Bane is absolutely more valuable than an ED on even just two targets. You’re saving two GCDs. That’s equal to two broils. Good lord.

Anyway the fundamental advantage to SCH has always been that the fairy handles some healing for you, so you can afford a more complex dps rotation. This does not mean explicitly more damage, as they were outdamaged by AST, but a more unique and interesting playstyle.

If you take away the kit the fairy becomes painful to have around. Instead of being a cool tool that permits you to have a different toolkit from other healers, it becomes a crutch that does 50% of your job for you. The fairy will make SCH even more boring than WHM, because most of the time you won’t even need to heal, freeing your time up to mash the broil button for the entire encounter.

If you wanted an ultra-simplistic WoW-like experience in Stormblood you could play WHM, with one damage spell, one oGCD burst, and two dots, compared to SCH’s two damage spells, three dots, and four oGCDs! Now BOTH are even more simplistic than Stormblood WHM, with no major decreases in healing potencies.

It’s homogenizing the healers for no reason.

Most of scholar's capabilities weren't significantly changed. However, its shield-based playstyle has been shifted to include more direct healing, and makes it easier for scholar to focus more on a heal-oriented playstyle. Instead of focusing on dealing damage while relying on the other healer to provide healing, both healers will be able support each other in the healing role. Additionally, Embrace can no longer be used repetitively, as we’d like to move away from using macros to repeatedly cast Embrace.

It's like they forgot how many OCDs SCH had to heal with or something...

Oh my god, please someone help the devs with SCH. I did not read it yet but seeing it hear...did SE really say that about SCH? Did they really...?
I do not even have words for that oh...They don't know how Healers are being played even in mediocre content right? Not even low content I guess..
And btw, why do they always mention that people ONLY used Macros for Embrace? My brother binded the Pet Action Bar and used Embrace there..The Macro is not as good as binding too, so how could they even only think about that?

I feel like crying after reading that...first they make a joke on the Fan Festival in France that GNB could be a healer..haha so funny, being a healer is funny in FFXIV...then they say that DNC is no Healer because they want to "balance" the existing ones, now they "balanced"(haha) they existing ones and say things like that? Oh good lord why. Aren't they the devs? Shouldn't they know about the jobs they designed?

I really really hope they change this or atleast give the community the chance to talk to the healer devs for once!!

This is the change that finally pushed me away from the game. I have less than 2 weeks on my script before it expires. I'm just glad I was able to cancel my pre-order for the xpac from Gamestop before that money was lost too. These changes made me realize I can't trust SE to value the huge amount of time I invest into their game playing various jobs and classes. They'll shred them at will, and that's just not something I can support.

RIP SCH. You're a 1-dimensional, boring healbot now. All traces of diversity between you and the other jobs are fleeting and your dps kit is now so dumb a caveman can do it, shout-out to Geico.

SCH was my go to healer. The skills that they chose to remove are some of the most integral parts to scholars identity and what made scholar satisfying to play. I really hope they reconsider these changes...also art of war is fugly

Bringing back a dead thread due to it having the appropriate title. I'm sincerely hoping that all angry schs can decide to stay on one thread this time. That being said, is it time to riot again? Potency and mana costs seem to be the same as the media tour. So are we ready to jump ship now? Burn down the forums again? What's the mood?

I noticed that there’s basically no cost to fairy spells now, as the recast time is gone. So rather than strategically timing these, I guess it’s a case of keeping them up the entire time going forwards. Curious to hear what others think.

Changes from the media tour:

Consolation 150>300 pot

Fey Blessing 250>350 pot

Indom 500>400 pot

SSoil: 20% chance for free succor removed

Physick is now a 1.5s cast (great for weaving if we had anything to weave with. . . )

Hey look, we got another weaving tool, great for commanding your fairy or doing a lustrate when you have a squishy tank.

I just see more buff :
- Fey Blessing = another Indomitability which bring to 2 or 3 uses every 60 sec window.
- Consolation = another Adloquim + Deployement Tactic which bring to 3 uses every 120 sec window which is insane.

Thanks SE to let me the possibility to solo heal 5.0 contents.

If you're using Physick, you've already hit rock bottom.

Also we had an amazing thing for weaving already. They were called Pet Skills. You could use them while you were casting anything.

Oh I'm sorry, I forget, gcd heals are evil. DPS is all that matters. It's not like there are moments where rock bottom happens and it's nice to be able to double up on a heal by weaving an off-global on it. Just because it's not a frequent thing doesn't mean it's a bad thing to have.

People deprioritizing the least efficient abilities in their kits? Madness. Next people will say BLMs should avoid using Scathe if they can help it.

The shining light in all this is that we will be able to use Lustrate instead of Sacred Soil in Aurumn Vale. What a time to be alive!

