This.
And use return when you need to leave Kugane. If return is down, then as Krojack said teleport to your house/FC house/Apartment. If you have a house strategize a bit, for instance my house is in Lavender beds (cheap teleport), return is set to Ul'dah (free teleport), and FC house is in Mists (cheap teleport), and if you don't have a house I think you can still teleport to an apartment. Speaking of FC's I believe there's an active buff that reduces teleport costs, talk to your FC about having it up more often.
Moreover, 999 gil is nothing. As someone that does not craft and very rarely ever gathers, I'm sitting on 21 mil with a medium house. Earning gil in this game is not as hard as people make it out to be.
I rarely have 7 digit figures on my character. I still think prices should be increased. Although admittedly this is a necro response, point still stands as someone else already brought this thread back.
The cap is also applied before any favourite/house-port savings (hence the 249gil cap on porting to my apartment). I believe they should lift this cap. Teleports to other continents should cost a few tens of thousands of gil at least. Want to save money? Get teleport vouchers from the hunts people. Use those for the big teleports, and they also give you something else to spend your seals on.
One concession I will make regarding this though is these should be available from the grand companies. Ventures cost 4 allied seals or 200 GC seals, so the tickets should cost 250 company seals (as they cost 5 allied seals each, inb4 they're already available and I'm just blind).
How do people find these year-old topics? >.<
I think the teleport prices are fine as is.
I realize this thread was necro'd for some reason (and I didn't read through every page), but I want to point out the extreme flaw in logic from the OP...
It's precisely BECAUSE I do hunts that I'm sitting on 900+ Aetheryte Tickets. Admittedly, I don't use my tickets for every port... my personal cutoff is 300 gil. If the teleport costs 300 gil or less, then I don't use a ticket. Even before the increase in the quantity of items in a stack from 99 to 999 I almost always had 99 Aetheryte Tickets on hand, as I topped them every other day or so when visiting my Squadron. Now I usually top them off whenever I hit 4k Allied Seals (I also buy ventures with them to burn seals so I don't have to make trips JUST to spend seals as often).
Even if you are only doing HW/SB Hunts... I'm fairly certain you can buy Aetheryte Tickets with Centurio Seals in the Forgotten Knight in Ishgard.
If you hunt, then teleport prices should be a non-issue...
One expert dungeon is enough gil to pay for many, many teleports.
Optimizing your travel loop goes a long way along with FC Reduced Rates 2 buff:
1. Kugane is my home/return point.
2. Limsa is a favored destination so less than 500 gil
3. Rhalgr's reach is a free destination (I think this was due to security token)
4. Foundation is a favored destination (Either no. 4 or 5 is favoured destination due to installing and registering the Companion App...and then deleting it.)
5. Idyllshire is a favored destination
6. FC house is in Lavender Beds so Gridania is cheap from there. Also TP from Rhalgr's reach to FC house is ~107 gil
Only Ul'dah is not covered by cheap teleports but could probably be as well if I took the time to see who on my friend's list has a house or an apartment in The Goblet.
I'm in favour of increasing teleport costs. This game does not have enough gil sinks. I think fast travel options like teleports means people spend lesser time appreciating the vast world of Hydaelyn.
I have Limsa as my free port from having an authenticator, Rhalgr's Reach for my "Return" spell location (also free), Foundation, Gridania, and Uldah as my favorites (all max 499 before discounts), and I also have my apartment in Shirogane (max 249 before discounts) for a cheap port to Kugane/Othard. I also do the weekly squadron mission that gives 10 tickets that cut the costs on teleports by 40% for 2 hours each.
Atomos hoodwinked us so hard. He was all like "let me make them believe by destroying my clones that they're defending their crystals, I'll even give them "free" anima to teleport with" each time we struck him down he just implanted himself deeper into the crystals, and now he's been able to extort the GC for gil to keep them operating, he's now richer than Godbert!!!
The maintenance cost is a sham, fight back sheeple! :3
(Made that up of course, well except the killing Atomos at crystals and getting anima - good times).
On point of the thread, gil costs are not bad if you can get your FC/House/Appartment, Free Teleport, Return, and Favored(s) in a good spot. I don't think I spend more than 250 except when I'm lazy to port to a closer free place first.. which unfortunately happens more than it should lol.
You can circumvent teleport costs for a long while by just tagging along for a bunch of ARR A/S ranks.
One A = ten aetheryte tickets, and one S = 25.
I don't often notice teleport prices, tbh. You earn enough gil just by playing the game, running content, hunts etc. to replace what you spend porting around. :o
Plus, if you're selling things on the market board, that only makes teleporting less of a worry - especially if you have a decent income coming in, it's completely unnoticeable.
I have Rhalgrs set to Home.
Uldah, Limsa and Ishgard as favourites.
Then FC in Lavender beds and apartment in Shirogane.
Pretty much covers most places with a route for under 999g.
Imagine being so poor you look at teleport prices.
Gil is super easy to get in this game. Do not see how prices are too expensive. Maybe to a new player but that's fine. Always thought there was way too much teleporting in this game..
I would use the chocobos more if it were better designed. Several stops are not available where they should be. It should cross more maps and the interface should be map based. I want to hop on a bird in Southern Thanalan and ride to Moghome, even if it takes 10 minutes.
Another game I played, I think, handled teleporting much better than FFXIV does. Rather than charging you based off distance, they charged you based off frequency. So if you just teleported to Gridiania and wanted to teleport to Fallgourd Float, that would cost you 999 gil, but if you hadn't teleported in an hour or so and wanted to go from Gridiana to Kugane, that might cost you 100 gil. Additionally to help new players, its equivalent would be that teleporting by interacting with the large aethercyte crystals was free, and alternately there would be no preferred teleport destinations, and no return spell.
With:it is near to impossible do a teleport at full price.
- free destination;
- favored destination;
- GC teleport tickets;
- Saucer teleport half price;
- Return;
And some people have also the Eternity Ring and Friendship Circlet.
But, let say everything above does not exists: when you are 70, the teleport price can-not/must-not be an issue.
Ralhgars reach set to home and free teleport to hall of flames and tokens to teleport.
Plus retainer ventures give you money.
Also there is a FC action that reduces cost by 30%.
You have to be teleporting like crazy to where the prices are so expensive that you lose money daily.
i got idleshire for free an apartment in shirogane for cheep teleport to that half of the world and the 3 city states as my favoured locations with realgar's reach since it is meant to be the end "hub" once 5.0 drops that hub is getting my free placement if that costs extra as well..
there are loads of options to lower that cost as much as you can.
I have my home set to Kugane, I have a house in Mist, and have key points set to free or favored locations, like Idyllshire, Rhalgr's Reach, etc. so getting around rarely costs the full 999 gil. You just have to get creative. I guess I have experience from playing FFXI and not being able to teleport myself. :rolleyes:
Buy Aetheryte tickets and you won't pay for a teleport ever again. I haven't paid for one in the three or so months since I was introduced to them; they're a god-send. Even if you want to save one kind of hunt seals for some reward, doing the weekly B rank and some daily hunt bills for the other kind whenever you're bored cuts out a good chunk of your teleport fees.
Obviously you weren't around for 1.0 teleport cost were 100 gil/level. For a level 50 character that meant 5000 Gil no matter where you went. These prices are cheap.
Back in XI for years you were paying 1000 gil to random white mages when you were in a hurry....
