I personally feel that the game isn't finished, and even they said that they were only 50% there and that the game would be finished next year. I can understand they want to recover their losses but making players pay to play this unfinished version of the game is just wrong. the game isn't done and not really ready. if people want to pay for it then they can, but square is losing alot of their current fanbase, which happens to be their most dedicated obviously for even jumping into the game when it was unfinished and broken.
its sad really i like the game alot though i feel that things need to be done. i'm glad that they're taking initiative and trying to fix their mistake but honestly charging their fans that are playing the game for square's sake isn't right. we're testing the game that they are making. we really are testing the game for them. any changes they made were because of user input. this is pretty much a beta testing. maybe not literally as the game was launched and sold and everything, but the spirit of it is just that. Square has its most dedicated fans, who were willing to pay anywhere between $30-$50 to take part in a massive, long term beta test. thats essentially what this is.

I agree with the OP. The game doesnt deserve the payments yet.. The crafting is all sloppy ( or the recipes anyways) at the moment tho 1.20 should get rid of most of that. I'd like to see/play 1 or 2 new classes before deciding on paying or waiting.
It's sad SE will charge people and a game that even they say is only around 50% complete. To start charging for a beta is sad. SE is apparently not wanting to take responibility for the piss poor state this game is still in. Seems SE is now wanting to blame the players for the state of the game by charging people. Sad and bad business
