Probably not until 5.0 if you want proper support.
4.0 if you just want them to transfer existing DX11 straight over to DX12.

It's as if it's 2016 and changes are much easier to implement now or something, compared to 10+ years ago.
To be serious it's really quite simple why players are happy; they want the game to grow! Even small QOL changes will make a large impact. I honestly doubt most people taking about graphical overhauls are expecting a miracle (Aside from High Quality Textures). Do you think holding on to obsolete hardware is better for the lifespan of the game?
I read many opinions on forums, but never was someone talking about graphics. This is about features people want and them thinking the ps3 was holding the game back in their opinion. Imo this is good for the game and now very old pc are replacing the ps3 as the minimum requirement, because while the ps4 isn't that strong, it is still better than some old pc people i know play on. Everything has to move forward at some point, despite the fact that some people may not have the money to afford better hardware any time soon.
Butt sliders, better looking egis, hi-res textures are some of the graphical things people are talking about in this thread. All of these things can exist even if the PS3 is still supported. My point is dropping the PS3 support is more of a benefit to a server issue, as well as a financial benefit for Square Enix. I think people are going to over hype themselves into believing what an actual impact this will make to their visual gameplay.
I still think the ps3 was holding us back... Like the same old animations for X skills ( because the ps3 hadn't enough memory to got more ?)
And yeah better textures will Come, for sure.
Your funny. You can get a decent gaming pc for 500 dollars. Such as an Asus Ibuypower, on Cyber Monday you catch one on ebay for around 350.Quote:

So, I guess the news that the platform I no longer play the game on is no longer supporting the game doesn't affect me in the slightest, now. I mean, they told us they were going to do this a very long time ago, they just moved the schedule up one expansion... At least they waited for the PS4 to come down considerably in price! And once the new one comes out, it'll probably go even lower.
Also, with the PS4, I don't have to drag my ethernet cable across the room every time I want to play now, and the graphics are better and the movements are smoother and the visual lag has gone down and... it's just so much better.
That is because FFXI was always developed with the PS2 as the leading platform, using the PS2 development tools (even now, in 2016). So they couldn't actually improve any visuals without rewriting the client from scratch, basically. Shutting down the console servers was more of cost saving decision than anything else in that case. The situation is different for XIV, so adding things that were constrained by PS3 memory issues before (like bringing back party buff display, for example) is technically feasible. Whether or not it will actually happen, is another question, of course.
No they can't, because they wouldn't have worked with the PS3, and the devs have said already that they want everyone's experience to be roughly the same so there wouldn't be for example HD textures for PC only while PS3 still has to use the current ones.
That's why the PS3 going away is giving people hope, that's all :)
And then you have other visual things that were reportedly the PS3's limits' fault, like how much detail they could put into every hairstyle and the like, which will no longer be a concern now.
PS3 dropping support is going to be beneficial for the game, yes. However, that doesn't mean people are suddenly disgusting creatures for playing on ps3 all this time. Some people don't have the money for a ps4 and as much as I like to joke around with one of my friends that doesn't have ps4, I do it in jest. The stuff I read here is questionable and inhuman.
And SE will report that they lost 750k users.
And in the end, we'll eventually see FFXI happen all over again when SE closed the doors on PS2 and Xbox 360 a few months ago. Sadly, I was actively subbed to FFXI from 2005 until around Nov 2015. At some point, FFXIV will only be available on PC with developers just keep it clean of bugs and other issues that pop up.
Oh well!
Not sure what kind of TV you're using, but I'm pretty sure most modern TVs you can buy don't have a problem like that. The game looks amazing on PS4 compared to how it looks on PS3. PS3 version looked like someone smeared grease on the screen after I first played the PS4 version.
Ending PS3 support absolutely frees up resources for SE. First off it's an additional platform that needs some level of custom code developed for it for every lower level functional change. PS3 and PS4 are not compatible code-wise and there has to be some level of platform specific development occurring.
Additionally the minimum support spec always holds back software development particularly for graphically intensive software. In this case not having to work around the PS3 memory and graphics restrictions will also free up some development and quality/testing resources.
PS4 will likely still be viable for some time. Although it is only at this point equivalent to a low to mid level desktop pc it is optimized for playing video games and so has more capability in this regard than a pc of equivalent specs. It is also running a more efficient, less background intensive OS than windows. So in this respect with PS3 gone it is low end PCs that are now holding the game back (even with increased requirements for these).
Finally, all of this only frees up the opportunity for SE to use these resources in developing further enhancements for FFXIV. What they actually do with this is of course up to them and may have no impact on our game.
"I'm not generalizing, but have you ever noticed how awful PC players are in general?" Wew lad
Alright calm down, i was generalizing, it's just this thread it's not very nice you know to belittle the ps3 players for the system they play on.
i wouldn't be surprised if half the people belittling them are PS4 players anyway
there's really no reason to still be using a 10 year old machine to play an actively growing online game, people have had like what 4-5 years? to save up 300$
it sucks for console players i guess but thats just part of life, eventually people need to move on from old things
