First: PS3 CBT releasy at early 2013.
Second: HELL YEAH!
Everything looks nice, I like the concept screenshot they gave us in outline PDF, however it's still a whole year away as they plan to distribute the new client in september/october of 2012 :/
I just hope it wont be disappointing as this release was.
I guess we'll find out in a year
Version 2.0 Discussion
http://wdl.square-enix.com/ffxiv/dow...Outline_EN.pdf
I read through this first attachment and am just inspired by the work they are putting into this game. They have been simultaneously pushing out content for us (live) and rebuilding the game, server, UI, map, etc at the same time. I'm not sure there are many companies with that level of dedication. The server and UI have been complained about since release and just a few months after the development team took over they had a plan to fix it. You can't expect it to be easy to fix but they took the initiative nonetheless.
Version 2.0
1. A complete redesign of current repetitive maps. Each zone will be more dynamic and be UNIQUE. Unique alone gets me excited about this. No more repetitive landscapes. Granted the only zone I don't like is gridania but a good change either way.
2. The implementation of a new graphics engine. I already loved the game engine but when you look at page 7/15 it looks even better.
3. A new server system designed for increased speed and performance.
4. A fully renewed user interface
5. The expansion of in-game community content
This is just about everything people have been complaining about for the past year. I am just amazed by slide 7/15 the picture of a raid. Looks just amazing. I have so many more comments but my head is all over the place.
So the next primal wasn't Titan, but actually a Moogle XD ?? I would have never thought ...
All I can say is http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/...IVHellYeah.jpg
with the new announcement regarding subscription fee being implemented next month i was a bit disappointed since i just play this game for less than a month...
and yet after i read those pdf files that disappointed feeling was there no more in fact i over joyed and sheed tears of joy
i don't mind at all with monthly fee and hopin i can cap my level before 2.o version out
Thank you squarenix i'll be here supporting you as i always have
my tears keep rolling out as i read all those pdf's
Shut up and take my money!
It's a bit too early to be taking money really, but those changes look awesome. Shame it will take so long to get to that point though ; ; I don't play much and a monthly fee would be a waste of money to me.
Guess I'm out then.
tldr: I really don't get the part where people say "WoW Clone". They're both MMORPGs. It's not bad thing to have a similar user-friendly interface, set of communication features, or incorporate a vanity PS3 trophy system. Those aren't the mechanics or the content of the game.
Extended: It's like a JRPG, would you scream "FF clone" if:
*You had to save at designated save points unless you're in the world map.
*In combat, player party information is located in the bottom right corner of combat.
*In combat, menu of actions show up to the left of party's HP.
*Combat messages or dialogue appears at the top of the screen.
*Party is located on the right side of the screen, enemies on the left.
*Out of combat, get a comparison of stats when equipping items.
*Level up shows what stats are increasing and abilities learned.
*Can buy and sell items at a shop.
*Can pause or skip cutscenes, usually via the Start button.
*Damage is indicated in white pop-up text.
*Healing is indicated in green pop-up text.
*Any kind of victory fanfare music plays.
*Title screen with a start, load, and options.
*Change the background color and opacity of the dialogue and menu boxes.
*Adjust master volume, ambient, music, sound, voice, and event separately.
*Sound effects for moving through the menu, selecting a choice, or canceling a choice.
*The confirm and cancel buttons are usually the same, sometimes swapped between Japanese and non-Japanese layouts.
These are interface elements. To me, they don't make a game Final Fantasy, a Valkyrie Profile, a Breath of Fire, a Wild Arms, a Legend of Dragoon, or any other game that had similar interfaces. It's a familiar interface to access the content of the game. And the less time spent navigating and learning a new interface, the more time you spend getting into the game.
Tangent: Another comparison I can give is Word 95 through Word 2003, you have a similar interface for nearly ten years. Then BAM Word 2007 comes out and people are spending 10 minutes to find the Print option, the Spell Check, or no longer know how to save documents. An attempt to re-invent the interface I suppose, but that's a re-learning curve not just to find the new features of 2007~2010, but to find all the things you already used before in a new layout.
Player Add-ons: Depending on the level of UI customization SE will allow, you *may* even be able to recreate some interface layouts you know and love now or something you loved before.
To whomever is comparing this game to WoW: you have no idea what you're talking about. "Add-ons and maybe a sungeon finder?! Definitely a WoW clone." Shut the hell up. You make yourself look like an idiot.
I can't wait. This is going to be amazing.
Take my money, SE.
So get me straight like 5% of the overall team have been working on v2.0? since january?
Holy moogles! just WOW... soo excited right now, the new world looks amazing!!! And get to experiance the changing world and story once only leading up to 2.0. Sounds great!
Just like every patch, I am very pleased with the vast majority of the changes. I seriously can't wait for next year! (I am glad they will allow us to re-customize our characters when the new character creation is done)
Still, I will miss the seamless regions. I wish the technology of having seamless AND variety at the same time existed. But I guess it is just not possible because of the limitations of the PS3 and older computers? Anyway, my hope with the new areas is: I hope they are big anyway! :D
I wish the seamless regions and variety also existed but I do see the logic in doing it this way. Having the game maintain a high quality in each individual region and the cost of the seamlessness thereby making it accessible to a wider audience (by way of more accessible computer specs) isn't terrible. It's reasonable to expect someone with a decent computer to pay $50 or $60 for a game but I don't think it's reasonable to expect that person to then pay 100s of dollars upgrading their system to something that might be considered over top of the line just to get an enjoyable play quality out of the game.
