This I agree with.

Here's a thought, don't get this item then. Do the content that is designed for you! It's not like the relic weapon is better than many other options, and frankly if you can't put in enough time to do a few dungeons and get your tomes. The game probably isn't for you.
I disagree. It's just an illusion of choice, you can do as much Diadem as you want but people who want their weapons will be spamming a select few daily roulettes and the ARF dungeon. Yes, a lot of things give you esos but the majority of them are pretty irrelevant unless you want to get your weapon in 4.0.
Also, a lot of "DoW activities" is still not as varied as doing other optional things like making gil and spiritbonding. Not everyone had to progress through that route, but at least it added variety to the grind.
Edit:
Like I mentioned earlier, to some jobs such as SCH and Noct.Ast, the accuracy stat IS the best possible option. So unless they add an accuracy option to tome weapons, certain roles will be forced to go through this route. They can still make a grind without dragging it quite as far, or at least make it more interesting for everyone.
due to the RNG nature of the atma when it was launched it took me 6 MONTHS of fate grinding, playing for about 5-9 hours EVERY DAY before I got all of the atmas required.
a month of doing my roulette's? My beast tribe dailies now have incentives? Id rather grind three of these new relics than go through that atma grind again.
All what we need for next relic step is farming beastmen seals from Hamlet defences again.
I love how people likes to confuse "casual" with "time investment".
If relic is supposed to be a second tier arm, that gives you good stats but isn`t the BiS, there is no reason for it to be behind such an horrendous timesink. Besides, it just an slap for anyone wanting to work on it, is basically the game devs saying "we know you are not raid material, here, have a weapon that only requires one thing from you, time".
Its terrible. Having so many oportunities to make relic both good and interesting as a quest, they just plan it to be a dumbed down grind, is getting tiring, repeating 2000 times a dungeon is not fun, entertaining, challenging, good, anything, is just developers being absolutely lazy, every step this quest goes on becomes worse and worse... This is unacceptable.
its either going to be a grind, or locked behind savage. And its not even that time consuming, I have a 240, 3rd of the way to 2nd 240, another 230, and halfway to a 4th 210, just doing weeklies and dailies. Original Atma, light farming, the zodiak step, were all much worse than any of these.
Well hopefully people can get their Palace of the Dead weapon and stop complaining.... You want something thats not a dumbed down grind? Go do that then..... geez. The amount of bellyaching over the one quest that actually takes a month or two to complete is kinda unreal. People act like playing the game for a couple months a year is actually going to damage them psychologically or something lol. Most of the people complaining probably already have a lvl 230 weapon and will be given lvl 240 upgrades in patch 3.4
I'm assuming all the people that are upset about relic are the people that burnt through all the other easy stuff already and have nothing better to do. So either do the relic, raid, or go play another game until they patch in more easy content that you can complete in 1 week.
Also remember. Everything except Weeping City that was challenging has been nerfed due to player feedback, so that's why the game is like this now.
If you don't like doing Relic, stop doing it. People cleared M4S in 3.2, nothing in this game requires you to have a relic to clear content. If you want engaging fights for a weapon, do the new Ex Primal and the end game raid.
Stop complaining that the game has varied content for different people when the stuff you want is already in the game in a different form. Interesting fights, engaging quests = New Trial. Even more interesting fights but the quest isn't as engaging for some people unfortunatly = Alexander.
How is it mindless? It's mindless if you grind it 24/7 maybe. I never grinded my weapon, I played the game normally and in 2 months time I had my 210 weapon. 210 step is literally play the game the way you want to and you will be rewarded with a 210 weapon in the end. I did my roulettes whenever I felt like doing roulettes, I did my beast tribes whenever I felt like doing beast tribes, I did hunts when I wanted to do hunts, I did treasure maps when I wanted to do treasure maps and I did PvP when I wanted to do PvP. I never touched Godias and suddenly from playing the type of content I wanted to, when I wanted to, I got a cool 210 weapon.
