WHM because holy.
But in all seriousness WHM DPS is by far the most fun to me with Holy. I also enjoy having a larger amount of healing abilities compared to the other healers.
I split my time between WHM and SCH. I like the lore of both. WHM is nice for reactive healing and catching up after mistakes but in newer dungeons I can't heal and Holy very well. Been vacationing on SCH which has had better luck in roulette and which has easy to set DoTs and Shadowflare that give me faster flexibility in switching between extra damage (Broil) and healing.
I'm 70 in all 3, but I mained SCH from the start. I enjoy all 3 but SCH is my favorite, gameplay wise and story wise.
White Mage :)
I like to play reactive healing. But I like the Astrologian and Scholar, too!
You know.. I don't find whitemage to be a reactive healer. I find myself being more reactive on SCH or AST since you can't really spam shields without going OOM. Meanwhile on whitemage you can largesse + regen (or medica II) + asylum and ignore everyone for the entire duration.
Arcanist/Scholar. Why?Quote:
Which healer job are you? Why?
• Aesthetics. I'm a bookworm in real life, so the aesthetics suits me more than the other 2 classes.
• Absorb Shields/playstyle. I'm more comfortable preventing damage than healing it back, especially if the tank takes a ton of damage at once.
• Storyline. I remember very little about it, but it very much strikes me as The Origin of Zhuge Liang or something, like Diary of a Strategist or something like that.
I used to play as WHM because to me that's a FF healer, but because I'm leveling I'm dungeoning as SCH because I'm doing my non-dungeon non-trial MSQ as SMN, so it's quite convenient thanks to the level sharing for ACN to switch from one to the other.
And I quite like it! I know some people say SCH is easier than WHM, but I find it more complex and thus more interesting (so far at least, not 70 yet so that might change)
WHM.
I first started as a PLD, and back then you were forced to level CNJ to 16 to unlock the PLD stone.
Around Lv30 or so, I started running into dungeons that I did not understand very well (like Qarn) and I started feeling uncomfortable with tanking unfamiliar dungeons, so I figured I would level a healing class, and I already had CNJ on 16 so I dropped some dungeon greens on it, and Q'd up and I stuck with it.
I never saw reason to switch to SCH or AST because WHM does everything I need it to do, and I'm well-familiar with it. Someday I will level all the jobs, which will include SCH and AST, but unless they are just oh-so-much better than WHM, I will probably not use them in any serious content. WHM just has something I love about it, can't put my finger on it. It's simple to learn, but yet leaves room for mastery and it feels awesome to pull off awesome heals and some good DPS on the side and walk away with 3/3 commendations.
My favorite healing job is White Mage. I like the direct approach to my healing. My dps animations are really cool and I like the classic look of the job as well. The storyline for the white mage is also one of my favorites of the jobs I have leveled.
When I heal, I play AST. I fell in love with the job's design (Seriously, the AST Dress and hat are still the prettiest looking gear I've seen to date in this game.) but as time went on while leveling it, I loved how it played, I enjoy the card mechanics and the juggling of duties that the stances give the job. It is very fun.
Sadly I haven't had much time to play so I haven't been able to level AST to 70 (Let alone beat the base campaign of SB :x) but when I get through, I will bring my lovely AST back and have a grand old time! :D
During ARR and half of HW I mained SCH. But when time came and I was looking for a new group, I had to learn WHM. Now I guess I am a WHM main, but is kinda for the better cuz since SB hit, WHM now is pretty good. Being a WHM has its perks, the power to carry a team to a pretty good extent. and the DPS from WHM is so good. love it.
I play all three depending on the content and my party's setup/preference. Don't really have a personal favorite.
WHM I've always played, and nowadays I usually take it to random roulettes when I'm not 100% sure the rest of the party knows what to do. I like the extra healing and it's fun throwing PoC + Thin Air + StoneIV for bosses. It's my safe choise for new content as well.
SCH I played pre HW quite a lot as well, a little during HW, a little when it's shields were weaker than AST pre SB, and I'm leaning towards it again. Perfecting my shield timing! xD Like the challenge of SCH and micromanaging the fairy a lot.
AST I mained during HW when it was still weaker shield-wise compared to SCH, and nowadays I bring it if people ask for it. Also bringing it to stuff (like MSQ roulette) where I know stuff goes down quite easy and I do not spend that much time healing, so I've cards at least to keep me busy. I prefer noct AST over diurnal, but eitehr goes really.
I used to play WHM religiously back in ARR and HW before an ill-thought character change forced me to level healers all over again and I ended up picking up SCH for the fun of it. Now I honestly have a hard time going back to the more reactionary playstyle of WHM, especially as I mourn the loss of stance dancing. SCH is just a bit more engaging for me and more challenging as well since everything we do the other classes essentially do better in some way. Our shields are weaker than Noct Spec AST. Our damage while acceptable is middle of the road compared to WHM, and our healing output is lower than the other two classes. Yet in spite of the fact that the class is middle of the road in all aspects, it's the fact that we're decent at everything that allows the class to shine for me. We might not be able to shield better than an AST, but we can beat them at DPS. Damage is lower than WHM, but we actually have shields aplenty and ours aren't tied to the Lily Mechanic. Our healing is worse, but when combined with shields and DPS we make one hell of an off-healer. /Especially/ when we learn a particular fight inside and out. SCH when played by a player who knows what to expect and when to react just moves so perfectly that I frankly get addicted to trying to master each fight and the timings they contain.
Also a macro'd faerie is almost godlike if you're particular about the commands you set for it. Half of my mitigation and healing skills are macro'd for SCH and it really does make all the difference.
As for AST, I've played a fair bit of it but I don't have it to 70 on any character at this time. So far though I like it but it just doesn't hold a candle to the other two for me, though that /might/ be because I'm terribad with the cards. >.>
I only started playing in July. I main a BLM but I picked up WHM somewhere along the way and lvled it up to 34 before I got into HW. Then I picked up AST and it's my second class now. I like the challenge of it; I like having a lot of things to manage at the same time (heal, buffs/cards, mp, etc) and there's still so much to learn for me. I'm almost to 70 on it, but it's still challenging (especially since I don't know all the fights really well yet). Plus, the animations for AST spells are, in my opinion, some of the nicest.
SCH has always been my go to main job since ARR. I just started playing again after a two year hiatus and I have definitely noticed the chances to SCH with the updated tool kit. I always played utility support roles from previous mmo's and the micromanagement with fairies give me a level of control that I prefer to have. However since 4.0, I have also noticed that SE has some less than stellar changes to SCH.
I may put some effort into AST and see where that leads me to the duration of Stormblood once I finish the story, but until then, SCH is my primary choice of a main healer job.
When I started my career in FFXIV as a fresh-faced level one pleb with no clue, I started as Gladiator. This was a slow process, one that was hindered by an already slow/boring early-game. I quit at about level 20.
After being encouraged to return about 6months later, I decided a DPS class would be a better start, so picked up Pugil/Monk - I was relatively happy and reached level 57, leading to the 'experimental phase' of levelling other classes.
Tried Conjurer and fell in love. Dropped all other classes and went from 1 to max. Why did WHM become my main? It's simple. It's effective. It has a bit of everything - delicious as a solo type of player, as well as shorter queues, AoE madness, and the satisfaction of smashing everything with boulders.