I am quite perplexed by a lot of changes they made tho. We can summon our Fairy faster than ever but finally got Dissipation to bring her back automatically. Losing all of Selene's abilities and not Selene is hilarious. I understand that Fey Wind was problematic because all classes had their GCD speed built around the idea they might encounter Fey Wind and Arrow but couldn't we just get a different skill set for her? And what's with not being able to use Aetherflow outside of combat? That's going to make using stacks tricky when a mob is about to die and you know you won't be able to press the button after their dead but you want it on Cooldown while you travel to the next pack especially since it is going to be more vital for MP with Energy Drain gone. I actually imagine we may be using Aetherflow on Cooldown for MP and ignore how many stacks we have since they can only be used for healing. We don't technically have to use them all... Building Fey Gauge before you have access to Seraph is going to be a monster too. It doesn't feel like we have anything to compensate for losing the Quickened Aetherflow Trait in all the Stormblood content to build Fey Union. I would think that using Dissipation should count toward the gauge as a reasonable trade by adding 30 points on execution. Losing all the flavor of our DPS is bad but there seems to be a lot of functional questions in mind about how Scholar as a whole will play. I hope it's fun with the new adjustments for damage across the board.

It really sounds like you are describing SB SCH and not what SCH will become. The pruning of SCHs skills is what gives players the perception that it will be boring to play in ShB; it really doesn't have anything to do with the fairy. Lily's Embrace heals are basically full time mini Excogs on any party member in her range. Even more so now with the cast time removed, and I wouldn't be surprised if it is taken away completely in a future expansion.

I can't wait to test it even if on paper it looks borring as hell i just want to be sure of that and then maybe stop to play this job i love...

How SE can think we will be happy as healer with this.

Facilitation, homogeneity are killing games nowadays and plz SE stop to think new players / casual players just want or are capable of pushing only 3 buttons....it's just borring

The Sch updates left me hearth broken, I have PSTDs since the live letter and I have complained since that. I main Sch for two years, it’s part of me and that part is officially dead. I will finish main scenario with my Sch because the class represents me but then I won’t play till we dont get our dignity and identity back!
We lost our dps rotations, mana management skill (Ed) and now we need to even clip to use our fairy buff so basically we became the Whm -_- . No fast aetherflow and 1 dot. I have been waiting since the begin of SB for another dot ! Thanks to all people jealous about the Sch since always, well done :(

Still the Ast is technically just horrible. Not just for dmg output but for all the rest

I'm glad to have fellow SCHs here to echo my sentiments. While reviewing the skills, I was told I was "complaining" that Dissipation still sucks, and that charging the fey gauge will take a lot longer now. But, It's nice to see I'm not alone.

Also anyone else think the Art of War(stupid name for a spell) icon looks like someone Tebowing? MCHs dabs, maybe SCHs will Tebow, it'll be a funny bonus to all these horrible nerfs.

so pet heal is on full auto now you cant choose who it heals?

The worst part about Art of War besides its supid name is how boring the animation is. It's literally just a PvP skill animation put on SCH. And it is so underwhelming to use. You casually hit the ground and a less than impressive aura appears from it. It's not some massive magic explosion like Gravity or Holy. Just, hit the ground weak sound happens, and a tiny purple AOE appears around you. At least Misama 3 sounded impressive and gave you that satasfying sound of every enemy around you taking DoT damage.

You can't use fairy skills while casting anymore .... why does SCH even have one? They are only normal off globals now.

Edit: And healing magic still doesn't increase ability healing, which means Dissipation is still useless.

These were the changes I was sure Square is keeping in mind, but the healer redesign is as mindless as it seemed in the beginning.

It’s Official!! The Sch class is dead...
I did 50/60/70 roulette with a level 70 dungeoun, levelling with the lv 61, I did Raids for exp and now I am officially depressed :(
Now let’s state a few points:
1) Bane was amazing for dungeouns and mobs in general (trials adds as examples)
2) Art of war is just silly: the animation doesn’t make sense for a healer and it annoys me that cost more than Holy
3) It’s horrendous not having a dmg aetherflow skill because it’s silly to have to waste a lustrate just to finish your aether rail
4) ED was essential not for dmg but for mp management.
5) Pet action are not more Pet actions but now ogcds.
6) The people playing Sch can cheer for the lost of our identity and dps rotation only because the class was too complicated to optimise for them. Ast could out-dps the Sch only because as Ast you literally can always cast.
7) Clip your broil is always better than R2 if you need to single weave.

Btw just saying, the fact that piety will be relevant it’s a lie. You gain 3 more mp each tick every 40 piety in your gear, try to believe!
854 piety = 238 mp for tick
974 piety = 247 mp for tick
1054 piety = 253 mp for tick

It seems like SE has certain skills they try so desperately to cling to and make work, or be "viable" but they just aren't able to fix properly. Dissipation is one, One Ilm Punch was another, but thankfully that was removed. Sleep, Mug, Wildfire. And I'm sure there are a few more. Their initial use is very niche, and they try to add something to make it work, and sometimes they "succeed" but other times it's like beating a dead horse bird.

