Summoner is bad in every category now. Honesty, doesn't deserve to be compared to trash. While Black Mage is everything Summoner was in Stormblood but more even. I don't think anything bar a heavy rework would make me reconsider playing it.
I switched from BRD to MCH.
Only reason is that BRD lost all support skills. If I remember correctly we have now only one unique support skill which can be activated during our songs.
This is not what I would call "brd" as all songs are only buffs for us allone.
Also I did not see any usage of MP not even the most simple one:
- Sing a song to convert 3 MP into 1 MP for your target until your MP is gone
Which would give us a related support song, usage of MP and Healers/Casters would still love us.
As this will be a dream at least until 6.0 -> Mch to go. Pew Pew BOOM.
Is fun! :D
I will still use BRD but MCH is much better for the same "playstyle".
So, I leveled SAM up to 80, which felt pretty much the same as it always has, and got bored fairly quickly. Spent a few days trying out other jobs trying to find something I liked without much success, and then the unthinkable happened...
Friday night I decided to try Dancer, which I had absolutely 0 interest in...just didn't seem like my thing...but OMG, I can't believe I actually like it! Been playing it all weekend trying to level up and haven't changed to anything else, so it has me hooked (for now). :D
I just wish I looked more like this... :D

Eh, still playing my summoner but I am not really enjoying it. I like complicated classes but summoner is a whole lot of busy work for not a whole lot of payoff. Like, worse than end of Stormblood levels of busywork but even LESS payoff than before. I also really dislike the diminished presence of Egi's and being given a mechanic that puts even LESS focus on them. Egi Assault is a good idea that currently just serves to give you Ruin 4 instead of being about your mini-primal doing something impressive. The increase of damage to Enkindle is nice, but the Egi's took a massive hit to personal damage and STILL suffer the 70% of your damage rule. Ifrit's attack is listed as an 80 potency attack, but Miasma III hits for 40 potency and does just as much damage. Garuda has a harder hitting Enkindle than Ifrit now and her normal attacks are only a few hundred damage behind Ifrit's, with her Egi assaults hitting for nearly as much Ifrits, with Slipstream just flat out dealing more damage over time than any other Egi-Assault, just requiring you to NOT spam it to be effective.
Meanwhile Ifrit and Titan both lost their auto-attacks and had their time between attacks extended to three seconds from two. Both lost about half of their attack power on their attack skills as well, with my Ifrit going from 2700 at the end of Stormblood to 1400ish at the beginning of Shadowbringers. Its just making for an overall very disappointing experience for me, and I have plenty of other jobs I could level to 80 that would deal as much or more damage for less effort and be more fun in the process.
Last time I played was Heavensward. Back when that was current I was a Black Mage. Came back for Shadowbringers as a Dancer.
Why?
Well, in the Heavensward days BLM was immobile. I hated it. So I took up a mobile class.
Loving Dancer.
I understand BLM has had some quality of life fixes since those days and in Shadowbringers is quite fun so I'll probably go back and check it out at some point.
Prevous mains:
SMN, DRK, AST
Current mains:
SCH, DRK, MCH
SMN is a piece of garbage right now. Absolutely disastrous rotation (if it has one at all), terribly bad DPS compared to previous version, no new permanent summons. We know Yoshi-p hates pet classes but this is an insult to any pet class lovers. Can't tank with Titan anymore as it is unexistent physically speaking. A summoner that can't tank with pets. Won't touch this mess until they do something with it.
DRK
It's nice now with Edge of Darkness skill. The summon at lv80 is simply a dot. I couldn't care less about it. The removal of the power slash combo is simply the worst decision ever. Now instead of spamming 2 combos for 80 levels you can only spam one. And i want Dark Passenger back.
AST
No buffs they add can fix how they incredibly ruined this job. The fun with the cards and their different effects were key in this job's design. Now you have 1 effect only. What an incredible piece of garbage class AST is right now. No wonder it got lots of buffs in 5.05 but the class can never be fixed until they roll back the card changes.
MCH
This job is the only class that actually got better after the expansion. Maybe MNK a bit.
Yes and no....?
My heart is still with monk as my main job. But my raid group needed a caster DPS and the other melee DPS decided to be a samurai (and the high pitched squeal from iajutsu causes me really bad headaches) so here I am now as a red mage to fill that need in the raid team and to let me be as far from the samurai as possible :P
I started the game as NIN and pretty much mained it up until DNC was released. I've always wanted to play DNC and took up NIN cause it seemed the closest (animation-wise). But aside from really wanting to play DNC, NIN's lack of damage output solidified my change. Like, for such a punishing job, you don't hit as hard and that was a real bummer to me. Seeing 100k crit on DNC really showed how much NIN lacked in the damage department. :/
Plus, while playing NIN, I came to enjoy becoming a support job. So I was sad that Shadewalker and Smokescreen were removed. I loved helping out healers when they accidentally aggro during mob pulls with their regens and helping tanks with their tank swaps. RIP aggro management...
I initially thought it was gonna be a DPS (and part of me hoped it would share a gear with NIN) until I read that people thought it might be a healer. So I leveled AST and capped the other healers to get used to healing. :'D
I mean, I'm not mad that it became a DPS and the rumour did get me to try healing, a role I've been avoiding but now enjoy part-timing. But I guess it's good that it was not a healer considering how botched SCH and AST became (for healer, I main AST and PHEW the changes omfg). One minor complain I do have about DNC is how the AoE (aside from Saber Dance and Fan Dance 3) is melee-range-ish.
