Individual players owning Large Houses for personal use. Yay or nay?

I really don't care what size house a player owns. I would like to see a way to upgrade though. If the plots were all made the same size but allow any size house it would let people upsize/downsize the dwelling as desired. Since a small house has a small footprint you could allow more space for gardening or other outside things based on building size. It would add a bit of give and take to your dwelling size decision which I think would be good.

I'm for it. Nothing wrong with any amount of players owning any size house. I've had a personal Large Mansion before but have downsized to a Medium House because I like the layout more.

I personally considered this for the new area - in the end the cost to move stopped me. I really do like the smaller houses better. My large basement was used just for storage until this last update, now it's empty - sad, waste of space.

Best option would to be, having a large lot with a small house :)

I don't blame the people who buy large houses for personal use. I want a large too. Instead I'll settle for my small. No biggie... except i'm locked into 1 gardening plot vs 3 gardening plots since I don't have a large house... Yeah i'd buy a large just for myself if I could and dance down the lonely empty halls in my underwear just because lol...

Large houses function as a gold sink. That is what they are. That is their purpose. And they're doing their purpose, albeit rather limited and stupidly. Add in more houses? I'm all for that. Limit larges to FCs? They don't function as gold sinks anymore. Not very effective ones. Because you're kidding yourself if you think a person who wants a large house isn't going to make a personal fc to buy that.

Personally I think large houses should have more benefits to the buyers. Make them a 100m but let people make workshops. THAT would be fair. And a much better gold sink. It's frankly unfair that certain mats are only obtainable through fc airships. I can't tell you how many workshops I've helped build in numerous fcs with the promise of getting that weird bird mount as a stated reward and then seeing said bird go to the fc leaders friends. I still don't have that mount (I've done the majority work of making at least 4 by now) and now they've added a new one? lul You want to talk about how unfair it is for individuals to own large houses? How about we talk about how unfair it is for allow individuals heading fcs control large segments of the game and exclusive mats?

And can we please kick the whole gardening thing into a corner? Anyone who's done any gardening knows three plots don't make a huge difference and they don't benefit the people in an fc at all.

I disagree. I manage 3 plots solo , 2 at Fc and 1 at personal. It sounds like you are implying that they are either a waste of time, non moneymaker, or both? While you do have to put in a few minutes here and there, the rest takes care of itself, and personally, I find gardening to be quite lucrative.

I would love a larger yard (same as mansion) for smaller plots. That or simply up the slot amounts for them. I'd be fine with either. Even if it was just a 10 slot increase I could deal with that lol. Enough to put more trees in and still have the slots left for some detailing.

Of course it is. It's absolutely lucrative. What I meant was that using the plots as a reason why any fc need the large house over an individual is absolutely BS. Let's be honest here. 98% of the people who run fc's don't let their members use their gardening spots. It's time consuming and you need them all to basically make any money from them. I've never been in an FC that allows the members to use their gardening plots. Thus it comes down to the FC leader or officers having exclusive use of those plots. There's no gardening plot sharing going on. It's not for the good of the members. It's for the good of a select few. You, as a head of an FC, aren't going to allow someone to monopolize a plot for weeks to make blood peppers from scratch. That's ridiculous.

Thus I feel that saying FC's need large houses over individuals is disingenuous when one or two people get exclusive use of those plots. FC's already get company workshops. It isn't a lucrative money making enterprise for all in your FC. You get access to the diadem whenever you want (without waiting for a queue that'll never pop), you get exclusive mats and mounts, and you can build housing walls (even with retainers now bringing the old skins back.) You don't deserve to monopolize the places with three gardening plots too.

Yea I see that, I agree. I guess I just figured people with alot of active FC members, the leader would distribute the earned money or put it in a chest. I lead an FC with just 2 RL friends who don't want anything to do with gardening or managing gil, so I guess I am fortunate in that respect. But yea, i can totally see where your'e coming from with the different circumstances.

Assuming that everyone has the right to buy a house if they have the gil (meaning endless supply of housing), I would say if one has the money to buy a large house aka mansion, then they should be able to do so. I doubt this would mean that everyone is going to instantly have mansions since the price of buying houses increases drastically with increasing size.

I remember when large houses on Balmung cost 90mil+ from the server, lol.

I own a solo mansion and frankly I use it more than any FC I have been in since housing launched.

Many people who own personal housing do so because they want and use that housing. However FC have them because it helps with status. Sure some FC use their houses regularly but not to many people care all that much for a guild house when housing features are as stunted as they are. I can tell you from personal experience that I spent gillions on creating a wonderful and comfortably decorated FC house just to have it sit empty. Even when I had nearly 100 members and 20+ were online, not a single one was at the house, ever. People would join the FC, take a look at the house and never returned. Same with FC I belonged too but didn't manage.

I even have created chars on other servers to look at what people have done with their houses and FC houses are almost always empty while personal ones often had someone inside.

There is simply no reason for the average player to use FC housing. Everything outside of stables and gardens are available in any city state and the percentage of people who use these things seems low. Mostly due to things like gardening being limited and the stable is really only good for changing color or hoping other ppl will feed it and give your choco exp. For the average player, its basically a place to afk in and you can do that anywhere.

If they want to make housing super important to FCs they need to introduce something that appeals to more players than an afk spot.

tldr:
As long as housing is so limited it should be available for anyone who wants it and will use it. They need to make it more than a status symbol for FCs if they are going to restrict personal housing in any way.
