Only in the Au Ra concept art. No viera in the other games have tails.

Not particularly. But then, I'm willing to bet there are thousands of entitled, not-particularly-wise people out there who would blow a fuse if SE didn't at least try to make some sort of excuse.

The real reason we shouldn't (not necessarily won't; but shouldn't) see Viera is it is an utter waste of development resources. It adds absolutely nothing to FFXIV's content, nothing to FFXIV's storyline. The ONLY benefit would be one more pair of options for an amazingly large contingent of players who seem to want nothing more from an MMO than a dress-up simulator (not that FFXIV is lacking for options in this department).

Personally I wish SE would just come out with a flat "No."

I remember reading an interview where Yoshi-P said that they didn't want to add viera because they were to similar to Female Roegadyn and Elezen which are very unpopular with players.

It was also stated that this is the reason why Au Ra was created smaller and less beastlike due to the unpopularity of tall races.

This reasoning is very similar to F2P MMOS like Tera where they make special jobs/gear only for popular Races(Elin), its because they want to market for the majority of whats popular rather than the minority, for the fear no one would use them.

Naw, he said Viera were too similar to Miqo'te.

Why are people so hell bent on viera? Is it because of Fran? I honestly don't see the appeal. You have bunny clothes already, use that. If we ever get a new race, please make it unique. We don't need another hyur with animal parts attached.

It's because way back in 1.0 they ran a poll about what sort of new race people would like to see. They had 5 options: Humanlike, mammalian demi-human, reptilian demi-human, mammalian beastman, and reptilian beastman. They gave examples for each race, and unfortunately for mammalian demi-human they gave the example of "viera". Of course everyone misread that and went "ZOMG I WANT MAH BUNNY GIRLS!" assuming that was a promise that viera would be added to the game if that poll option won. Of course, it won in a landslide.

Yoshi was pretty solid on his stance on not adding this particular race. I wouldn't expect him to back peddle on this, he has a pretty good history of holding fast in the face of strong public opinion.

Disregard what he said about how Warriors and Astrologians were fine... yep, he wont budge in the face of incredible public opinion.

People should stop making two mutually exclusive arguments together. Either it's too much work to redesign everything for a very different race, or [insert race] is too similar to other races and needs to be more distinct. It's one or the other, it can't be both. So all races will always look similar/humanoid to save work, not a Viera specific issue.


I think Yoshi P is put on the spot a lot but he says a lot of things that can't be true. Like saying adding more appearance options lagging servers like crazy. People have pointed out the appearance data fits into 4 bytes, that's 4 letters of text, so character names have much more data. Increasing the amount of data should only make old beep beep beep modems lag 20 years ago, or having only 500 mb ram total.

I don't blame them because they don't have wikipedia when they answer questions in the spur of the moment but some of the answers to requests are wrong or weak. It can't be helped.

I was actually wondering why people seem to have an obsession with the race in general. I don't see the appeal of bunny people or why the gold saucer bunny costume doesn't take care of that.

I mean look at that concept art, doesn't she looks freaking amazing with her demonic features ?! But, "oh crap, we would have to redesign gloves and shoes ?!" (note how they did not even redesigned helmet....) sooooo "lets just add horns and a new tail on Miquo'ts and call it a day !"

I'd wouldn't mind more customization options for current races before we get a new race.

A new race isn't appealing to me at all. For one thing it costs ten bucks to change.

I would love for there to be more face types though, and sliders to create more unique looks.

First of all, your thread comes across as very rude to the development staff who work very hard to bring us as much content as they can. Maybe you should look up a video of how games are made, they are very intense and time consuming.

That concept art is amazing and one of things I was looking forward to with the Au Ra. Now obviously concept art and actual implementation can vary wildly, but I think they went in the wrong direction with the Au Ra. Not that I think the Au Ra are badly designed, but I would have preferred they leaned towards the "badass demonic" type of features compared to what we got. The males at least still carry some semblance of that but not the females.

im just gonna say it ... all the negetive comments aged poorly .... hopefully this teaches at the very least try not to invent reasons not to do a thing and think of reasons it may be doable before hopping on just to be adversarial .... at the very least there wont be a perminate record of you being wrong as a foot in lava lmao

Aged poorly in what way? Most of the concerns and potential issues raised during this thread ended up happening or proven otherwise to be correct. The race was watered down substantially to fit the game compared to previous iterations of Viera. Not to mention that the only remaining distinguishing racial feature results in most headgear not displaying.

It took two expansions for the race to be 'complete' in its implementation as far as male/female goes, but even saying that is generous considering they are still missing hairstyles that the other races have access to.
