In what reality does it make sense to allow crafters and gatherers the ability to spend guild marks on gear, but remove guild marks completely for battle classes? I shouldn't have to point out the issues that would cause.
Credits to go toward those achievements that screwed over DoL/DoH50. 10 per "gather" seems fair.
I like the idea to be able to get GC seals with GM but I would also like a one time NPC that let you get old seasonal event items in exchange for Guild Marks, like the swimsuits and such. Gil would be nice too. :D
I dont see the problem here. Battle classes have no need for marks. They can get gear through leve rewards. But regardless take gear out of my idea, but let them exchange marks for most mats. Its not like mats are incredibly abundant atm. A friend of mine cant level his weaver with the money he has cause theres not any mats in the wards, aside very overpriced items.
convert them 10:1 into seals.
Special Guildleves that give increased rewards (like gil, EXP, equipment, and etc.)
And maybe you could spend marks to get a better buff for crafting facilities, or DoW/DoM/DoL can get special buffs for their things.
EDIT: Or trade them in for titles, crafting materials, and class specific equipment.
I see that everybody is worried about a 1:1 ratio conversation, and the amount of time put in to gathering GM.
But lets say we forget the reward we can exchange it for is not 1:1, would you be okay with it? I definitely am, I am pretty easy-going after all.
i've been farming seals for 6 hours. got like 2300 total from level 40 leves.
to get 2300 marks was required like 1 leve of 4 minutes.
stop pretending 1:1 conversion from guild marks to seals, it's out of the world. 10:1 conversion seems fair and would be appreciated.
Let us trade them for Company Seals or Gill.
Discard Guild marks. Convert 1 GM to 2 gils.
use them to purchase class specific af gear. ^^
btw when will beastman coins be useful? -_- $#@
Company Seals would be preferable but I'd also accept Gil :p
Maybe never, maybe by v2.0 or even after. The last I heard from the developers it was still being debated whether the coins should have a purpose or just be removed altogether.
At the moment, I'd prefer if we could turn them into a beastman NPC (or a regular NPC that studies beastman) for pieces of a beastman costume/armor (or items that could be used to turn into a beastman costume). Make the final piece a high level NM drop, add a costume/armor set to the items achievement and it becomes a little quirky thing to do if you have the time and/or coins.
I wouldn't want gil to be honest. If they are given to me by a specific gear I'd also like to do something for this specific class with it.
So I'd also prefer to buy special class gear to enhance the class individualisation (or maybe special weapons or special materia only for the special class' gear etc. though I mostly prefer equipment).
>.> Most of the stuff... in the original FFXIV was junk anyways.... They're remaking this to be the next FFXI with better graphics if you look at the big picture. Once they redo the maps new content worth doing will roll in... as for the guild mark system please trash it :P
Seals and Gil would be welcome, however I would prefer seals over Gil. But I'm not against giving players the option.
I'd agree with most of what you said aside from FFXI with better graphics. There are still things that set them apart, I really wish people would let XIV be XIV.
Most of the systems at launch were awful, yes. However that's only because they were unfinished. I've thought a lot about this and I've realized that all of the original systems had the potential to be amazing but were left unfinished and had to be implemented hastily, cutting out most of that potential.
Guild Marks should be used to purchase temp items:
things like Acc+ ATT+ DEF+ items that have short duration like 30-120 seconds.
Items that add temp effects to weapons like thunder/fire/water dmg
Seals please.
Special materia, useful potions/ethers, stat buffs, extra storage?
Would you be happy with >
1000 GM (/100) = 10 seals ?
1000 GM (*3) = 3000 gil ?
Not sure what I would want in replacement for my 130.000Thm, and 5000+ other class marks. But GC seals would be nice:) My crafting classes is still pretty low around lvl 10-20 so I would spend a lot of GC seals on Engineering manuals.
Why not make ra/ex gear for your job class to help crafting, similar to ffxi (gear that gave +1 to skill, not stats; lvl 20 = lvl 21 with the GM body). I even like the idea of crystals or dyes being sold for GM that would 'sign' an item.
I always thought it was very cook my linkshell friends were running around with gear I made, with my name on it.
I really like the idea of turning in marks for exp. My level 42 alch for instance: trade 1000 marks for 100 exp. Sure would help during those tougher stages.
Seals would be good. As it stand now seals take forever to accumulate. Slowly getting them via gc leves for my last promotion. And really a 1 > 1 conversion I could never see them doing as most of us have at least 100k+ guild marks. I know I have over 200k easy and I have only gotten thm and pug reimbursed, nor did I really do alot of leves to get them in the first place so alot of ppl have alot more im sure. A 5 > 1 or 10 > 1 conversion would be ok for company seals and even that would give alot of players more seals than they knew what to do with so they prob would have conversion higher than that.
They could cap the amount of seals u could get and give the rest in gil or something, that would be ok with me too ^^
Stuff you get for GM should not be exclusive ... it would leave new players at a disadvantage as they can never get those items.