So... not perfect but not unreasonable I guess.
I cannot simply wait. I would gladly fork over the necessary amount of money to go ahead and just get one of those patches today!!!! I love this company and how it has overcome such a huge adversity in just one short year. I will gladly support it till they see it as the game they originally dreamed of releasing.
Truly spectacular. I absolutely love everything about the changes coming. Sitting here reading all that info just rejuvenated all hope I've had for this game since release. The concept art is beautiful, the new UI looks promising, and man was I happy when I read about the new engine. well done Yoshida, well done. On that note, I will happily start paying my subscription fee when the time arrives. big big BIG thumbs up on this. just made my week.
even until now i kept reading and reading over and over again, is like being a kid getting his Christmas presents! :D
The interpretation of new graphics engine has me a bit concerned. I hope my happy new purchase will endure the world-altering future!
Have no problems with the subscription. Personally, I was ecstatic with 1.19. Logged in late on patch night, got so excited thinking about what to do next, that I just had to pass out. And I did.
/consolidates_inventory_across_three_characters_and_five_retainers_(not_even_six_iknowrite\?)
And I guess we'll need to compile a massload of questions for Yoshi-P on the next Live.
Q: Will we get a chance to alter our character's appearances and gender ~ exchanging our undergarments for the racial-gender equivalent.
Q: Will existing PC players be required to purchase a FFXIV 2.0 software package to continue playing?
Hi All,
There are things I like and dislike, but overall...
The list is too long, but just the Concept Art and the screenshot of the new in-game Combat against Chimera (with Kain Highwind and Yuffie Kisaragi)... Odin! the Landmarks and amazing looking World Redesign!
- Final Fantasy XIV Version 2.0 looks totally AMAZING! (^_^) :D
I'm not totally happy about having every dungeon being instanced, but with all the other changes, it sounds like an amazing New World / Game that I'd want to be a part of. :)
And this one bullet point caught my eye:
This sounds like that promise from Beta a long time ago! So we could have a Carpenter and a Miner somehow helping against the defense of Ishgard while the Disciples of War and Magic are battling.Quote:
Campaign of battles against the dragon horde in the defense of Ishgard, with participation possible as any of the four Disciplines.
Fun times! :)
All the new concept art of the world evoke a feeling of Magic, Adventure and Excitement for me. Better than anything I've seen in Final Fantasy XIII or even XII IMHO.
I can't wait!
Keep up the good work Team Yoshida! (^_^)
so the moogle's primal....is a moogle? lol I guess their god made them in his image after all lol.
few thoughts:
VERY" VERY excited about the upcoming changes.
No big deal to be charged for a game that has been given free to us anyways for a year now. Even though it's not a perfect game it has been very enjoyable.
Looks forward to seeing less trolls on these forums.
Also look forward to the server changes. hopefully this means no more lag.
I'm super excited, best news I've heard since I heard Yoshi-P took over in December. :)
I read through all posted PDF files and i wanna say...
DO WANT! I wanna be part of Final Fantasy XIV mark 2 and i'll be paying whole year till release.
I LUV YA YOSHI-P!
The only dissapointing news is that it is a year away... but it's a good thing, it won't be released too early like XIV-1 was
Apparently they had a large influx of new players and players returning for 1.19, and saw it was time to drop this hook. Well played.
OMG! Version 2.0 looks AMAZING. I loved everything about it, and I'm SO EXCITED. I'll gladly pay the monthly subcription with the curret state of the game, but after I saw the panned changes I'm defenitly sticking to this game.
Good job SE, Yoshi-P and the whole development team. THANKS! ^^
That is just superb! I'm loving everything about FFXIV Version 2.0! Good Job Yoshi, Good job Team FFXIV, Good job SE!
That was a really nice move, when people got the Game-changing Patch 1.19, you Introduced something even greater! (and caught our attention :D It was really effective!)
/thumbsup /cheer /bow /gcsalute /psych /clap /congratulations /applause /slaptrollwow
(Fun) (Excitement), Final Fantasy XIV Version 2.0 (Can I have it?) (Next Year) (Yes please)
Holy....Sh@%....This is insane, I wish this happened a year ago.
Someone clear this up for me though, distribution of 2.0 software for PC... does that mean we are going to have to buy new copies of the game?
OMG OMG OMG version 2.0 looks amazing, only SE could WOW us like that
I was wishing for so much to change with this game but didnt think they would go ahead and do that
i love the final fantasy series, i played ff11 when it first came out and enjoyed many years playing it...
Cant wait to be part of 2.0
Things i am looking forward to the most
# Auction house
# New map (not seamless)
# New graphics engine (omg)
Well done yoshi
I really love plans. + Concept image of how gameplay might look looks really great. Nice GFX update, I love that ! More FFXII,FXIII stylish :o) .... XIV
WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
isn't the world suppose to end next year?
DUN DUN DUN
As the Op. says im speechless, i always defend FFXIV in most of the stuff, but right now i dont know if ill keep playing or give it a rest for next year, yeah we'll have a new awesome game but then whats the point of playing if theres too much to be changed?
I dont say that is a bad thing i really liked all those things they are adding but right now it feels like pointless to me to keep growing my character, maybe i'll wait and play other stuff and be amazed when they finally release the new game, idk.

The entire game is essentially being remade from the ground up, and we're getting it in 12-13 months. I'm extremely impressed, I just wish we could get some of the more substantial changes sooner (jobs and content to keep us busy until then mainly). Seems like they're planning some sort of cataclysm story event to take place with meteor as an explanation for why the entire world changed.
