But then why would we even bother being out in the empty overworld to collect skills we can't use anywhere else? Such a pointless concept if that's what they're going to do.

How is it 'not content' just because all YOU want to do is raid?
Raiding is about 10% of the game, people are always clamouring for 'good side content', thats why Diadem and Eureka were disappointing, because peoole want side content, and indeed many still do play Eureka.
It was a rhetorical question. Its al pointless if youre just doing it for the sake of it. The key point is to do what you enjoy doing.
Also, Lanntis comment on the 'empty overworld'. If the problem is that its empty, why complain about more content being added to it?
Seems like circular logic.
"Not suited for parties". "Designed for solo play"
No one here is surprised. No one.
Well there it is. My hype is utterly deflated.
I prepared myself for this.
Still I feel crushed. :(
I love how they blame player toxicity and potential exploits for why they don't let BLU into parties, when the fault lies with how they designed the class in the first place. Because they're the ones who designed it like that to be so broken.
You all have phones right?
What's the point of showing off a cool new fresh class that everyone wanted and then say they couldn't balance it but put it in the game? That's like putting Death Knights into WoW but you can't do any group play like what the actual hell SE I don't know what they were thinking i'm not surprised just disappointed.
If I went into Savage raid and didn't have decent gear, I'd be kicked from the party as well!Quote:
If you went into a Savage raid and didn't have certain blue magic skills, you'd get kicked by your party!
So... don't give them game breaking abilities..?Quote:
If a Blue Mage used Level 5 Death and instantly killed the raid boss, people would be upset!
"Here's a list of jobs you guys really, really, really want and we might give you some of them, but you won't really be able to play them because this is still an MMO and you have dungeons in the MSQ!"
No other game could ever balance blue magic in a multiplayer setting though, it's very very hard.
yes yes I know XI was hardly balanced but still
If they couldn’t make it work like a real job they should have just developed something else :(
So basically Blue Mage is dead content they're wasting money on because they're incompetent. Between this and the server reshuffling, what I way to butcher the expansion hype.
It does say premade parties are allowed, though, so... if you have a group of 4, you should still be able to do them. Not ideal, and I really am not sure they understood that in "trying to make people happy by giving them BLU at all although they can't balance it" they're just really making everyone unhappy, but I expected it to be 100% solo, can't even access the duty list. So, that's something.
When everything is so finely tuned and balanced (to them) that any sort of shake up can disturb the balance, they do crap like this. Scared to develop something with depth and actually look at real balance in fights and interactions between player abilities and monsters.
And no access to Duty Finder, Roulette, PvP and Deep Dungeon for them, either.
(Pre-formed parties still work, though.)
So the (possible) Gunblade class could be a DPS and still wouldn't make a big hit on queues.
updating post.
If they were already going to build this ridiculous system, I don't see why not make a proper build, something they can balance, and have that learned from leveling up and from the job quests. Like in PvP, your actions would be swapped around so when you're in matched content, that's what you get to use, no ifs ands or buts. And then, if you wanted the extra solo experience, go do that solo experience.
I wasn't even looking forward to BLU so much, and at least one person I know who was is still pleased. I'm just astounded at the thinking process behind the design.
What a waste of a job. No one wants this content outside of the massochists who find Eureka to be the pinnacle of XIV.
Disappointing and another example of SE being out of touch with what players want or like.
I thought people wanted new and different content? NO? Huh..
Its now a job that is completely different from any other job. Which is what i thought people wanted.

Nice troll there SE. :D
I just realised, this means 50 levels of FATE grinding/non-roulette levelling dungeons if you're already done with MSQ. Welp, it'll make the folks that wanted a slow grind from 1 again happy.
Couldn't they have made job quests that center around learning magic from monsters and made it a regular job?
I just don't get the point in making a job that is completely useless in current content forever its a waste of development time.
The fact that this got past the design phase is baffling and makes me question the direction of the game
RNG Mage confirmed!
Shouldn't be baffling.
They wanted to add the traditional Blue Mage, which has a design that doesn't jive with the design of other classes and balancing for content (obviously they could have, but is that really Blue Mage or just a caster with a Blue Mage flavor), and have decided to add its own content to the game as its own (solo-focused) "current content."
Expand your definition of "current content" outside of the narrow "level-cap dungeons and raids" and suddenly it's not at all confusing.
