I think you're stone cold crazy.

But I'm hyped for the reveals. The idea tossed around in my FC was that Gunblade will be a Tank (shocker) but the twist is it will use "Magic Bullets" (I think there's lore behind that concept). The ultimate conclusion being that the Tank Gunblade class will be a modern form of the classic "Mystic Knight" of past Final Fantasy games.

While I would have preferred a class that runs its hand over a sword to imbue it with flames... the magic bullets makes way more sense from an in-universe perspective... I think.

Anyway. I'm hyped to see bunny people, and get teased on Dancer.

See you all back here soon when we look back on these posts and laugh at how wrong/right we were.

I just can't see another sword-weilding tank job, especially one that may be a melee version of a red mage possibly using melee/long ranged attacks. I know there were some people saying that Thancred looked like he was wearing plate but DRGs also wear some heavy armor too. I think it'd be nice to have a different style of tank this time around. Just wishful thinking, I know. But it'd be cool.

I just want to see what they're doing with the viera. I woke up twice last night after having two consecutive dreams about playing a male viera that was everything I'm hoping it would be. But then after waking both times, I realized that (1) They were dreams and I'm probably not going to be happy with what we get. (Or I might! Idk.) And (2) I have an enormous problem if I'm this preoccupied with a game.

If they hadn't added Samurai I would probably agree with you. I hope gunblades are dps but I'm honestly expecting them to be a tank which is also fine to me. Just don't let it be a healer, SE.

A part of me will always hope for a secret 3rd New Job revealed for 5.0 since we expect Gunblade to be the Tank and Dancer (assuming is the 2nd Job) to be the healer.

Yoshi-p did say once he wants to introduce FF14 unique Jobs that have not been part of the FF series yet one day.

Gunblade Job and Dancer are still considered from the FF series since they have been established in past FF games.

(still hoping for Modern Assassin Job (Short Sword/Gun) )

Computers store data in binary code, a string of ones and zeroes. (Technically any two symbols can be used, or you can think of it as "on/off", but 1 and 0 are the standard.)

A setting with five-to-eight choices would require a three-digit binary number - actually representing 0-7 rather than 1-8.

The three digits represent the standard numbers 4-2-1. If the binary digit is "1", those standard numbers are added together to read the actual number.

0 = 000
1 = 001 = 0 + 0 + 1
2 = 010 = 0 + 2 + 0
3 = 011 = 0 + 2 + 1
4 = 100 = 4 + 0 + 0
5 = 101 = 4 + 0 + 1
6 = 110 = 4 + 2 + 0
7 = 111 = 4 + 2 + 1

To count beyond this, it would require a four-digit number (8-4-2-1) instead - and I doubt they would have left that "spare" digit in the data all this time. It would be taking up a space that could be used to relay other data, or double the number of options for something else.


I suspect the lack of changes or additions to the character creator are due to not wanting (or being easily able) to 'disturb' the character data and change the number or order of digits being transmitted.

They've tried other styles of tanks before, and they didn't work. WAR was originally designed to purely be an absorb tank, and that fell flat on its face so fundamentally that one of Marauder's defining abilities was removed from tanks all together. DRK was originally designed to mitigate physical damage almost entirely through parry, and that failed so badly that they had to keep getting their mitigation buffed throughout the entirety of Heavensward and eventually had the key component to that, Dark Dance, removed in Stormblood.

I'm really not familiar with any examples of evasion/parry/absorb tanks working in MMOs with heavily scripted fights. The closest I can think of is Guardian(then Feral) Druids back in ~2007 WoW, and that was because there was a PvP stat that worked as blanket damage mitigation and their own tank stance's multipliers letting them hit over 100% dodge.

It has always come down to how well a Tank is designed for controlling how much the can reduce from the damage taken in my opinion.

The more control the players have over reducing damage while at the same time maintaining proper damage output to meet group dps requirements and/or keeping enemy aggro, the more people feel in control as a tank with their roles.

However, achieving this becomes tricky as more variety of tanks are introduced since to make each tank unique gameplay wise have both ups and downs that can be too much for players or just too little for players.

It looks like it's pretty much what I expected it to be. I am not disappointed in the slightest. I'll be going tank when Gunbreaker goes live.

Are we sure about the dance dance revolution hint because I just looked back at the Las Vegas fan fest and they had arrow to stickers on the floor too? I don't want to get my hopes up. Strange we didn't get an obvious hint this time

Sad that the stream had to happen while I was sleeping. Bah.

Oh well. Gunbreaker (official name of the job revealed!) confirmed as a Tank makes me very happy. Finally, Tanks are getting a new toy to play with come 5.0. My hopes of seeing Dancer as a healer for 5.0 just shot up even higher now.

I am 100% happy that they went with the Squall Gameplay style for Gunbreaker.

They even gave the Job the Squall battle stance.
