I heard of stories of people multiboxing and blatantly botting and even bragging about it a few month back.
So maybe other people thought he was truly botting and trolling others

Giving the OP the benefit of the doubt: just report them for harassment.
While I haven't had this happen to me yet, but I keep expecting it to happen, but many years ago (I think before Wrath of the Lich King released), I decided to level up fishing on my Blood Elf Hunter. I was in the Barrens, fishing from the lake near the Wailing Caverns cave entrance. I was specifically fishing for deviate fish because it was going for a lot on Crushridge at the time. (Plus, I also wanted to level up Cooking.) While I was fishing, some random comes along, tries to block my bobber, then threatens to report me for botting if I didn't respond to them. I reported them for harassment. Now if they had asked "Hey, how long you've been here? Whatcha doin'?" I would have responded. However, I don't respond to rude tells.
Plus, at that time, there was a trend of some trolls reporting legitimate players for botting (simply to remove competition).
Stuff like that has made me a bit paranoid about stuff like the above happen, so I don't respond to tells from people that I don't know.
Sounds to me like you pissed someone off and they told people you're a bot. Then they told people, and they told people, ect. Since you stayed in the same area for hours, some people just assumed you were botting. They probably didn't even bother to investigate it or anything. It doesn't take much for people to believe the worst. Sorry this is happening and if it continues to interfere in your enjoyment of the game you might just be better off switching servers. I would try riding it out for bit first. Hopefully everyone will find something else to grab their attention.
The point is that this game has its fair share of immature players. I think instead of trying to tear down the OP's story and trying to find fault in him, maybe just understand that this probably happened to him and that it bothered him. I've only been on these forums for a few months and I've never seen to my knowledge "botters" replying and starting threads on here. But you know what I do see on these forums a lot? People bashing people for no reason other than to make it seem like they are superior. So what it didn't happen to you , it happened to the OP and the only mistake he made was thinking he was gonna get mature answers from these forums. Come on people. And OP, I'm sorry that happened to you. I have thicker skin (I work in customer service) so I know how to brush a lot of stuff off, but it still doesn't hurt any less when people assume things about you without knowing you. Remember, there are a lot of people that hide behind the anonymity of the internet.
What a bunch of idiots they are. o___o
Never seen a bot with many classes at lv50.
There always lv50 at 1 class: at gathering or Thaum/blackmage or Archer for Gil farming.
Im also very silence in dungeons. My chat window is mostly closed and im playing on busy mode to avoid not just RMT spam.
Im a gamer at 1st place - no chatter o_o
Don't worry about the people saying your story is "shady" OP. They are probably "in the closest" botters themselves. I know how trolly, jealy, and elitist this community can get.
Before calling others idiots, please engage your brain for a second. The ones you are talking about are RMT farming bots. But there are lots of real players who bot while they do something else like watching a movie. There are those who can't be bothered fate-hunting for hours or farm mobs for gil and use bots to do it. Have you ever thought about that?
Yes because believing a guys one-sided story that doesn't seem to add up while everyone's just playing Sherlocke Holme's with the tiny bit of information
given we're botters. No idea where being a Elitist comes from in any of this.

I've seen cases on other forums where hackers would post some ridiculous sob story to get people to sympathize with them till the point where it got so bad that a forum administrator had intervene to post proof of cheating - through a video. It's no wonder that a lot of people here are a little skeptical since the OP's story does not match up on some facts and they have every right to be. We don't know if he is even telling the truth. Remember, there are a lot of people that hide behind the anonymity of the internet.
All I can say is, move on. Seriously. Blacklist and move on.
Im a bot I have moods :p Joke aside I agree.
A /tell only makes sense if you expect a response. I simply blacklist and report (if in mood for a report because a lot people are not worth the effort).
As a solution idk... are you in a FC? Make friends, join linkshells, join some other partyfinders, go into Duty finder, be chatty and show yourself. If all that doesnt help and the harassment goes on server transfer is really the last solution.
And if you only join the real no-lifers that grind hunts all day you prove you are no bot.
I hope your issue gets solved soon good luck there and if need be our FC on Cerby is a very welcoming one
since when a bot talk to other ppl and put up a PF ? afaik the botter usually use 2nd character and not their main when they bot or I am behind the time with old info ?
No it doesn't, you can put on afk symbol manually via search info editing and it won't turn off automaticaly, atleast for me it worked that way, when I wanted to stay afk (because one person bothered me, not via tell but via fc chat) and I was still able to do things (not talking about trials, that would make obvious that I wasn't afk even with afk symbol). So using AFK symbol as a way to tell if person is bot or not is not 100% useful.
After reading this, I hopped onto the game decided to try out your method to see if you were right. NOPE. The moment you interact with the client in any way (such as pressing any key on the keyboard, or tilting the joystick on gamepads), the game slaps you out of "away from keyboard" and into "online" status. I'm curious as to what you're referring to. Are you sure you're not confusing the "busy" status for the "away from keyboard" status? We're not talking about someone just standing there in Mor Dhona, mind you - someone with the AFK symbol, running around the map and doing actions such as completing FATEs and gathering from nodes. Actual bots.
Come on now. Based on the wording of the OP, and his subsequent posts, its pretty obvious the thread was made for attention seeking. Not to argue an actual point. ''bashing'' you say? The OP is full of holes. It's a one 100% one-sided story that just doesn't make much sense.
It would be stranger if noone questioned it.
Yep, I don't think there's a setting in ff14 to disable the auto clear afk thing when moving.. I think WoW has it.
But in ff14, such option doesn't exist (surprise! surprise!)
So, people that are afk and moving around (not auto-run) are definitely bots.
Which makes me wonder, if the game can differentiate the two different kinds of actions, why are they having so much trouble figuring it out?