Edit: Think of it like this. Do you complain about PvP saying "I want an ADS mount but I don't want to do boring PvP, change how to get ADS mount so I can also do interesting and engaging fights to get ADS mount"? Do you go up to crafters and complain, "I want the minions you get from boring crafting, change how to get the minions so I can get them from doing interesting and engaging fights as well"? You have your interesting and engaging fights, they give better rewards than this Relic quest, go do your interesting and engaging fights if that's what you want to do for a weapon.
I dont hate the relic BTW I'm working on my second one now. Im saying since MOST people won't do it now because they can't be bothered are the ones being catered to? Why? People who actually want to have some mid core tier things (like the original HM primals, chimera, hydra before item lvl bloat) get screwed because its "too hard". Yoshi's solution is to make it a boring rehashed old content grind. I DO NOT mind the grind BUT MAKE IT INTERESTING!! Right now it is mindless it offers nothing of interest except old things we've been doing hundreds of times before the the quest line was even introduced.
Everything you are saying and agreeing with is the reason we have such a silly dumbed down system now. The original relic was a great quest line, then everything changed the whole game for that matter changed. But I'm done talking to you because clearly you don't understand.
To your edit:
I don't complain about anything I enjoy all aspects of this game but its annoying to see Yoshi state the relic is the way it is because people couldn't clear titan hm but then even with the grinds PEOPLE STILL DONT DO IT. So please dont say I am that type of person because I do everything in this game before all nerfs and buffs even crafting, gathering and pvp. Sometimes I get achievements while its relevant and sometimes I don't but I don't whine like a lot of players do about not having things handed to them.
Oh... sorry to hear that man. I got all 12 ATMA in a month, but RNG is RNG and I wish they went about it differently and I hated the fact your weapon didn't EVEN get stronger and on top of it you lost the glow to it. That's wrong...
Let's agree to disagree... I much prefer the old Zodiac line (pre-nerf) compared to the Anima line currently. At least I did a load of other things instead of redoing AFC over until my mind goes numb. It wasn't engaging or fun like Zodiac was even if it was annoying at times.
It was nerfed. They added Moogle Beast Tribe so another beast tribe to give you tokens that can be used for any piece.
Even better unlike Vanu and G'nath. Moogles give you 3 tokens at rank 7 so you can get an item of every 6 days from them and 9 from the other two, and 12-13 from a 4th beast tribe (each one except ixal gives one of the 4 items). (Kobald = Ore, Sylph = Seed, Amalj'aa = Bone, Sahagin = Shell)
Dragonskin maps can drop ore.
Allied seals for hunts can be used for items (and hunts drop eso and poetics!)
Esoterics and Poetics can be used for items
Alexander Gordias can be farmed 10 clears = 1 item each floor gives tokens for a specific item (AND you get Eso to boot!)
The relic is meant to be a very long grind.
I certainly put time into the game, and for a brief moment when it was new, I actively worked on the 210 step. Despite the fact that the stats weren't favorable, and I didn't even like the look of it. I finally got all the unidentifiables, and for lack of gil/leveled crafters (I started a new FC, so that's were the gil went), I'm effectively dead in the water on the 210 step. Got the oils. No clue what the 240 step entails, and at this point, what little interest I had is RAPIDLY fading.
I think I can say at this point I gave it the "fair chance" I said I would, and remain uninspired, unmotivated, and rather disappointed. Definitely no 4.0 relic for me.
I'm inclined to disagree myself here. For one, because thus far, I always managed to finish the most recent relic step a good month in advance to the next patch, let alone 4.0 and I usually only run two daily roulettes a day, then do other things. Right now, I'm at 120/240 with 8 umbrites in the bag, 600 esos at the ready and the next big patch is probably a good two months away. And I'm even skipping some roulettes and side activities because I'm close to exams. If you feel the need to kill your brain cells one by one by spamming solely aetherochemical... well...have fun? It's not necessary.
For another, I find progressing while doing things you already do because you enjoy doing them a "lot" better than going out of my way for progress. "Gaining gil" and "Spiritbonding" are first and foremost crafter, not DoW friendly options. Go figure how many DoW only players own a private mansion. Do the same for crafters afterwards. You'll notice a trend. Also, there's not a whole lot of option there, you need materia, so you either spiritbond yourself or get gil to buy the stuff other people have spiritbonded.
So yeah...I still vastly prefer these steps over just about anything the previous relic had. Books were nice I suppose, if you ignore the required FATEs.
