Interesting take on how people that don't agree with you somehow makes them trolls. Don't kid yourself, hundreds of threads will be posted about this same topic so we all know they will eventually see the feedback. It's fine to voice your concerns, but labeling people who don't agree with you as trolls is pretty immature.
I'm actually fairly happy they are as they've always been too.
All these upset people seem to be upset that something that never existed outside their own imagination of what it might have been didn't materialize.
Even the concept art matching the female viera is not even remotely close to what all these complaint threads are claiming it would have been
And we already have the ability to make diminutive males in miqote and midlander and even elezen can have those features in a taller race
And we already have the ability to make super muscular women with roegadyn and Highlander.
And lalafel you can't even tell if it's male or female unless you know the animation differences if androgenous is the goal
The claims of needing to fill a gap are just aren't true outside the people that openly just say they want a character that looks like it's from underage hentai
Not everyone who disagrees with you is a social justice warrior. However, when people add their perspectives/biases to their arguments that doesn't necessarily mean their opinions are invalid. The majority has spoken that gender locks are a horrible decision-regardless of whether they prefer Hrothgar or Viera.
Good decision SE!
There's no way to know on the forums what the majority or minority opinions are. All you're going to see are individuals voicing their opinions.
It doesn't really matter if it's a minority, anyway. A large enough minority can still be a huge problem for a company that relies on keeping their customers satisfied.
No, I wasn't addressing respectful disagreement. I was addressing the trolls. Look, see, you'll see them, if you look. But you have to look.
What I've been seeing on these forums tonight is an absolute metric asston of over-reactive whiplash over a cosmetic choice, and people that are either:
A) just laughing at all the mayhem
B) disagreeing and trying to make it into an actual discussion.
The former may be a bit bad mannered, but it's not trolling.
the memes have been great thus far

Why should a male be feminine?
I am just really disappointed in this action of SE, gender locking races was one of the things that upset the community before a realm reborn. it was silly, I personally found it sexist, and I found it unrealistic, using males/females are secluded and don't ever go anywhere is cop out. You as the main "Hero". IS and should be the rare type of person that do want to travel or do adventuring ect. It is like saying well it is a woman's job to stay at home and take care of the kids. No woman can choose to do that or go on a adventure or get a job ect. same as males.
wooow. this isn't an SJW issue. This is, at the WORST a false advertising issue, and at best a VERY skeezy, shady 'hide the facts as long as we possibly can so people maintain the hype for things' issue. They went out of their way to hide males, despite including them in lore. To disregard females despite their blatant existence in FFX. This isn't a social justice issue, this is a 'literally why in god's name did you think it was ok to mislead people this way' issue. ..also no healers. 4 years no healers. it'll be at 6 years before we healers will see another chance at maybe having a new option.
Players: WHY DO WE KEEP GETTING HUMANS WITH ANIMAL EARS???
Yoshi: Adds non human with unique design
Also Players: WHY DON'T WE GET HUMAN WITH ANIMAL EARS??
Shh! You can't use the lore card..just because..of things..and stuff.
Additionally just because there were female Ronso clearly seen in 10, 14 isn't 10.
Is this race not just gender neutral?
this one had me laughing the hardest to the announcemnet of Hrothgarhttps://images-ext-2.discordapp.net/...4928/lion2.gif
I don't prefer either.
I like my current race.
I just don't think locking races to only a single gender is a good decision.
And, according to reports, back in 2.x the devs thought the same thing...
Supposedly citing that as a reason for unlocking the races previously locked in 1.x...
Remember all of those male Viera in the FFXII village? Why couldn't they model them based off of those?
from a technical standpoint there is actually, It's easier to model gear for one gender and one gender only since they mentioned already that as it was the viera female model was different from the traditional models used in game. This is just me speculating however as I have no background in computer programing or engineering but I imagine it'd be a hell of a lot easier to only have to worry how a set of gear looks on one model then two since it's unlikley that viera males would have the exact same model as the female.
I'm sorry to all of you who didn't get the male Bunny's they wanted.
Oh, okay. Bye.
I agree, which makes the decision to add a whole other seperate race even more baffling to me. I don't have a background in programming either, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were merely modified male roegadyn models to save time in an attempt to compensate for the lack of male viera. I'm happy for those that wanted hrothgar, but unhappy that they believed that would take the place of male viera as some sort of "consolation prize" in any capacity.
Forgive me if I'm missing or forgetting something, but I'm pretty sure all they said that was different was just the ears. They had to modify headgear. Headgear is largely unisex and they should not have had too much issue carrying that over to male models. Either way, it's not like they only made female Viera. They also went through the trouble of making male Hrothgar and adjusting existing armor to fit them. I'm also not a coder, but I cannot see how creating a completely new race would have been easier than creating a male variant of an already existent female model. I have worked in 3D modeling before, and from that perspective, having to adjust armor for a completely different race with completely different features and proportions seems like much harder work to me. At best, I believe the effort put into making either a new race or a new gender variant would have been equal.
A female Viera, long ranged dps, dancer class... No thank you, I'll pass.
What I don't get is why "unlocking" Miqo'te and Roe compared to v1 and FFXI to lock race now.
???
You have no evidence to say that the "majority" don't want gender-locked races. Just like no one has evidence of the opposite. All we have are the forums and social media... which A) Only represent about 1% of the actual population of FF14 players, and B) is heavily, heavily skewed to the negative, because you are 1000% more likely to post to complain about something than you are to praise something.
Thus he used the term "vocal minority" because that's exactly what it is. If SE thought it would significantly affect them financially to not have male Viera, then they would have made male Viera. But obviously their metrics show otherwise.
unsubbed ~_~
No Viera male for lore reason don't stand either as the lore itself says they exist.
It's to wonder how we got male Miqo'te and female Roe lol...
Good luck. Has there ever been a male Viera in final fantasy game. Because don't remember ever seeing one in any of them.
I mean, Yoshi went out of his way to NOT confirm Male Viera at any point, so to deem it false advertising is, at the WORST, a stretch and at best a VERY big stretch.
When Roe and Miqote were gender-locked, the game had MUCH bigger problems to sort out first. Sure there were people asking for it but to say the main reason they brought in the opposite genders was community outrage is hyperbole, we have more than one reason to believe they would have been introduced in ARR anyway. Your point's still valid, I'm just saying.
