I tried running in full screen mode with directx 11 and it worked for several hours then it just failed and so did my browser.
haha, well...just logged into the game, stood in sea of cloud for around 30 seconds, thennnn bang...game locked up, then kicked me back to the desktop...no idea whats going on...whether its a driver problem, or its the game having problems, or what.
Just like to add also, when early access started i played literally every day without a single crash, with the exact same setup im using now, the crashing seemed to start after the first maintenance and seemed to get worse after the 2nd maintenance, i really think this problem is on SE's end and is nothing to do with our settings, hopefully SE have seen this thread and are looking intoo it :(
I've had to run in DirectX 9 since early access when I found 11 was why I was crashing every 5 seconds.
just had 2 crashes back to back in brayflox hard...nothing seems to be fixing this, no matter what changes in settings and other programs are made, SE please get on top of this
I also am having this bug, I will try to post to the official forums
I've started getting crashing today. Had it happen earlier, then kept playing then it just happened again right now. So I try to log back in and before I can even load back into the game it crashes again. WTH SE!? It was working fine this whole time and now random crashing to desktop? >_<
There is a Geforce Hotfix driver, might want to test it out.
https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...driver-353-38/
It's non WHQL release though.
I'm not saying that the following is going to resolve the issue, but I feel it's worth mentioning.
Back when WoW launched DX11 support I was unable to play the game due to the very same driver related crashes some of you are talking about in this thread. I was positive that it had to be the DX11 client, as all other DX11 games were working without issue.
I tried different driver versions, nvidia control panel settings, game settings, etc. Nothing was working and I continued to wait for Blizzard to fix the client.
After reading the numerous threads on the topic, I started to notice a pattern: the issue was almost exclusively related to factory overclocked cards from EVGA and MSI. I was running a factory overclocked EVGA at the time, so I decided to change the clock speeds to match that of reference speeds for the board.
Crashes stopped entirely from that point on, all the way up until my next GPU upgrade. Sharing the information on the forums seemed to be fixing the issue for other players (though, not always).
To be clear, my GPU never experienced any issues related to the factory OC in any other games. Temps were well within normal ranges, no artifacting was ever present, and other games had never crashed before (specifically DX11 games).
Again, I'm not claiming that this is going to fix the issue, as we're talking about two completely different games. However, it seems to be so close to the issue I had with the DX11 client in WoW that I thought sharing my experience might help someone. It might be a long shot, but you never know.
I don't know if this will help anyone or not, but in the offchance that it might, I'd be happy :).
I also own an EVGA GTX 970 SC card.
When I got this card, my game (DX11 client, did not try the DX9 client) would also crash. Sometimes the crash would just be where the screen would flash black and the driver would stop working for a few seconds and that I had to restart the game client only, and sometimes it was a BSOD.
However, frustrated with the BSOD's, I flashed my motherboard bios (Gigabyte Z87X-D3H) to the latest version and that seemed to stop the BSOD crashes. I still experienced the driver crash once or twice after that, so I did a completely clean install of the Nvidia hotfix driver (53.38) from the WHQL 53.30 and since then I have not had a single crash. Everything has been running perfectly smooth. In fact, lately, I've been running two DX11 clients at the same time for 8-10 hours a day and have suffered no issues *knocks on wood*
My specs are:
Windows 7 Pro (64 bit)
Intel i5 4670 @ stock (non K version).
16GB G-Skill DDR3 1866 mhz ram
EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0
Some shitty 700W Cooler Master PSU
Good luck!
I played a considerable amount over the holiday. I crashed once while in FS mode. I haven't updated my BIOS yet. I read the post about turning of OC on the video card. That sounds plausible. I'll give it a shot.
Curious as to whether last night's patch has made any difference with this, specifically:
An issue when using DirectX 11 wherein the screen resolution may change to windowed mode while confirming a full screen mode resolution. (Windows)
Won't be able to play until this evening, but has anyone seen any difference so far?
EDIT: Tried it out...alt+tabs a little bit weirdly...window sometimes shrinks to a lower resolution, sometimes doesn't. Haven't had any random crashes yet, but sometimes can't recover from atl+tab =/
Looks like I'm still sticking with dx9 for now. :(
Alt+Tab seems to work the same to me. It's always thrown it into a smaller "windowed" mode when I do that. I didn't notice any changes after the update. I did notice with the last round of updates that the client doesn't error out when I /shutdown. I had one crash, but I was away from the computer when it happened.
One thing I did notice... When my client crashes, my fan on my video card stops too. I manually set my fan speed to about 50% to keep it cool. When I crash, it shuts down. I always have my temp monitoring software open, and it never hits above 60° C. Odd?