GM to seals/gil conversion is fine. On average you get about 2000 GM for a leve, and 100 Seals for a company leve.
So I think a 1000GM > 50 Seals is fair (/20)
But thats the joy of playing right now. Those of us who have been around all this time and up til v2 will be able to ride around town with things that wont be obtainable by new players. So they start it a bit early, no big. Its a nice little reward for those of us who have been loyal thru the not so good and the bad. The primal weapons are exclusive and they will disappear leaving new players at a disadvantage too. Its the way of the game currently.
A system that significantly and exclusively rewards only the "veteran" players further discourages newcomers from joining, seeing as they are at a further disadvantage. If it is for something "special", there has to be an alternative way to get it also. Seals and gil are just a way of reimbursing the time you spent getting marks, nothing really lost.
To answer your questions in regards to guild marks refunding:
For things that could only be exchanged for a specific class
It will be possible to get a refund for those marks from the guild of the corresponding class
For things that could be exchanged by multiple classes
It will be possible to exchange for marks of the guild you spoke to (for example, if you were to get Muscle Memory II from the gladiator guild, when you go to have them refunded at the pugilist guild, they will be exchanged for pugilist guild marks)
While we are currently looking into ways in which guild tokens can be utilized in the future, we are planning to make it a shared system instead of separating it by classes.
HOw about class specific gear that actually looks different from any of the gear thats in the game now? I realize that may take a bit longer to do, but for all the time spent having nothing to spend these guild marks on, it would be a cool reward. Maybe gear sets like the type that were used as rewards for assaults in FFXI?
I would like to see the exp scrolls be bought with GM instead of GC seals and shards for signing items. Gear would be nice too but make it cost a lot of seals. You guys might even consider adding in a HQ scroll which increases odds of making a HQ or other such scrolls.
The problem you have with Gear is that while you might have 200k n can go buy all the gear, someone else might have only 20k and be fk'd over, which is a little unfair.
EXP Scrolls seem like a good way, but seriously it is not hard to level lol. But something that you can buy lots of and use, would be nice I think.
Or if you want to cop out and do the easy route there is always 1Mark = 1Gil because it would then be just like you got Gil from the leve rather than Marks.
I wouldn't call that an easy route. The last thing they're looking to do, from my impressions, is inject more gil into the economy.
I would say 1 Grand Company Seal per 50-70 marks (roughly) would be appropriate and wouldn't influence the economy too much if they don't have an alternative to a currency swap.
I find myself wondering if they are even trying to save the vast amount of squandered potential that lies in guilds. I like that an attempt is being made to save the guild marks, but meshing them together into one system? Really? Does nobody have any love left for the guilds? So much can be done to give players a reason to frequent their guild, but all I see are lackluster attempts to preserve what little presence that remains.
i originally didnt want seals cause my cap ws 10k and i had 8k. now id like to change my vote to seals. my cap is 25k and i only have 2500.
BlaiseLallaise
the guilds have allot of potential. my first choice would have been to leave guilds in game and have them sell gear, items, throwing weapons, food, ect. The GC already do this so i dont know if they decided not to because of the redundancy.Quote:

I think in the interest of balance, albeit bland seeming, the guild marks should probably be converted into gil. The exchange rate probably closer to something like 5 gil per mark (or 10) (or in line with whatever the going rate is for leves).
UNLESS:
It will be possible for new players to obtain guild marks.
IMO, they should have done it before companies were even introduced. The problem here is that the GCs don't offer anything, aside from weapons, that is specifically designed to benefit a single class. Guilds can accomplish this, thus reducing the redundancy of it. In fact, I would even argue that guilds should do this.
I have a burning desire to have a reason to visit my guild every day (or each leve reset), and have some guild-specific goals I can work towards, be it purchasable items, or random daily guild tasks, which could range from basic leves to dungeons to something akin to faction leves. The possibilities are only as limited as what the game has to offer.
They could be used to purchase teleport rings and earrings that could tele to each nation. Purchase one in Grid to tele to Gridania etc.. I also like use to get seals idea. Could have countless manuals to ease the pain of crafting for myself. If exchanged for gil that could help but may create more problems.
Or make them part of a new merit system to buy permanent stat increases to further buff and set apart the ppl who played enough to even achieve guildmarks. Would go nicely with the elder lore of our characters being "special" before and during 7th Umbral era one time only storyline.
Would be a nice addition and reward for the early adopters.
Between all my classes i have almost 2 million guild marks. I obviously cant get seals unless the conversion rate is horrible, i doubt SE wants to hand over 2 mill in an already flooded economy and im probably not the only one with 1 mill+ marks. So no matter how you spin it im probably going to get screwed over for these marks. Oh well! lol I'll take whatever i get for them, its not like my only reason for doing leves was marks.
With that being said I cast my vote for gil in exchange, preferably 1 for 1.
