Lol... alright if you say so. I just happen to care about people. I prefer to see people happy and healthy than depressed/tired/sick. If you think that's strange... .. well I can only laugh at that.
I don't need to know someone personally/be friends/be related to someone to feel badly for them when they are ill (or something) because I know how it feels, and it SUCKS. I don't need to know someone to show compassion for them.
Man I hate that mentality... "Why care for someone you don't even know?" Hmm, I dunno.. Maybe because they're a human being too.
Everyone deserves compassion.
It has nothing to do with caring about people you don't know. It has to do with posting about wanting your game dev to look "happy and healthy" like he's some pet you need to find the right diet for. A comment like that is just WEIRD, along with a dozen others in this thread. It's like some kind of odd, stalker-ey, cult-ey, fanboyism. You have no reason at all to think there's anything wrong with his health or happiness. So he might not be getting enough sleep. Welcome to 98% of the world's population, Mr. Yoshida.
And even if there was something to maybe worry about, a lot of these posts take it so far over the top it's insane. People posting they're actually worried he might DIE? Really? REALLY? Talking about steps his supervisors should take? And you know they haven't taken them how?
Sorry if this comes off as cold, but when you have the OP saying absolutely insane stuff like "these guys are literally putting their lives on the line" then I think that's worthy of a reality-check.
Again, whatever you say. If you want to make it out to be weird and creepy when it wasn't, go right ahead. You're only making me laugh harder. XD
I don't get how some people can turn innocent compassion into something twisted.
I'm out 'cause this thread has just devolved too far for my sanity to stay intact. lol
This he had to say during the massively interview:
Quote:
Last but not least, has the development team had trouble keeping up with the pace of patches, since we've been getting a large patch every two or three months over the past year?
Yeah, it's been really difficult. It's probably been most difficult on me because when I start going, I never use breaks, just keep going. We've gotten a lot of worried comments from players saying, "You're going to burn out," but actually, we're doing pretty well. Because it had a lot of content in it, the last patch was tough for a lot of the planners, but a lot of them also came to us and said that they wanted to come in on Saturdays and Sundays because they want to release as much content to the players as possible. We want to get that out because we know the players are looking forward to it, so we didn't really mind coming in on weekends to get things done.
The biggest thing to keep in mind was that it wasn't me telling the team to do extra work; it was the team coming to me and asking for extra work, to make things better for the players, and that made a big impact on me. Yes, because of that extra work, there were people who got a little burned out, but we got through the patch, and a lot of those people are on little short vacations resting up for the next patch.
The schedule that we've laid out is what we're working to meet, and we've had it laid out for a long time, far in advance. That schedule has been made to meet the abilities of our development team, so it's not like we're doing something that's beyond that schedule. Meeting it has not been as difficult as a lot of people have thought, so we're not getting burned out -- this is pretty much what we had planned. So far we've been able to meet this schedule with a lot of success. So don't worry too much about us -- we're making it.
But myself, I'm really tired because I'm always working. (laughs)
I worry about humanity because just looking at this forum day to day makes me want to vomit at the douche baggery. The devs are doing an AMAZING job and I really hope they look out for their health. I also hope they know the large amount of horrid people posting on the forums here don't represent how most of us feel.
Its like hey, lets take a nice and thoughtful post and then crap all over it the best we can instead of just letting it be a nice thought someone had.
The Dude is doing an office job, you need to get over it. It is very nice of you to be concerned but he will be just fine. It's crazy how people nowdays cry about been over worked while sitting at a desk all day. Look at the farmers who wake up at 4 AM and work their ass off all day (physical work) and go home only when dark. Now these guys have a right to complain about exhaustion and yet they don't.
Actually, when you're working 14+ hours days, you are putting your life on the line, no matter the profession -- Your body wasn't designed to be under constant stress like that. This is why even with good diets, people who work that much usually fall first. It's why people die of exhaustion.
According to whom?