Coming from someone that has not really started the relic yet (except to pick up the crystal quest), it's not that I don't have the time, but I have decided that if I were to grind this out then all my game time would be spent on it. I have lots of other things I want to do while I'm logged on, and since I can get an equivalent weapon doing those other things I don't really consider doing the relic at this time.
I have no problem with the grind, or any complaints with it (except my drop rates really suck still), so I'm not asking for a nerf to it. I say grats to those that DO get it, as I totally understand the grind needed to obtain it. It's just not for me at the moment (maybe some day).
I had mine done months ago, and almost half way done on another weapon (10,10,8, 9). It's really not that bad OP.
If they do nerf it though,l I would appreciate them to cut the amount of mats needed in half, rather than the cost. Granted, I think it would be the same outcome in the end, but still.
(there are also other ways to get the items than tomes BTW)
If you don't have the time, then the anima weapon is just not for you and you don't really need it. All you need to do is run a couple roulettes most days and you'll eventually get it. No one is forcing you to be the first person to get it done.
To the person mentioning gil, this game literally craps gil at you. Between gil rewards for roulettes, challenges, and most importantly, your TIER 5 MATERIA YOU PROBABLY DON'T NEED IF YOU DON'T RAID, you can have plenty of gil.
Spent all your gil on a house? Grats, that's your thing to show off, you don't need a relic.
Now I want a relic house.
And house someone's soul
Materia could enhance NPCs in house. Like mender could repair over 100%.
I wouldn't mind it being so long if it weren't for the fact I'm having trouble getting the eikonic weapon. That's a 7 week grind as it is, yet I can't seem to get a group to do A7 so I can start doing A8 for the gear. Every time I've entered the dungeon queue for it, it's always well over an hour with no pop.
Guess I'll at least try Sephirot Extreme to get my 220 weapon. But, I'm starting to remember why I take frequent breaks from this game. All it has is a grind and nothing else.
I really wish Deep Dungeon weapons were on par with the relic. That's one type of content I wouldn't mind having a long grind in because it's an interesting system. But so long as the reward is just aesthetic or only good enough for alt jobs, the reward isn't as interesting as it could be.
But the real problem with the anima grind is that it's creatively bankrupt. It's just being used as a device to populate queues. The original relic got off to a promising start with two unique trials and asked players to take on the challenge of three hard mode trials (including the wall of Titan). People complained and it's been changed into a long grind with absolutely no challenge ever since.
I think that's kinda of the problem with making gear really easy to get, people got entire sets of gear from alex normal in 5 weeks and no1 bothers to do it anymore.
I would set up a party finder and put that you have bonus in the description. People that are trying to get the anima weapon will probably help you, so that they can get the eso bonus.
You're forgetting that relics are optional, it's not even necessary to do them for progression or MSQ. Hence, if you decide to do it, it's a decision you made, and not one the game forced on you.
That being said, the first time doing anima relics can be very daunting, and it certainly was for me. Just need a little patience on that step :) And start farming umbrites/sands/aether oils early!
And here I thought the freaking 7 week lockout lore weapon was a grind. Well I feel it still IS, but I got til tues on reset to get my last gear and 230!!!!!! My monk will punch GODS. I'll stop complaining about that lock out since this relic weapon sounds much worst to get. :O
they should make it harder
Well, i have my 240 relic now since a month and I will carry it for another 2-3 months, before I upgrade it again within a few weeks in 3.4 I guess.
The longest relic steps so far (200->210 and 230->240) were around max. 40-60h 'work' in a 3-6 month period.
That IS NOT MUCH!
Trial, 50 and Expert each day yield quite a few. I try not to miss those. Hunts, S ranks especially can be very good and are all that I do mostly. I'm farming for my second relic atm and am taking it slow for the umbrites and sands. It'll get done when it gets done.
yeah, that's the thing, and kinda the paradox of the casual player's need to get the relic. doing it at a pace means you can do the stuff you want to do and get the relic, but it will be worth less as a functional weapon and will be overtaken by a tomestone weapon sooner, grinding incessantly for it gets the weapon done sooner, but well..."roll for sanity loss" :D
