I already explained myself, I only play to continue my connection with some old friends in game. I also explained that I'd be willing to pay for 2.0. Just because we slightly enjoy the tiny amount of content this game has doesn't mean we're ready to fork out a monthy fee for it.
Most of those friends will also be hanging up XIV as well until that day comes. We all play other games to fill the void that this game leaves. Most are not willing to take on a full mmo subscription for a mini game.
Holy crap...what are all you Haters doing playing this game?
If you hate it so much...why dont you go play another F2P game instead of wasting your breath in here?
Most of us already knew this was coming sooner or later.
Im for one will be much happier when all these FF haters will be gone.
Good riddance!
Well, at the time of writing, the stayers are winning 191 to 42, or nearly a 5 to 1 margin. Now how loud the haters are (hopefully they will all now go away), I consider this a vindication of SE's decision.
I am also slightly puzzled (like so many others) about why so many people who clearly have an intense dislike for the game are still playing it. I have read the rubbish about 'my friends play' but that is no excuse. There are loads of ways you could keep in touch with them without subjecting yourself to a nightly torture session. Please, just go. You will all be so much happier doing something else.
Oh no! C'mon OP ask your mom to start giving you an allowance! It's only $12-15 a month! I thought me and you were going rage and level like beast!
well...kbye
Waiting on paying myself. I thought my $80 purchase of the CE was a lot of money to be giving them. I would be willing to pay once this game is maybe, 20% cooler.
Will that happen by 2.0 I guess we shall see.
So people were willing to pay when the game was complete ***, but aren't when the game is far from complete ***. Makes sense...
ill cya in 2013 when they finish the game. pay for unfinish prduct come on SE seriously. like buying a pop knowing its watered down and flat b4 u purchase it.
I'm jumping ship in 11.11.11 and come back when I'm done.
A little research should have clued you in. Just saying. It was fairly widespread on various websites what condition Beta was in, and it would have only taken a day after release to prove it.
But people were still willing to pay, and now that they haven't had to for so long they think that it is ok to continue not paying. What everyone doesn't realize is that paying for an MMO is only about 50 cents to play per day and even less if they give the 1 year deals. They also don't realize is that you can't get brand new servers and content without having SE funded in order to perform these actions. SE said they have 250 people working on this game. Now where does their salary come from? A money tree?
So you propose WE pay the development costs? Get a clue, the high ups can eat the cost as far as I'm concerned. They're the ones that green lighted this mess of a game last sept. I know, I know if Wada doesn't bring home a clean 4 mil this year his wife might leave him, better send in my 13 bucks.
I don't like the idea of having to pay before we see how the game will be when they change, everything.
I more than likely will not pay or invest in "hope and change".
I barely play today, when it's free. SE shouldn't charge until players, (especially CE pre-order buyers like myself) can see for ourselves what 2.0 will be like. What if we spend money, only to be disappointed again?
BTW, where's my rites of passage SE? You want me to pay?
Send me my rites like I ordered in the CE, then we'll talk.
Whatever, Ive played and liked this game (with the exception of one month around Feb I think) since beta (CB3). So yes I will paying my monthly sub, hell I payed for 6 months of crysta before they even announced FTP, so I got 6 months already bought and paid for.
Just saying,..
I'll let you all beta test it again for more $$$. Upload the changes to Grid on Youtube, and let me watch before I pay.
{Thanks for the offer, but I'll pass.}
The only reason I am staying, is because I see potential in the game and want to see that potential come to fruition. If that means throwing a $180 donation their way (as I don't really intend to play the game until 2.0) to help them achieve that goal, so be it.
I have had faith that the developers could steer the game in the right direction after they started listening to the community and started openly communicating with us.
I for one will be staying and paying, I am currently in university so dont get a massive amount of time to play anymore but I will be staying here as I trust SE, Yoshi P and the plans they have in place.
Fair enough the game was a mess on release but since then they have improved so much and as far as i can see we have not been let down on any promise of content so far.
We cant expect to play this game for free forever and it is only £8.99 a month, hardly a mortage...
I'm debating it. I have a while to decide for sure.
On one hand, the changes they've announced look great, and the game is still playable and getting updates in its current state. I'm also probably not going to be unable to pay for the subscription fee each month. But on the other hand, I'm just not sure I want to pay for a game the producer/director sees as "50%" fixed. I don't know if I want to bother learning how to play a game and memorizing a world that will be completely different. I don't even know if I want to get a head start on leveling like some other people, because sometimes it's more fun to experience fresh from the start.
I kind of want to support them and see the new stuff unfold, but at the same time I feel I might have a better time overall just waiting for the new game when it's ready in a year.
I'm staying :) 95% of my LS is staying and umm all of my friends are staying ^_^ That's enough for me.
I see it like this:
1) I have not paid for this game yet beyond the purchase price.
2) I have received a 13 month head start on this game for free.