Would be nice to be able to spread dots. I miss bane.

But in order to spread DoTs we first need to have DoTs. This is like the SB launch all over again, but worse.

Part of me is clinging onto hope that they'll rework Scholar and it'll be somewhat fun to play again. But seeing the dev's stance on healers and how they really just gutted Scholar this time around, it doesn't look very good.

Same i have done few dungeons and it's just borring and not fun to play sch anymore!

Seriously though I don't understand what Square fails to get about what made scholar fun? Nobody likes having a one button rotation for whenever there is downtime in the healing department. Part of being a good scholar was to be able to bust out your DPS rotation because you were doing a good job at mitigating damage from your party. And all we get from Square after they remove all of our rotation is a god awful AOE that might do more damage but is quite literally the most boring move I have seen throughout the entire game.

At least dancer is fun. And hey, to all the people that were saying "Wait until ShB comes out before passing judgement, guess what! Shadowbringers is out and our thoughts about the changes were entirely right!

Almost burst out in tears when I 'played' with my SCH and AST.... not much to add to the discussion, last 10 posts mentioned all the breaking points

I just keep feeling like I'm walking on phantom stairs, putting a foot out for the next step and nothing's there. This isn't just in muscle memory, but the whole gameplay for scholar now feels off and lacking. Even the animations (yes, I'm looking at you, Art of War) feel underwhelming or inappropriate. It irks me so much that I, a scholar of all jobs, can't be prepared at all times with loaded aetherflow, that I have to wait for battle, especially since now they are only linked to heals. Sorry person outside my party who I just helped raise, I can't give you a quick top off lustrate since there's no fight going on.

Oh dear. It looks like I have something to look forward to today...

Having to hit aetherflow before combat ends just to get stacks is incredibly awkward, oh and the forced lustrates if I want more gauge to pop aetherflow without leaving any.

These two things are going to be bothering me quite a bit.

The only good thing about this particular issue is that the solution is fairly obvious and realistic to hope/push for over the course of the patch cycle. Restoring Energy Drain (or adding in a similar skill) and allowing Aetherflow to be used out of combat (I have no clue why one can't right now) are both things that are realistic to implement since they don't require massive reworkings of classes or mechanics.

I agree with above, i find that i have aetherflow stacks that I don't need. And honestly swapping Miasma 2 with Art of War animation would be for the best. I'd prefer if it still had it's dot, but I have a feeling they won't keep it. The true dream is to have energy drain back + miasma 2 + make art of war a little bit less mana + slight eos buff and I think it would be better.

My fairy is bugging out on lost of boss fights. We'll hit the next pack and she's just gone. Don't know why.

Also, not being able to select her sucks.

Finally, not being able to use embrace as I want to REALLY sucks. If they want her to auto cast, fine, then FIX HER DAMN AI.

I really want them to take the flashing away from Aetherflow. It's just bright and saturated enough to make my head pound.

This is the least fun I had playing scholar since I started playing the game. I'm thankful that you level SMN alongside with SCH so I can abuse the short dungeon queues and switch to summoner at 80 until they do something. I've played on and off since ARR and loved SCH until today. The first thing I had to do when I logged in was remove half the spells from my hotbar to replace them with almost nothing. Not only has the job gotten more boring than ever thanks to taking skills away, it also feels incredibly clunky to play without having a proper way to dump aetherflow stacks into something useful.

If WHM was really that bad that SE decided to butcher 2 other jobs for it then why didn't they simply give WHM some raid DPS that's on par with the others? Why do SCH and AST have to suffer instead of making the game more fun for everyone?

logged in, seen this shit they changed on it, Logged out and haven't logged in ever since. They truly have no clue how to make good changes and seem to always fuck one job. This time it's scholar.

Simple mode helps with that. Still an obnoxious green, but it won't pulse.

Otherwise, played a dungeon to level up to 71, my god was that just a pain in the ass to get through Sirensong Sea L I T E R A L L Y DOING NOTHING. Lustrate here, excog there, a couple succors, but the fairy takes care of most of it still unless the tank is doing a bigger pull.

I joked about being able to let the fairy do whatever while using any of the cheer motions, that's exactly what I was able to do here already in a leveling queue at 62. And does my personal damage feel as shite as ever. Feels like being lv 25 all over again, just nothing but spamming your "one good gcd" and nothing more, let alone more than one target then oh great, Broil ver. AOE to the disreputable rescue offering low payoff for the costs.

Really glad that summoner and scholar level together cause doing open world is going to be a suffrage as a healer this time around.

Have you encountered an issue where you push Whispering Dawn and the ability goes on cooldown but the fairy never actually casts it? I swear this happened to me once in overworld content but I've largely been leveling as SMN so haven't tried to duplicate.

It happened to me twice i was in a FATE with an AST and my regen aoe has never been activated but the cooldown has been used. So i thought the AST regen aoe was better than mine and had erased the fairy's one, i don't know, both aoe regen can stack or not?