Look I'm not saying working 14 hours a day is the healthiest thing in the world, but there are millions of people all over the world who do it on a daily basis and are doing just fine. And I think a vast majority of people in the world can say they've been overworked like that at some point in their lives. I certainly have. And I'm sure some people have died from the stress of being overworked, but that doesn't mean that everyone who is overworked is putting their life on the line. That's like saying "hey, people have gotten in car accidents, so I'm putting my life on the line when I drive home from work!"
Soldiers put their lives on the line.
Firefighters put their lives on the line.
Cops put their lives on the line.
Miners put their lives on the line.
Yoshida sitting in an office with an intense work schedule, is not putting his life on the line. That's ridiculous.
I'm just about to finish a very long day.
And now, i'm going to the pub. So there.
2 years i need a lot of money to pay some debts and was working from 8 AM to 10PM(some days to 12PM) monday to friday and weekends i would do 9AM to 6PM. I did that for almost a year. My gf's roomate has been doing 7AM to 9PM monday to friday for the past 4-5 months and she's not the strongest looking girl, she looks damn fragile if you ask me and yet she goes clubbing 3 times a week after work. So yeah.... your body can handle a lot more then you think. Our bodies was not designed to sit a desk all day, before civilization we were hunters and we worked our bodies a hell lot more. That's what it was designed for.

Wow such a simple thoughtful post brought on so much negativity.. that's to be expected on here I guess : /
I liked the idea of a simple care package, or us all spamming their emails with super pretty eCards (or whatever those are called). Maybe if there's artists, we can make a thread and post a bunch of drawings for the devs.
(or spam their emails with them) :P
I very seriously doubt "spamming" their emails would be a good idea. It could be misconstrued as an attack on their email server or worse, and could likely even cause their network security people some unneeded grief. I'd suggest either the first or third option if you really want to do something
its not our fault the game was released 3 years too early. Its an SE issue, let them fix is as they see fit.
Since the guy you're responding to was responding to me, I figured I'd chime in. This is absolutely the truth. I didn't feel I was a slave to the system. I felt like I was working hard to save up money. I didn't complain even once, and the last day of one of my 30 day stretches was Christmas Eve, and I showed up with a Santa hat and a smile to work. By the end of my shift my hair was pretty screwed up from the hat, and I was sweating pretty hard, but it was all okay when we closed the store and sat in the stockroom eating stuff that we all brought for the Xmas party. I actually had fun, imagine that.
If you're working a job you absolutely cannot stand, then I agree, those long stretches can be a pain. I've been irritated after 6 days or so at certain jobs, but it largely depends on where you work and how you decide to approach the situation. If your coworkers are complete asshats and drama starters, then yes, obviously you're going to hate even working one full day. However, that's a rarity from my experience. I'm unemployed at the moment after I had surgery earlier this year and I miss working. Nothing around here is hiring, though I expect that will change next month with seasonal jobs. I have enough experience to far outclass menial cashier jobs, though if that's what I can get, I'll take it at this point.
People really need to be taught from a young age about work ethic. It needs to be instilled into people. I get so tired of listening to friends complain about their jobs when I've stated numerous times to then, "Then quit and put in a good word for me."
Absolutely.
I don't think people should be working those long hours, and I find it ridiculous. The problem is, the state system isn't helping. The more regulations, the dodgier these corporations get and the more excuses they earn to not hire those worthy of such jobs. I do think it's wrong and immoral that companies fire and hire in certain ways and charge for certain services, but the key to that is never the state system: it is through boycotts and competition, the kind of things that can't be dodged.
I've worked in various manners ever since I was a mere kid, even ran a business before (even if it was in a limited capacity). Not to mention that it's in my bloodline too as part of my family used to own most of Georgia post-slavery.
At the end of the day, unless someone is literally forcing you into doing something, it is not slavery nor evil - and since one's value is relative when compared with any commodity, it is the person's own duty to prove he's worthy for what he wants.
Edit: anyways, I'm done. I've said my peace, anything further will just be repeating myself and going further off-topic.
Greetings, everyone!
