They look awesome and I would change instantly to them if they would become playable. At least if the female version looks like that too and not as a hyur with doggy ears..>_>
Being realistic I fear that those are only from a future beast tribe. V_V

I would love any more furry race! I would fantasia to this in a second, lol. This or Viera would be awesome. Though I would prefer the wolf race.
The biggest reason I see why this can't/won't be a playable race is not about how a headgear would fit the head.
It's about the facial expressions.
We all know that FFXIV heavily use the Facial Expressions in Cutscenes.
I can imagine that it can be quite tricky to make all the facial expressions work well with a face like that, and that (to me personally) would be a dealbreaker whether or not they should be implemented.
I do still hope they can be a potential candidate for a new playable race.
Well as long as the character still can nod a lot it will be fine ;)
Lol facial expressions. Unless you are wearing one of the 2 piece tank armours. Those are always funny when something happens and your character has no reaction because you can't see your face XD.
I think probably the chance of them being playable is just about 0. Would be fun to have but most points as to why were already mentioned.
I'm hoping they become a playable race in 5.0. If old armor/helmets would work (or perhaps their ears would just stick through), it would be fine. We have the "cannot equip gear to head" option on clothing anyway.
But they are probably just a beast tribe -- maybe one focused on gathering instead of crafting? Perhaps they are how we get the red fiery Fenrir mount.
Sorry to be a party pooper but they won't become a playable race IMO.
You westerners might like this kind of races but in the Asia side it's not popular, so if SQEX wants to make a new playable race they need to make it just so that it appeals to all 3 regions.
After all, why create a playable race that only the 1 or 2% of player population enjoys it while the rest does not like it.
I'd be okay with just having the mask or tail too. :)
I'd be okay with these being playable IF, and that's a HUMONGOUS FRIGGING MAJOR IF, I could believe they would/could make an anthro race with a full range of emotional expression, with a variety of different faces that legit are different faces and not just a fur pattern change, and there was a noticeable level of sexual dimorphism (if I can't tell the difference between the male and the female in a noticeable way, no thanks.)
Already been burned by WoW before, when they introduced the copy paste, might as well be a trash mob, Worgen race. They didn't even learn their lesson and released another later, the panda race... not as bad as worgen but, still copy pasta.
Trying and managing are different things. Being "adventurers" does not equate to being the warrior of light. The whole story would have to be changed in several points to accommodate a member of any beast tribe in that role, and it simply won't happen.
Ultimately, I'm sure Square Enix will implement another playable race sooner or later, but with a MMORPG on this level of maturity, they will go where the obvious money is, and that's Viera. I'm sure there's absolutely no one who really believes that a beast race of any kind would be as effective (even on the same planet) in bringing back lapsed players and bringing in new players as Viera would be. And that's where the money is.
As much as some appear to enjoy it, furry is a niche taste.
Of course, everyone is free to hold their breath as much as they want, but just remember to take in some air once in a while :D
Actually, 1-2% is probably correct if we talk about Asia. Even Roegadyn is already massively underpopulated in Asia and Europe, with only 4% of the population. Only in the US, that goes up to 6%, but that's still by far the less popular race. Add furry to that, and you'll get even worse penetration among Asian players.

Monster races simply aren't as popular as some appear to think, especially in Japan. The only animal traits that are welcomed there are minor, with the race retaining 90% human features (catgirls, bunny girls and so forth). That's also why miqo'te have been made more human-like and less feral than FFXI's mithra.
Yeah, I'm just gonna stick to being adorable.
It's possible eventually, but there is going to have to be some serious work done to make them actually look unique. At the risk of sounding racist against wolf people, I feel that the ones we see in the trailer look very samey.
Their opposing faction (i think) dog race is kind cool too.

Even in these examples, it's clear that a more human form is adopted for these "bestial" characters. In my opinion (worth $%^&, i understand) characters of greater... feral forms still seem like something not fitting in the roster of playable characters. Muzzles, quadrupeds, excessive body/ facial fur, extra limbs, wings, horns, tails, tentacles, ect... Simply don't adhere to the current design concepts of SE.
Bless Online full Hieron form:
Is much more feasible and relatable in the FFXIV world (aside from full beast mode attributed to both races in game)
Bless Online race group example (including full beast modes):
This i think accurately represents what many game companies feel is "Beastly" enough. As opposed to current popular games that have more under used "Beastly" options for characters.
WoW Tuaren (i would have used Orc, but feel they are just human forms painted green with bad posture)
GuildWars2 Charr
Options simply not chosen near as often as opposed more characters with more human features.
I personally wouldn't play a race like this, but i don't understand the response of the "my favorite kinds of races are more popular" crowd. We've got enough to choose from imo.
I'd be happy to see the devs put the addition of yet more moe blob races on the back burner in favor of something bestial, powerful, or "ugly" so we could have some more diverse racial designs.
It would be nice to see some sort of winged looking angel like race based off of the likeness of Garuda with a few more beastial traits to make it look less typical human race than the others are. Kinda like how male Auri with their scary/demonic appearance. I could see this race as being rival or enemy race of the Auri from a different land; possibly a new continent drifting in the clouds somewhere outside of Eorzea.
A cyborgnetic race created from the Allagans failed experiments to create to races could be another idea. Their bodies could vary in size like the high and lowlander hyur, bodies have different racial and metalic patterns such as lizard skin on one side of the face with kittty ears on the other with unique pulsating eyes where theeyes are completely black except the irises and pupils which pulsate a light sutle flash of energy each time their hearts beat. Basically cyborg mutants. XD
I would love to see this wolf race be an offical playable race added into the game, but if not I hope we get some kind of dog/wolf-like race to be a sworn enemy or rival of the Miqo'te race. It'd be nice if they were the reverse of how the Miqo'te are as well where there are mostly males with few females in this race and instead being cutsy, they're tall, fierce and intimidating; at least standing around the same height as the male Roegydans (hope I spelled that right XD ) with either sleek and well groomed or booshy and wild fur with either long or short or stubby tails. Also visiable claws and fangs too, the scarier the better!
Annnnddd....now I'm done! Okay that was my two cents here, hope it wasn't too much stuff, bye. XD
You mean kinda like the Aegyl of Ivalice?