3) SE has continued to pay the salaries of the past and current Dev teams.
4) Massive changes have been and continue to be made to the game as promised.
5) The update to the game to make it V2.0 will be free.
6) I will be receiving exclusive content others will not receive if I stick around.
I see this game as being 3 separate games I have been able to play. Like 3 totally different incarnations...one of which I got for free. The second 2 I will have to pay for. How many games that are free (and don't mention FTP games since they are money driven through "donations") have a 250 man development team and a massive amount of resources behind them to improve them? That is a very short list. Many people have been more than happy to list the faults of SE (me being one of their biggest critics, trust me my LS has heard some heavy rants by me on SE's performance on both FFXI and FFXIV), but very few have been quick to mention the fact that they ADMITTED to failing. They could have folded up shop and just written it off as a loss but instead decided to commit themselves to correcting that mistake. For the most part they have held true to that. This is called "Pride in ones work". What they have done in essence over the last year equates to them telling the community, "We were wrong to set our sights so low. We were expected to set a standard that we fell well short of. We promised a product that we did not deliver, this product could have and should have been better. We WILL make it better. We WILL meet your expectations and exceed them.". In this day and age that is a rare sentiment that is backed up by action from any billion dollar business.
With that being said...they are not only going to improve what they can on the current design but give us a whole new design that is more in tune with what we actually expected of them. I have been having a blast with the current and past versions of this game so far (granted this was mostly due to the cool people on my server and in my LS). Overall, I gave FFXIV a 6/10 on release (I have seen a lot worse releases). I think this newer version looks good but what interests me will be how they justify the world changing so much. I want to be part of that transition phase. I am hoping it will be epic.
As long as SE continues to put forth the effort and maintains their commitment to perfecting the vision behind this game I will have no problems giving my $15 to their cause. Free is better I know that for sure but quality has always cost money and if they can deliver on that promise I will never miss that money for a second.
i lol'ed when ppl say "So we pay for the developement cost?" Well technically and truth is, yes you, me and every single one is paying for the development progress to get what we want in the future, is what has been done ever since Everquest came out, although here is a bit special, the game is playable no? is fun no? so let's leave it to those who want to play continue on paying and those who do not want to pay, wait out on 2012 or better do not ever play it again.. why is it so hard for these people to just state their point and leave the door.
I'm absolutely staying. Though I may turn my subscription on and off (if possible) because there are times when I'm too busy to play for weeks. Heck, when I got the game I thought I was gonna be charged immediately. So a year of free-ness was a nice treat.
The massive changes coming are enough to know that I'll get my money's worth!
Im staying and paying:)
My brother says hes gonna jump out. Idk I might stay.
The game still runs like crap (although slightly better) and crashes too often for me to pay, honestly, it's not in a state for p2p, still. Everytime I'm watching tv via windows media center, then launch this game, it crashes in less than 5 minutes. No other game gives me this problem. This is how I play on my PC, all day, but this game doesn't work well while watching tv. 2.0 may be great, and that's great, but 1.19 isn't p2p worthy imho. I guess I won't be able to comment soon here, so adios amigos, I guess...
whatever.
I'm staying, at least to see the changes. If they do not fix a majority of the bugs at very least (Ones that have been around alot longer than they should have been) then i will probably walk.
It's not like once you start paying you can't stop.. or if you don't want to pay it's not like you can't start paying again..
:S I don't see why this is such a problem.
I'm staying I have been here since launch and i'm not going anywhere anytime soon
As it stands I think I will not be paying. I'm playing once a week for a few hours, at best, so I don't think I can justify paying, especially considering my financial situation is a bit tight. I'm not sure when I will play, since I'm fairly sure I want to switch to female Roegadyn, and it's a really strange feeling for me personally/feels like a waste of time knowing I'm not playing my final character :/ I do wish SE and the community best of luck with this venture and will continue to keep a close eye on all letters and updates!
i'm staying on me boat Arrrrrrrrr!
That's why companies will always control people's life. Throw money away on a poor product instead of demanding better for the same cost. No wonder this world is so screwed up.
Going to be interesting with what's coming. (not game wise either)
I'm on the fence about it, I'll have to see what new content they add when they start charging and decide if it's really worth it.
I love how everyone screaming "we're paying for a beta" don't seem to know what a beta is. (Not counting a type of fish.)
If this was a beta of 2.0, we would be playing 2.0 content and be giving feedback on it.
What we are playing is the Prologue to 2.0. How is that different, you ask? Well a Prologue is a story or short telling of events before the main story. In other words, we are playing the events that lead up to the beginning of the new story they have set up for 2.0. This content we are engaged in right now will be unplayable in 2.0. We are participating in events that will no longer be available to everyone else who joins up at 2.0.
That is worth paying for to me. A story that leads up to the events of the newer world that nobody else past 2.0 will be able to say they were involved in.
hey guys!!!!