I keep having this issue where in full screen, the game may randomly freeze when I move into another zone and then recover, or it will just freeze outright and forces me to reboot since the game's full screen won't minimize even when I try to bring up the task manager.
It's always done that for me as well, but up until the latest patch, that widow would be partially off my monitor, and I wouldn't be able to resize it, or interact with it, or anything. Now, it tends to shrink to a lower resolution window by default, in the center of my screen, which I can maximize, and even use to play the game without reselecting the game / going back into full screen mode.
While I didn't have any crashes yesterday, there were a few occasions where I would alt+tab, the window would minimize, and then I wouldn't be able to get the window back. The game was still running (I could hear sound effects, and even press buttons to open menus etc), but the window was just invisible.
I spent like an hour trying to reproduce the problem, hoping to figure out if there were specific circumstances that caused it, but no luck.
So it's still not working?
Still crashing on newest drivers from amd. SE do something ffs!
I have about a 25-50% chance of the game crashing every time I teleport. This can be from zone to zone, or trying to zone in to a dungeon. This only happens in dx11. The game doesn't even load when starting it up occasionally. The delivery moogle just freezes.
When dx11 first launched, during early access, I had no issues. I did tons of dungeons leveling my DRK up. Zoned to other places all the time. Not once did it crash. This only started for me after the first "hotfix".
This happens for both my wife and I, and it is starting to get a bit ridiculous. All these "hotfixes" and you leave something like this up there that obviously is affecting quite a few people judging by this thread.
My rig:
GTX 970 FTW+ edition
AMD FX-8350
8GB DDR3 2133 RAM
My wifes rig:
GTX 770 SC
AMD FX-8120
8GB DDR3 2133 RAM
I have tried rolling back the drivers, fresh installs of both the drivers and the actual game, changing my dns server, making sure nothing is running in the background that might interfere with FFXIV, etc.
I have no ideas left. The game works fine in dx9 but why the #$@% should I have to change back to dx9? I enjoy dx11 and that is how I want to play. For the love of the 12 please fix this SE.
I really do hope that SE takes a look into this and if necessary collaborate with both the Green and Red Camp if this is indeed a driver issue for their cards.
Yeah...I'm not usually active on the official forums (see post count), but DX11 looks and runs so much better on my system...I really wish SE would at least acknowledge the existence of a problem. =/
Crashed on me 3 times today so far in about 2 hours of playing. Same for my wife only it actually froze her entire computer.
There needs to be someone from SE in this thread, acknowledging that this is an issue and that they are at least looking into it.
Adding my voice to the crowd.
DX11 Client crashing for me every other teleport/zone change. Tried with 570 GTX and a 970. Same issue with both on about 4 different driver releases dating back to last year.
DX11 Client is unplayable for me in this condition, so I've reverted back to 9.0c sadly.
I doubt it's a lack of video memory since this game isn't that graphically intensive, even with the new DX11 features. The minimum and recommended specs for video cards are pretty low key so that Square can get the game more or less even on all platforms. My problem is the hangs/freezing occurs randomly when I transition between zones and it never happens when I log into the game when I start to play.
Windowed mode seems to remove the problem completely so perhaps it's a link between DX11 and the way it uses full screen.
Nvidia have a new driver out
353.49
been using it myself, seems pretty good, only crashed once today in about 6hrs, so maybe you nvidia users could give a shot see if it clears things up for you

Make sure that you turn off GeForce Experience and Raptr, MSI Afterburner, and anything based on rivatuner before running FFXIV and see if that resolves crashing.
Also update the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Runtime https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/down....aspx?id=21576
If DX11 still crashes, and you are running "overclocked" video cards, including factor-overclocked cards, then your video cards are "defective"
I use "quotes", because they might work in other games. The other possibility is that your CPU or RAM isn't stable and it's the nVidia driver that is triggering it.
There's other possibilities, but they often suggest malware.
Still having the same issue with the latest hotfix drivers.
For what it's worth, my situation is I think a little different from others here: my game doesn't crash per se, but will occasionally randomly minimize itself (it's happened a lot on the final boss of Continuum), and can't be restored. The game continues running, but it's as though the window is invisible. As I mentioned in earlier posts, I can sometimes recreate the problem by just alt+tabbing until I can't get the window back..but other times cannot.
I believe I saw other people on the /r/ffxiv thread talking about this same issue..but from what I'm seeing here most people are totally crashing, or BSODing. Wonder if these are separate issues, or what...
Installed the update. I still get some hiccups in between zones when loading but I haven't had a total lock up yet. I'll post more updates as I go along.