I don't understand why it always have to be "We against them", "This or that" kind of mindset all the time.
Do you like Viera, sure. Nothing wrong with that.
Do you like something else (Wolfman is the hot topic atm), sure. Nothing wrong with that.
Do you want either of them in the game, sure.
There's no need to go all offensive and fight for one or the other.
Show your interest and support instead.
Fighting over if some pixels will get added to a game is just childish.
Why does it matter if someone else wants something you dont? How does that effect your everyday life?
Does it feel like "your side" is losing if you don't stand up and fight for it?
There's already been an inverview where Yoshida said not to give up hope on Viera.
So he knows that alot from the FFXIV community wants them.

The thing with the Wolf People is that they are the first Beastmen we've seen that's wearing "normal" armour that you and I can use.
Which alot of people hinted at that it could be possible for it to be playable sometime in the future.
And what's wrong with that?
Maybe not as many people want a Wolfman in the game because they themselves would not play it.
But others might? And is that wrong?
Sure, the work to implement anything costs. But if SE wants to they could implement anything they see fit.
Personally I see that the more being implemented the more diversity we get.
Which adds to a more living world in my opinion.
While there may be value in saying there is a more desired race so do that I do believe that there is also some value in creating a tapestry piece race, even if it isn't most popular as it can be used to help diversify all the races at once (one race to greatly effect the others).
Just to be lazy with colors for example, lets say the more similar the race is the more similar the colors are - I'm sure people can imagine a few great paintings that use a very small selection of colors but I also know (if you've seen a lot of art) that you can make some truly amazing contrast points that really note everything even more when not every detail is the same (like the Japanese Water Temples, the red contrasting and complementing greatly with the vast colors of blue around it). Benefit of it not being equal is that the people who wanted that stand out color can really feel stand out as all get out lol, but majority colors can still be popular ones. Anyways, not suggesting it must be unique but also saying that there is /some/ reason why you could go not most popular and it still be a visual benefit to everyone (in the long run, undoubtedly you will have complaints that it wasn't XYZ because that's what majority wanted).
As for the lore they'd obviously have to be smart about it but I doubt that it would be impossible for them to work around it. Also the wolf ones could be fairly simple just with the primal curse / Garlean experiment jazz. That way they don't even have a back story, and you gain access to them via the story, which means you've already worked hard on a lot of the xenophobia - SE can work around your change future forward rather than looking in the past. Probably making it one of the easiest races to implement due to the fact they'd have no culture to reference and few plots to adjust. This sort of race within a race idea could be used on some other options as well, if SE wanted to let players become some sort of Vincent Vampire thing for example... earning your self optional body glamour could be interesting (do a quest that drops you into the lifestream, unlock yourself Cloud eyes lol).
Then again this is probably why I suggested the race equipment a few pages ago, it gives SE and us a lot of visual freedom without having to create the entire structure (saving money) - so if you wanted the crazy wolf face and the digitigrade feet you'd just accept the fact that you're going to glamour it on that slot and NOT be able to use a helm / boots because you chose it (as again like the really cool more bestial Au Ra features could become tribal race unlocks that take the place of equipment, gaining you scales and crazy horns).
It is pretty annoying and SE have proved they're willing to make something that will be unpopular. Example of this is the female Roegadyn. Back in 1.0, I'm pretty sure Roegadyn were still in the low % of played races, yet even despite this, SE still made the female Roegadyn playable and even though they're less popular than the males, there are people who play them and love that they're in the game.
That all said, if this race were planned to be playable at some point in the future, then I don't care if Viera are also added at some point. Be it before or after, both sides are getting something they like.
Please no more furry races. It brings...not the best people to the game.
A little, but without the wings attached to the back; that would cause terrible clipping. XD I was thinking of a humanoid Ixali playable race with feathers placed sticking out across and covering the upper arms in light color plumage with a thinner feathers covering most of their backs and chest save for the middle of the chest and stomach; along with more light feathers covering the upper part of the legs with some plumage sticking out like on the arms with bird like scales complety covering both the feet and hands with calw like fingernails like the Gold Saucer's glamour finger gear, except a little shorter.
A lighter set of scales on the face made to look and feel close to like skin though not like the dotted scale bits on the Auri and more like it covers the whole face and neck. Their hair would also be made out of feathers, but much thinner similar to hair but still noticeably different with a few hairstyles that only they could pull off. And the eyes, they have this vibrant and radiant piercing like stare like a hawk or eagles with eye color that can have one solid color in one or both eyes and a lighter additional color added into the background of the colored eyes; completely different from the Auri eye rings amd more like noticeable specks of colorful star dust in the background of colored night sky. And the eyebrows, thin and short with a sort of frown or worrisome look to them.
I was thinking this race clans could have two distinctly different main features between the two like the hyur have. Like one is a taller darker colored predatory bird clan that take closely after vultures, hawks and or eagles while other is a docile skittish clan made up of various colorful smaller birds (don't have any examples for this one since I don't know birds very well).
Hmm, that's all I have for this race for now. :/
We already also have a race that is in the game but that isnt playable. The padjal Race:

the one with horns.
I personally would play them.
But maybe the Padjal race should stay exclusive to the lore (being rare and close to nature), well.
And maybe it would look awkward having horns looking through helmets to each side.
