Please never ever add any random stat crap to that amazing game. If you wanna play a slot machine just go for it and leave me alone. Or if you wanna try how it feels to have random stats, substats, itemlevel in different stages at the same item - then play WoW. Have fun with it. Omg it hurts so much...
I love you FFXIV, I do so much! Thank you for the ability to grind tombstones to get my gear. Thank you for all that nice glams and the beauty of all those creatures and landscape. Thank you for all those funny hours I spent with you. Thank you for that community!
:))))))))))))))))))))
my feelings on the matter:

Thanks no. Don't make this game another typical Korean "spend 120000000 hours for taking one valuable piece of armor because there is 2% chance of drop and 0.0001% chance of taking needable stats" MMO, please. If it ever will be a thing, I'll just throw away my sub, and I suspect I will not be the only one in this case.
I wouldn't mind if there was a RNG nature as to which secondary stats a piece of equipment had, but that the values of those remained constant, or relative to their weight.
For example, having caster gear be able to roll with either Crit, Determination or Spellspeed. So you don't get lumped with an entire set that's all native Spellspeed when you're playing RDM...
RNG stat rolls wouldn't help that though. It would actually make it worse since as things are now if raid gear has stats your class doesn't like you can choose token or crafted gear. If token gear has bad stats you can choose raid or crafted. So on and so forth. With RNG stats you wouldn't be able to know if you get x gear then it would definitely not have bad stats... it could *all* have bad stats.
If you love rng so much go play maplestory 2
Hey guys, lets add RNG to loot now, so now you have to spend even longer to get the appropriate gear to actually do content cause RNG hates you!
Some RNG is fine in mechanics of a fight, but not fine in gear. There needs to be a stable base somewhere, and having to deal with RNG stats that arent optimal is going to hose people. This gets more important when its pretty much expected you wont get a 'perfect' roll on loot, and are much more likely to get sub optimal gear. And if its just for funsies/random drops, then you can bet most people wont spend excessive time on it. Theyll just go for the gear from NPCs or bosses thats guaranteed to be good.
So much this. And some people (like me) are perpetually unlucky with RNG for some strange reason.
In WoW, I had this friend who always got Titanforged gear, without fail, when running raids and dungeons. I'm not even joking, there were no cheats of any kind involved, he was just being showered in titanforged gear that was perfectly statted for him (for those who don't know: titanforging is a RNG element that gives you a higher ilvl item with much better stats than warforged or regular items -- and that's on top of the already random nature of stats, so you could get a titanforged piece of equipment, supposed to be extremely rare, but have it roll stats that are completely useless to your class despite being of the same armour type).
Meanwhile, I could do dozens of raids and mythics and never even get a single piece.
It was so bad that I eventually had to ask my friend to group with me as a similar class to mine, because I spent months and months getting properly raid-ready where other people got it in weeks, and wouldn't you know: he got his titanforged perfectly statted gear, and traded them to me.
Now Idk about you but that doesn't sound like an intuitive way to gear if you ask me...
Stuff like that is why I end up quitting games. If FFXIV gets RNG loot as the mainstay way of gearing, I am out. I'm done. I will leave this game and never come back, and I don't think I am the only one who feels that way.
