Does FFXIV *Really* Want A New Non-Viera Race?

Lore behind each race that doesn't really get explored that much in the story unless you are doing it strictly for RP purposes, which, despite what Balmung may tell you, not a ton of people do. In game lore is a pretty weak excuse to use for making a new race when most people looking at a new race want to see good visual appeal, voice grunting, and animations. More options on current races isn't a bad thing. Heck, I would have stuck with being a Roe after trying it, but I just didn't like the redness surrounding their eyes and since there's no options to play as a Roe without it, I went back to Hyur.

I'd like to play a moogle race or a kobold. I know its completely ridiculous and i'll never get it.. best I can hope for is a costume belt.

Other then that maybe hybrid of races (half/half) or Garliean.. cause even if SE forgot them I still really love the imperials. (I miss the Black Wolf)

I'm like 99% certain that non-pure Garleans just end up as regular Hyur midlanders.

And pure Garleans are incapable of using magic of any kind.

I dunno, I don't really want Viera just because I'd rather see SE come up with something a bit more original.

Hell, has anyone proposed a human-like bird race, or maybe a half-plant race? I want to see that.

Meh, I still rather use a fantasia on a new race instead of new eye shapes and noses.

To be perfectly honest, it would be great if they could and would just add both, new features and a new race, but if I had to pick one, I rather a new race.

Plant people already exist in FF cannon as Lilties of the Crystal Chronicles series. Depending on which game you're looking at, they are either humans with leafy hair, or these Lalafell/Tarutaru-like people with leafy hair.

Kinda meh about Viera, did originally really want the race but Au'ra did a great job filling that gap for me. At this point id actually be open to a pure beastly race rather than another eared one, heck make one of the beast tribes a playable race or use other ones like Ronso or even Varg... >.<

Chances of SE making a playable Beastmen are extremely low... unless they make Beastman glamour (and not like the Beastmen suits you get from Vanu and Gnath, but actual Beastman glamour). It's the only way to get by the whole "clothing will not be redesigned for funky feet, abnormal arms and freaky faces" argument.

I'd just like to point that a year ago I saw these forums with a lot of people saying stuff like "Idc about the AuRa and I'll never play one", but in reality we know how things went in practice and now se see scales everywhere.

The whole "idc about new races/Viera" thing is no different, since as a matter of fact people will try it out anyways if a new race is released and just a salty minority will complain in case the models end up clashing with personal aesthetic & beauty standards of each person.

Sadly the community here likes to be "disappointed" and unsatisfied with things before it's even released, like it was with the AuRa, and the Ninja before the new race and the trials before the ninja, and the summoner before the trial, and so on. It's impossible to please everyone but I'm all up for new options either it being a new race or more customization for already released ones.

i don't think pure beastly race will ever happend:
1) they areo often niche race, barely played and they don't want to add a race that will recquire more work for a niche.
2) like said, it will recquire more work for adapt armor for this race. they have limited man power asking them to loose time for adapt every armor out soo far for beastly race.... is an insane workload.

The only issue I have with playable Beastmen is to imagine EB stuff, honestly, and also the fact that all existing gear would look really weird. They would have to invest a lot of time and money to make sure every single piece of old and new gear wouldn't look off on a Beastmen race, and in order to do so they would sadly need to stick to the "human" body type and face shaping.

The only "beasty" race I can think of that might work under those circunstances are the Wolf race from the concept arts, the Bangaa and maybe the Ronso. Or something Lalafell-alike.

That's why I suggested Beastman glamour. Gear will not need to be remade because you're taking the form of a Beastman (take Pomanders of Lust/Rage for example. This is what I was implying. It'll take up five slots like the ghost costume). The most SE would need to do is work on animations.

This is the only way I can see Beastmen being playable in this game.

Yep, only reason I went back to Au Ra is because I prefer the female glamours (I'm sorry, but the female thavnairian gear really appeals to me, I have 9 sets of the stuff - don't ask why, I question myself over this decision - one each in pure white, jet black, metallic silver, metallic gold, metallic red, metallic green, metallic sky blue, metallic blue, & metallic purple), and a female Roe never appealed to me. Now, the male Roe's on the other hand. Out of all the race/gender combos I've been (m-roe, f-miqo, m-miqo, m-lala, f-aura), the male Roe (Sea Wolf of course), is my favourite. It's just that damn female thav gear that drew me back to the female au ra.

As far as the viera race though, I'm kinda meh about it. I'll look into it and see how other players look with it. But I do like I have a fairly unique (if not completely unique) look given that I went with a darker skin tone for my Au Ra. Even though the female Au Ra is far more popular than the male Roegadyn on my server, I've found I've run into a lot less copycats of me as a fem-ra than I did as a man-roe. Viera would have to have a way for me to make myself look quite unique with it if I was to consider dropping my fem-ra or man-roe.

We have Au Ra as well with the succubus horns and that's for both races but SE has Au Ra anyway. :/

Tho yes you can change few colors, hairstyle and still think you do a better job than FF14 team if you like to

I would rather see more in-depth customization for current races than new ones.

Also more Jobs, but that's sort of tangential.

Looks like a win for mixed races. (Lalafell sized Miqo'te could be adorable.)
But I think my vote would go towards another clan for each of the existing races (provided they used the chance to provide some real diversity and not just the exact same thing with a slight shift of color palette).

Personaly, I want two clans of Viera, the Ivalice one that they showed before as one clan and the other clan can be the FFXIV version of Viera (the short one that they showed last year aswell.) This way those that want the fierce ivalice Viera get theirs and the playerbase that cant get enough cute race, will get theirs.

I first saw a Viera in Final Fantasy 12's demo. My immediate response was: "Yeugh, does that lady have rabbit ears? That's awkward." Then I was like, "She's really pretty..." Followed by, "Ew, bunny ears. Awkward..." Then, "She's cute, I wonder if she nibbles like rabbits do." And... "She's freaking awkward with those ears."

This goes on for quite a while. If we do get Viera as a race, it'll probably look less awkward in FFXIV's universe. My belief, and I hope SE feels the same way, is that humanoid with animal traits just isn't enough. Like the Miqo'te and their cattiness, Viera should have rabbit-like mannerisms. Maybe they could be slightly more beastlike, and they actually have a different animation when they sprint, like super long strides, or epic bunny hops.

Character customisation (that a word?), is really bland and lacking hard, most beards/stach are bad looking, can't edit the face, and most of the people go for the beauty one, so you have everyone with the same faces, lips, eyes, boob size (female) and only thing to different yourself from others are the eyes color and hair style/glamour.

I really wish they would expand on the character option more than cater to silly races when we're fine with it (until 4.0 i suppose), you can't be unique if you look like everyone else, and if they ever revamp/expand on the character customisation, should give everyone a free fantasia to try it out.

Just follow this formula:

Make the males whatever you want

Make the females an archetype of sexy of either western or eastern standards

And now you can make anything you want, you can make rock people, robots, aliens, liquid, gas, bears, insects, plants, shit the sky is the limit. Just make sure the females have boobs no matter what, and they have physics. Oh and stay away from kids, unless they can be old as hell but just look like kids.

as far as i know, male char can't get belly, man's boobs and stuff, they are made to be as sexy'n cute as ladys
