Shadow Flare needs a new effect.

so just retested myself because apparently its been to difficult for people to do themselves, swiftcast DOES in fact get eating by instant casts, this includes ruin II, miasma II and bio for summoners.

Let's run together. I'm not trying to insult at all. I've just yet to see this mainstream statement that all BLMs are beating all SMNs all the time in game post MP ruin change. Perhaps the average SMN. I'm not exactly average o.O
BLMs have beaten me before, but largely when RNG has favored them both in procs and mechanics. Consistently however, I can't even say a name of a BLM who ALWAYS beats me if we were in the same fight.

Currently, I'm fairly sure the limits of SMN are not solely the problem here, but the problem is very heavily the fact that people aren't playing the class correctly and maxing it. Also Aikaal is in my FC , so I guess I should pick on him to DPS race me in some of FCOB.

*Also lemme elaborate on the good statement. I've been on several servers and played with the top BLMS on each of them. Trust me when I say Gilgamesh isn't the only location of talent for BLMs. While I haven't exactly raced against the best here, I'm fairly sure some of the ones I found on Leviathan or Cactuar, are more or less at the same point because past that were talking about BLMs who are beating melee in single target fights and I have yet to see a BLM do that. So I think I have a fairly decent understanding of where BLMs are capping at across multiple servers after checking out other server parses and simply put, I have yet to see in the same party, them pull those numbers consistently, while I can pull my numbers consistently.

Perhaps BLMs cap out higher then SMN and to that I don't necessarily disagree with because it seems fair given the amount of RNG favor it takes to get to that point but what needs to be acknowledged here is that BLMs cannot consistently pull those numbers as well every single run. So this mainstream statement needs to die in a fire. The only credibility it has, is the fact that SMN is just an overly complex class and many of the SMNs, aren't playing it right thus giving the illusion that it cannot even touch a BLM which is not true at all.

Yeah, there are people that think all the best players are on Gilgamesh, or maybe 2 more servers, when in fact there are extraordinary players on every server. The pool is just smaller.

I'm not saying I don't believe you, I'm just saying that mathematically they /arent/ better than BLMs. I onhly swapped due to our gear being shit, I'll be the first one to try to get the god runs once my gear gets caught up. I'm just saying that its also really easy to get one person really high (not that I don't believe you're good or anyhting like that).

There's not really much depth to it,o unforunately. I already beat all the parses of dnt's summoners on mine so I didn't invest much more into it - I can see the potential though.

IIRC models show that on the average case a BLM is higher pot/sec (slightly) than SMN was. It requires however pretty much perfect firestarter usage, and obviously no movement (or predictable movement and a lucky proc).

However that was before ifrit's buff. So I dunno now.

BLM dps can vary so much its ridiculous. When the procs keep coming there is no reason a BLM can't outdps any other class.

SMNs do good DPS there is no Q about it, the issue is SMNs mp usage, AOE cap due to bane (BLMs have no cap on AOE targets) realistically SMNs max out at 5 iirc due to timers etc.

Saying that it varies so much doesn't really mean anything, we can model and simulate randomness. Obviously BLM will have a higher spread, but SMN has decent (not huge, but decent) variability depending on Fester procs.

Anyway now that school is over this is one of the things my simulator will hope to address.

When my dps can be in the 500s or close 1000 and maintained at that level due to rng it does.

The point has nothing to do with your randomness, the point is to get a baseline of comparison.

The idea is, if BLM are doing like, 90% of SMN dps, but 5% of the time they beat them due to procs, then it seems BLM are undertuned.

On the other hand, if BLM are beating SMN 90% of the time, and sometimes double their dps due to procs, then they are overtuned.

While your personal dps can vary greatly this doesn't have an impact on the balance of a class, aside from maybe they should make it less random.

any amount of passive damage is better than none. Especially if it's a long duration DOT that requires no real input from you after casting. This is why most off-GCD abilities do low damage, they add alot more damage overall than you think.
