The only Relic who looks good for me is the MCH one, all others are not my taste.
go to limsa battle vender. buy yourself a nice level 10 axe. glam it over your current axe. there a practical axe. looks just like the new relic axe dont it. sigh im making a immensely powerful wepon. i expect it to be poping off like a dam super nova. not this. even the glow looks cheap. i dont even want to finish the dam thing now if it wasent for raid i realy wouldn't.
imagine two designers
After they are done, one says: "oh shit, let me fix that"
The other replies: "No time for that!"
It's just a bad work the team made and I'm pretty dissapointed of it.

Feels bad...
I love the Dragoon one. The glow unsheathed was very pleasantly surprising. I do however wish they did more on the pole itself, like added some extra glowing writing like how it is on some of the other weapons, But I still really really like it.
I do agree, though. the WAR one is disappointing, especially after all the work it takes to get it. I'd feel shafted and would want my lore back.
My FC mates keep linking me level 15-49 axes and saying "look it's your relic!" XD
I'll be glamoring my Ragnarok Zeta over it, methinks.
I think the glow looks sweet.
I don't even want to address that WAR relic, my Ragnarok Zeta is a flood of emotions. Then there's DRK, how the hell did I go from wielding Soul Edge to a rejected prototype of Kylo Ren's lightsaber.

I actually disliked the attempt at soul edge primarily due to scaling. Maybe it's just me but it looked awkwardly too wide on a miqo'te scale, even though I absolutely loved the design. Like a giant demon fang. As far as the WAR relic I'm alright with it's base, but the glow effect just feel's wrong. That doesn't show a warrior who channel's the power of their rage to turn into a one man army. It's too soft and elegant. But at the same time Nothing will replace Baruva Atma for me.
The shape of the axe isn't an issue. Its what is done with it when its used. The WAR weapon feels understated but honestly I find the BRD one way too over stated and the MCH and DRG ones rather gourdy. However other people like then.\
Why do people keep talking about spending lore? This step cost almost no lore. Actually it cost no lore if you didn't want to spend lore. The Lore step was for a previous step and people seemed pretty happy with the model they got for that lore.
I'm happy about the look of the Astrologian one. It feels like you're holding a planet and the spinning part is the core of said planet.
Looking at the Warrior relic more thoroughly, I think just altering the effect would go a long way into redeeming the appearance. Imagine if the blue hues exploded and gave the impression as the relic was a raging inferno not unlike what Paladin has. The simplicity when sheathed works fine, but it's the barely noticeable effects which really hamper the overall aesthetic. Like someone else mentioned, it doesn't remotely give off explosive inner beast vibe associated with Warrior.
After looking at the WAR relic more thoroughly over the last few days.. It appears the glow is an "extension" of the axe head in the shape of what looks to be more Ragnarok-like..
What I am hoping for is the i275 base model (without glow) extends the axe head to those glowy bits, then the glow is on top of that. I would honestly be fine with that as I am not really a huge fan of glow on most weapons.. Fairly subdued glows are more my thing..
I absolutely like "elegant" weapons, but I don't like stale / overly basic designs. It's almost like SE let an intern design a few of the new relics.. The base models just look so plain.
It's almost like they don't realise that 90% of the time the weapons are sitting on our back.. The base model actually has to look good - not just the glow.
The atrocious 270 weapons give me little hope for the 275 versions, but we'll see what happens.
Only BLM/WHM/PLD look nice to me. AST is... not my type. Not a fan of orange, especially since the vast majority of our spells are blue.
Yeah this is my feeling on the subject. I very recently decided to switch from DRK to WAR (so my static wouldn't have double DRK) and got the Sharpened Axe of the Blood Emperor literally the Sunday before patch, and I'm a bit disappointed by how uninspired the next step is. It really does just look like a level 20 axe on my back, and even the glow is not very impressive (especially compared to some of the other relics).
On the plus side, this is exactly the situation that glamour is for.
If this keeps up, Warriors upset about this perfectly acceptable Anima Weapon that they personally dislike may very well unseat Bards whining about The Wanderer's Minuet as Eorzea's Whiniest Job Players.
I don't mind the final weapon designs. in fact i like them a lot. I find designs that are simplistic in shape but have a lot of detail worked into them amazing. it's the reason why i liked bravura and parashu so much over its upgraded variants, and why i used a vintage viking sword as my go-to glamour until amalace dropped into my lap. I love how they are simple in shape, yet elegantly detailed. i love how the glow effect (on the bladed weapons at least) compliments, rather than overpowers. the weapon designers really outdid themselves imo.
However, my partialness to simple-yet-elegant weapon designs does not blind me to the dislike some have with the weapons. at a glance, they do look overly simplistic and uninspiring. some of the shapes are even just updated versions of low level weapons. i get it.
So, being sick lately, seeing this post really made me cheer up. The fact that someone asked if the freaking axe design was a bug had me crying from laughing so hard. XD But sadly I'm not a fan of most of the new relic designs myself, Bard is the best in my opinion. Ninja daggers are really bad compared to the ones before (Spurs will forever be my favorite daggers for my beloved ninja <3) Not sure what they were thinking with the warrior axe, and the DRK sword is upsetting as well. It's sad that so many people will glamour over the relics they worked so hard to obtain :(
People are speculating on Reddit that what we see now, was actually meant to be the i275 version, and they messed up and gave us the glow versions of the relics early....
Can you even imagine running around with those super basic models WITHOUT glow for a patch cycle? Haha...
I mentioned this in an earlier post, so I'll post the pictures this time.

