Humanoid Avian Race?

Someone mentioned it earlier but Garuda herself would make an interesting template for a feathered race. You could have multiple wings that are only visible when /unfurled and you're in flight.

That is actually pretty cool, and even humanoid they would have "unique" shapes of body and faces, but not mess with the "models" too much.

Draenei are demon like creature, like the worgen that are werewolf a bit the two type of creature people want to play. and outside the feet the draenei are fairly humanlike. the worgen of wow had even the human shape...
people asking for beast-like race are simply ignoring people point and simply say we want it. sadly i doubt you have that much people that will want to play this sort of race. then use money, time and energy for a race that will be barely played is.... well i let it to you imagination.

i will say what i have said before, it will never happend that like this. too much work will be needed for adapt the tons of equipement already existing, with each expansion more and more gears will be added and the work for adapt all this will simply too important for the little impact it will have on the game.

Love this idea, I'm always in for new races. There can never be enough diversity. Just remember the race would have to be PRETTY human like, or as other players said, they'd have to remodel way too much.

I have always loved wings! I got into Aion for a while, but I didn't like the flight limit players had. If SE brought an avian like race to ff14, I would be the happiest mmo player to ever have played an mmo and my life would truly forsake all reality. lel

Replace the claws with hands, the unique looking feet with regular human feet and change the feather hair to normal hair and you have yourself a race!

Defeating the purpose of a playable monster race when you are suggesting just another human race with relatively minor alterations. May as well not bother.

Could always have it (eventually) explained that the new Avian race is actually a humanoid (because it will be if added no doubt) version of the Iksalion, in comparison to the Beast Tribe Ixali. The amount of time thats passed since then has seen them forget their true origins, just like the Ixali have.

Harpies have their origins in Greek and Roman mythology and were depicted as bird/woman hybrids (bird bodies and women's heads/faces; depending on the source, they were sometimes said to be filthy and gross, sometimes said to be beautiful) that tormented people (some of them deserved it, but some of them didn't; Greek Gods were depicted as notoriously petty) and brought evildoers to the Furies for punishment. It's simply what SE will do. Take Miqo'te and Au Ra for example. If SE aren't going to make gear work around with tails and horns (they just clip), then anything that isn't human in any way will either clip, or be changed to be more human.

I'm all for a new race in 5.0 but... not an avian one (aren't the Vanu this?). The problems begin with the word 'go'. For starters, players are going to want wings no matter how practical (probably why the Vanu are being ignored). Secondly, they are going to want those wings to work. This creates an imbalance between the races, something Square has been bending over backwards to prevent since 1.# given how there's barely a 1-2 stat point difference between what races we have. Now me, I think I'd rather a more bestial race but then they'd have to reconcile that the female of it wouldn't be cute and... they seem to have problems with that.

Honestly...I wish SE would retcon Miq'ote into an race that is comprised of animal species.

This way we COULD get birds, bunnies, dogs, etc. And it not be a "new" race that looks & plays like a rehash/copy & paste of another race.

Miqo'te are based off of Mithra, so we can give them a pass there.

Au Ra, on the other hand, had a much better concept art that didn't go through for various reasons. Like you said, I highly suspect that if we do get another beast-like race it'll just be a Hyur/Miqo'te lookalike with different and/or additional "accessories" attached to them.

On a side note, I suspect the "challenge" that it would have posed for the FFXIV team is why Roegadyn don't resemble the race they were based off of body type wise.

I think SE would be more willing to add races that didn't fit the Miq'ote mold if

1) Roe's were the popular race of choice
2) Player's didn't mind clipping

Maybe if SE stopped putting so many collars on chest plates or redesigned hair to go around collars if they insist on putting so many collars everywhere or at least add an option to hide collars.

Regardless, things will always clip but if your clever you can get around that.

And again, why 'is' that bad? Who cares about balance when it comes to something cool? Why would giving them the ability to fly be a bad thing? I wouldn't care, as long as they had to do everything else other players have to do to be able to fly and cannot fly in no fly zones who cares?

You can give the females and males a longer face. For example the harpy look would do well for them, they could still "look cute" but are still monsters.

Gear that was designed specifically for Miqo'te in 1.0 is no longer present in ARR/HW. Something something limitations or whatever.

I was hoping Au ra would be more fierce, but they're not, so I went back to my moonkitty with fangs, and just glamour claws of the beast the entire time. ;-; I want bad-ass females to play as! Harpy would be awesome imo

You are aware that a Cait Sith is actually a folktale creature that steals souls in the Scottish Highlands, and the one here is a guardian trying to keep evil at bay right? About the japan thing, you say it like America hasn't done the same. We have tv shows where The Devil actually lounges around earth solving crimes for people, Werewolves and Demons doing the same, Teenaged girls with Vampire friends protecting their towns and a few times the world. If you don't like he idea fine, but that's not gonna prove anything -_-

I compared it with its real life counterpart. You compared it with unrelated games and anime. They're both apples/oranges. I mean, if you really want to get into how they've been depicted in the FF series, none of them seem particularly cute (or heroic) to me.

And er. We have a halfbreed dragon race? That's kind of news to me. I hope you aren't referring to Au Ra.

Japan specifically takes everything and makes it super cute. America doesn't tend so much toward cute, though I guess there's some. I honestly don't care if we get a bird race or not. Mostly, I think a lot of what's being talked about in the thread is a lot of wishful thinking since it would make more work for the devs as far as rigging gear and whatnot. We won't see wings or taloned feet or any of that stuff. A bird race would end up having little feathery tufts for ears and a texture on the skin or something. Viera would end up being an Elezen model with cute bunny ears (maybe at least the females would be tall, lol). No matter what race we get next or how cool the concept art is, when it's implemented it will end up being basically a hyur with a few animal parts tacked on.