Switched from NIN to DRG after 5.05...honestly not that big of an issue for me personally as I run several characters, and one of them DRG's been its main job since HW. Had been raiding on NIN straight from the start at final coil till now. Sorta feels bad but NIN is such a convoluted job compared to any other melee it's good to be raiding on DRG again. Mainly sad since I had figured I'd be on the ball this expac and level one of my other alts NIN as well, for more practice with pugs. Oh well. So here's me sitting on 2x NIN80's now, one of which had been 60 right before 5.0.
Switched from SCH/PLD/DRG in SB to BLM in ShB.
I've always liked BLM and with the new abilities and QoL updates 5.0 BLM feels great. DRG still feels OK, but I haven't really invested in it yet; Tanking (a.k.a blue DPS) and Healing (a.k.a bored half the time) feel very lacklustre in ShB so far, so yeah, not sure if I will stick with those roles or just go pure DPS for this expansion.
I leveled up WHM first for faster queues but switched back to RDM right after (which was my main in SB as well). After my FC got into raiding we are always missing a second tank so now I'm leveling the WAR to fill in the tank position (and with DNC & BRD already in the raid group we don't need another low DPS/Support character)
I'd say I dropped WAR for GNB, as I find the moderately higher APM of the Continuation Combo more enjoyable than spamming Fell Cleaves during my burst phase, and aesthetically the GNB coat is very nice compared to what WAR got. I also dropped SAM, BLM, and MCH for MNK and DNC, in both cases for the same reason: High APM during burst, and in MNK's case Greased Lightning 4 making it play like how my absurd Skill Speed SAM played during Stormblood.
Can't decide what job to main until I have them all at lv80, but most likely melee dps candidate was SAM, until they introduced Hagakure back, which is wtf. We have 3 other melee dps with super complex rotations, why couldn't they keep SAM as easy one?
Main magic dps used to be RDM/SMN, but looks like i'll be sticking only to RDM, since SMN now is way too complicated.
I kinda like how they simplified SCH, but it's still far too complicated to play, cos very limited and weak heals, but at least got rid of those excess dot skills and I don't know how I feel about getting energy drain back. Guess it takes mp management a bit easier, so maybe it's a good thing, but they could also just lower mp cost for other skills instead of giving 1 extra skill to clutter skillbar.
Dunno about other jobs yet.
I am a WoW "refugee". I first tried WHM pre ShB and got bored with it's dps offerings early on(I got MSQ to do man, throw me a bone here). I found the bone when I went with scholar. Now that was a fun class! So many different ways to heal AND do dps. I jumped shipped as soon as I saw what ShB was going to do to the job in the livestream.
So I went to Ninja, and fell in love again. But, I guess I spent too much time on the forums, because all I read here is how Ninja is undertuned and trick attack(which I love because of the added complexity of setting it up) did not compensate enough for its lack of sustained dps. I had no plans in investing in a gimped job, so off I went.
I have already been burned in WoW by playing a rotationally complex class that did not have the dps reward at the end just like Ninja does here. I was not going that route again. So here I am, on Red Mage currently, hoping that the very existence of VerRaise gets me a spot on most teams. People say it is a very simple class to play but the proc based system and melee+magic dynamic it has satisfies my complexity standards
By role and expansion:
Tank
ARR: WAR - HW: DRK - SB. WAR - ShB: WAR
I have never enjoyed PLD and no matter how silly good it gets won't change that. I was hype for DRK and used it entirely through HW and loved it. Then it was gutted horribly and lost what I enjoyed about dark arts in SB, so I went back to WAR. DRK I hear is better in ShB but is a better SB DRK, not a better HW DRK so I'm staying WAR.
Melee
ARR: MNK - HW: MNK - SB: DRG - ShB: MNK
Loved MNK until I experienced the most boring and useless 10 level grind I've ever experienced in this game. MNK 60-70 in SB. The tackle masteries were... just plain awful. The DPS buff skill felt horrible to use and the capstone felt worse than DRG's Battle of Litany (it actually still does). Thus, I swapped to DRG when by 4.2 it was obvious that the developers didn't care. But, with the singular change I wanted to Riddle of Fire back in 4.0 happening in 5.05, I'm happy to return to MNK.
Healer
ARR: SCH - HW: SCH - SB: SCH - ShB: WHM
My bro mained WHM in ARR so I went SCH to pair well with him. He swapped to SCH in HW but I also hardly ever saw him by 3.2 so I just stayed SCH. With him promising to be around more often in ShB and WHM no longer looking to be the black sheep of healers, I decided to swap to WHM.
Physical Ranged DPS
ARR: BRD - HW: N/A - SB: MCH - ShB. DNC
Back in the olden days of XIV there was only BRD for non-magical ranged deeps and was basically mandatory for certain things thanks to its silence (T1/T2 Coils, Chimera, Pharos Sirius) thus I was this thing for those things. That no longer mattered in HW and while I did unlock MCH I wouldn't do anything with it until SB. Then DNC was announced, and I mained that in FFXI so I was super hyped. I is DNC now.
Magical Ranged DPS
ARR: BLM - HW: BLM - SB: BLM - ShB: BLM
Loved BLM. Through every expansion. That hasn't changed.
Ninja to dragoon
I switched to paladin so I could be the holiest shadow bringer and rode the unicorn mount for its entirety.
ShB SMN makes my hands hurt when I have to play the job for longer then fifteen minutes. Even after trying out several different keybinds. So I left it for SAM which actually has a sane base rotation.