The above image is the current i270 DRK weapon, as we know the glow effect is wispy and yellow. The image below is the final form of the DRK weapon. It's clear that the glow effect becomes soild and more pronounced, as well as changes color (purple for DRK cause their soulstone I believe)

Another thing to note, the entire questline is about creating a weapon with a soul, a living weapon. The glow effect is representative of the soul, which is why the base weapon is so simplistic. The emphasis is on the glow effect, not the weapon itself.
when i first saw the warrior Axe i was like: This is a bug right? This is no weapon.. its a plastic toy.
I feel sorry for NIN/DRK/WAR, their animas look so boring. :(
DRK at least looks modestly cool. I still feel like the design is lazy, but less so than the NIN and WAR. DRK at least resembles something, even if that "Something" is all just re-used assets. NIN and WAR meanwhile not only look even lazier, but boring besides. WAR is just this dinky little Labrys with some flame-effects, like a cheapened version of the old Zeta. It's really pathetic when you compare it to the new PLD Anima. And then the NIN just looks like... a plain pair of daggers with a glow. The glow doesn't even add to the look like all the other weapons, even WAR. It's just... a glow.
I do admit I am a tad confused on some relics, like the DRK and WAR they look amazing and badass, but then its like they fizzle out and we end up with a basic design. The DRK is still nice looking but I don't think it is anywhere near as amazing as the previous stages and I feel.
This has been the theme since the original relic questline in ARR. The glowy stuff is the soul of the weapon - sure.. .Doesn't mean the weapon has to look like an Iron Labrys or dual-wield Iron Gladius....
Compare the latest model with Ragnarok for WAR or Sasuke's Blades for NIN (which is probably my favourite weapon design for NIN) as a final step and you should understand. The glows were still fairly flashy and well defined, but the weapons didn't look fresh out of Battlecraft NPC in Limsa marketplace..
They were both also rather "simplistic" but obviously had quite a decent amount of work put into designing them.
To me it's rather apparent that a lot of the weapon designs were rushed, too much focus was spent on the glow effects, and that they were trying too hard to be creative and produce something different.
The texture pattern and detail on some of those base models is dirt poor. It looks like they were copy+paste out of an old MMO like FF11.
Do the glows look good / have some effort put into them? Sure (most of them). The base models is what really bothers a lot of people, myself included.
