Final Fantasy XIV: Vs Reshade - A Comparison Reborn.

Great thread! I look forward to more posts. I'm a huge fan of SweetFX. After installing Heavensward my SweetFX no longer worked for me, and 5 days after EA I began getting a lot of game freezes and crashes so I removed it. I have previously attempted to use Reshade but must've have an installed it wrong or did not make proper mods to .dll files and it did not work for me. After reading all of the helpful info here I will again attempt to install and use Reshade tonight after work!

Any way to get the gorgeous visuals you're getting, Oni, without having the stars in the night sky so heavily affected?

This is really incredible, but how much it affects performance?

Depends on your system of course. But a reduction of 2 to 5 FPS might be the basic depending on the features you keep on your settings. Most demanding settings can chip 10 FPS from you. But those are settings that make the game look so cinematic that i becomes tiring and unplayable after a while, its, for "screenshots only".

Easy :). Just mess around the DoF blur intensity!. You can still have high quality DoF like i do and play just fine, i actually go out of my way to include the bokeh star porn so it's not an issue at all unless you're constantly looking up at the night sky!.

Yes even standard..although i take less of a hit i still can't play with it on. My GPU is a GTX 680. It's not the best card i'm sure if i upgrade it won't be a problem.

I only have a R9 270 myself. It's effectively a last gen's card and lags the monsters like R9 290 (or newer; haven't been keeping track) by quite a lot. I get about 30-40 fps in typical situations, dropping to 30 in heavy situations or when my card overheats due to high ambient temp in my room (air conditioning is expensive ;_; ).

I had a R9 280x and it went above 80° if not even higher when I did play before Heavensward hitted. It's common for the R9 Series and you shouldn't worry about Overheating at all. I reached 100° in Watch Dogs and it still perfomed nice (Even though I had some Micro Stutter back then)

When I turn on Heavy Effects such as HBAO+ or DoF (Bokeh) my GTX 770 goes on 80° instead of 70° with Reshade.

not really a fan of how the skyboxes in the reshaded pics looks. I much prefer the natural in-game skybox, particularly at night as it is fantastic.

I'm not too worried about card melting itself. Just about all modern CPUs and GPUs throttle their clock speed when they get too hot. They pretty much run as fast as their cooling systems would allow.

I love the color adjustments as it looks so rich but not the "blur" effects to the DoF. Is there a way to just adjust the colors? If so what do I need to DL and any other advice would be appreciated.

Oh my god, I didn't even realize those dots were the stars. Yeah, night sky totally ruined. x_x

Well you can tweak the DoF to be less blurry but DoF by nature is blurry as it focuses on the image in the center of the screen. If you don't like the colors you can always use a tonemap.

I've been pretty busy as of late so i haven't really worked on it sorry :/ i will get around to it though, and remember you can still do all this yourself :)

Using reshade my game looks so much more alive. I've been tweaking settings to get what I like, sadly DoF doesn't work all the time for me. Atm I'm working on getting a visually stunning settings that don't mess up the UI.

I just followed the steps here. https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/3970/
Make sure all previous SweetFX and Reshade files were deleted
Installed Reshade + Framework from the website.
Run Framework Mediator.exe.
In ReShade Setup click Add and find ffxiv.exe (ffxiv_dx11 if you wish to use dx11). Once added make sure that the correct Direct3D type is selected (It will default to Direct3D 9)
Then mess around with the settings. :) EffectOrdering turns the effects on and off.

Maybe, just like any graphical enhancement will. If you are worried about system stability or overheating, don't :). It will show in-game if you card can or cannot handle it!.

I get zero fps drop with this. I'm using settings from https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/3970/ while waiting Onikimaru's settings xD

GTX 680 2GB and ofc Ambient Occlusion is disabled as the card can't handle it 1080p60

There is a Option that cuts out Reshade when it comes to the UI. It's called :

The original in the OPs post, as others have said before me and I agree. Is nice for static screenshots, can see it being a bit (as in a lot) overmuch for day to day playing, for me at least.

I actually play with it on :D. I just turn off the depth of field.

@Oni, thanks for replying to my post from the other day! I really appreciate it. I was able to get SweetFX working again, and using Aluraine's settings the game looks great! :)

Oh, hey, do you get the shimmering lights all around the screen when moving? I'm using the same settings and it's kinda hurting my eyes, So I had to turn it down...

When will you release your settings? Patience is hard! XD

Been using this Reshade preset for taking screenshots, looks incredible, although I wouldn't play with it on.

Has it been confirmed that DX11 is broken? I can't find any posts about it, I get severe frame drops and hangups in DX11, I've even gotten crashes, though rarely.

I m new with Reshade, but most pictures here are awesome.
So, I have a few questions, I would appreciate it, if you can help me here:

1. Is it correct, that SquareEnix wont ban players, who do graphical enhancements using third-party-tools like Reshade?

2. Can I save many different presets or only one preset?

3. Is it possible to turn off any changes or switching back to the default graphics?

4. Which preset do you recommened?

You don't need to delete files to bounce between ReShade and the default - a toggle key can be created in the files that turns it on and off at will.

@Fevelle, I don't get any shimmering lights, however, there is a bit of a haze like effect and text seems to have a slight glow, which seems to be due to one of the brightness setting being a bit too high. At first it was noticeable, but after playing with the preset on for a while I've become quite accustomed to it and no longer notice the haziness or the glow of the text. With a few tweaks I'm sure that both issues could be completely resolved. I just haven't taken the time to tweak any settings. Neither of the negatives I mentioned are really that bad, but when switching from the normal graphics to the SweetFX preset they are noticeable.

@Caitlyn, SE have already made a statement regarding the use of Reshade/SweetFX and have stated that they it is ok to use them. You can save as many presets as you'd like however presets are saved as .txt files and you merely swap in the .txt file you'd like to use by swapping out your SweetFX_settings.txt file, with another preset file, which you would name SweetFX_settings.txt, and then just remove the existing file and replace it with the new preset you'd be using. You can press F12 to toggle SweetFX on/off. Depending on your preset, the toggle button may be another button but you can change the toggle button to a button of your choosing by modifying your SweetFX_settings.txt file. If you view the SweetFX_settings.txt file, at the bottom of all of the text you'll see where it indicates which buttons are your hotkeys. I recommend Aluraine's settings which are linked in the OP but a simple Google search for SweetFX presets will help you find a lot of different presets you can try out to see which you like best.

Just to clarify, I use SweetFX, not Reshade. I couldn't get Reshade set up and working, but I was able to get SweetFX working and as far as I'm aware both accomplish the same thing. I'm to the understanding that Reshade may have a few more options, but someone more familiar with Reshade may be able to better clarify any differences. I hope my response was helpful! :)
